Subject: Les Tremayne

A sincere birthday remembrance of Radio Hall of Famer Les Tremayne who was
born 100 years ago on April 16, 1913.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Les for the first time on December 12,
1973 for my Those Were The Days radio program. We chatted for a full 44
minutes about his fascinating career. We spoke for 44 minutes and you can
hear that conversation, recorded in Hollywood, anytime at
[removed] When you go there, go to "Interviews" and click on
"Les Tremayne."

Over the next thirty years we became good friends and he visited our
Chicago-based program on several occasions. Our conversation with Les
Tremayne is among more than 200 we had with the stars of the Golden Age of
Radio. All are available 24/7, along with many other features about radio's
glory days.

Is it the combination to Jack Benny's vault? I was surprised that, in two
different episodes, they used the same combination both times. I'm sure that,
if they hadn't, listeners would have complained.

Subject: Still Seeking Ford Sunday Evening Hour, January
 24, 1937

Several years ago, I wrote in search of the Ford Sunday Evening Hour of
January 24, 1937, featuring piano soloist Josef Hofmann. It still has not
turned up and is the last post-1935 American broadcast of Hofmann not to have
been found (and issued commercially on the Marston Records label). Again,
several colleagues and I would gladly pay $1000 for, as the saying goes,
information leading to the apprehension of discs of that broadcast.
Meanwhile, let me say how much I enjoy reading this email letter whenever it
shows up in my mailbox. Francis Crociata, 813-469-5570.

Subject: filmed suspense radio episode

I've just finished Stephen Youngkin's biography of Peter Lorre (The Lost One:
A Life of Peter Lorre). On p. 213-214 he notes that Roma Wine filmed the
August 30, 1945 radio broadcast for promotional purposes. This film
apparently exists -- Youngkin has apparently seen it, though he provides
little details. It's not on youtube (though that broadcast, "Nobody Loves
Me", is available on youtube with a slide show of people listening to radios
attached). Does anybody know if it's available?
