Keith Hodeshell asked which radio westerns he should feature in a program for
a local history club. As for the adult shows, Have Gun, Will [removed] Luke
Slaughter of [removed] The Six [removed] Frontier [removed] Hawk
[removed] and, of course, The Lone Ranger would be a good start. As for kids
shows, try Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Wild Bill Hickok, Red Ryder.

Subject: Re: Green Hornet & Lone Ranger

One doesn't have to wait for the reviews, let alone go to see the
movies themselves, to know that these productions are not labors of
love in the slightest, created by people who personally have
experienced and appreciate the place of these characters and stories
in the history of American popular culture. And it is not simply
because the movie people of today were unborn until twenty to forty
years ago. Much more to it than merely being a different generation.

Today's movie industry simply wants properties that can be licensed
for lots and lots of profit. Now they own it, and here comes the
loot. Hollywood always had this quality, but now it has taken over as
the dominant quality. There is no room for anything else, such as
genuine humor, talent, creativity.

Fortunately, as I did today, one can easily dip into the past via the
pleasures of the Internet and the offerings of good people, and listen
again to radio as it sounded all those years ago.

As Nero Wolfe might say, relative to most movies of today, especially
in 3D, "Pfui!"

range from favorite shows to almost anything else under the sun (sometimes
it's hard for us to stay on-topic)...but even if it isn't always focused,
it's always a good time!

For more info, contact charlie@[removed]. We hope to see you there, this
