Subject: New Air Adventures of Jimmy Allen
I am familiar with the original 1930s show, but the attempt ca. 1947 to
revitalize it is news to me. Did the series ever get picked up?
Since I never heard of it, I think I know the answer [removed]

Subject: Rochester's Last Appearence
I hope Charlie will indulge me on this one a little bit. I posted the
following on the Kine Digest, but got no response. Since there is a radio
connection, perhaps posting here will get a better response:
Lately I've been watching Jack Benny DVD's and lots of spots on YouTube. I
was looking for Rochester's (Eddie Anderson) last appearance with Jack, but
could not seem to find [removed] if I did, I did not know what I had.
Anyone out there know what Rochester's last appearance with Jack was? And
did he ever sit for a full length interview (Mike Wallace style) or shorter
spots.
Thanks,
Joe Postove

Subject: Odd Mail Call transcription
A listener to my blog sent me a curious transcription. I was wondering if
someone familiar with "Mail Call" might know a bit more about the show.
The lacquer is an odd size (something like 13" or 14") and has a
typewritten label with the name of the show and stars, but no other info.
The disc and label lead me to believe it's a "fan dub" of an AFRS
transcription, perhaps made in the 50s or 60s.
I found a listing for the "Mail Call" episode at Goldin, which I've
reproduced below.
So, my questions are a) anyone know the episode number of the show and b)
is this particular episode in common circulation among otr fans? (I
couldn't find it at [removed] or some of the other usual suspects I
check.)
65130. Mail Call. AFRS origination. The first tune is "Candy." The cast
does a condensed version of "The Princess and The Pirate." The program is
similar to "Mail Call," cat. #9623 and is possibly an assembled program.
Jane Nigh (hostess), The King Sisters, Betty Grable, Dick Haymes, Ken
Murray, Marilyn Maxwell, Bob Hope, Betty Grable, Humphrey Bogart, Bing
Crosby. 29:23. Audio condition: Very good to excellent. Complete.
Thanks.

From Those Were The Days
8/30
1951 Screen Directors' Playhouse was heard for the final time on NBC.
The program had featured some of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
8/31
1941 The Great Gildersleeve, a spin off of Fibber McGee and Molly,
started on NBC.
1946 "Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!"
Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound ... the caped crusader
returned to radio on the Mutual Broadcasting System. Superman had been
dropped from the program schedule earlier in the year, but the outrage
of youngsters brought the show back to the airwaves. Wow! The amazing
power of Kryptonite in the hands of kids! Bud Collyer, later of TV's
Beat the Clock, played Clark Kent aka Superman on the series. His
identity had been well guarded for years. Most people didn't have a clue
as to the identity of Superman until a TIME magazine article about
Collyer appeared in 1946.
9/1
1922 The first daily news program on radio was The Radio Digest, on
WBAY. The program, hosted by George F. Thompson, the program's editor,
originated from New York City.
9/2
1931 15 Minutes with Bing Crosby debuted on CBS.
9/5
1938 The NBC Red network broadcast Life Can Be Beautiful for the first
time. The program was "an inspiring message of faith drawn from life."
The program aired until 1954.

Believe someone mentioned this in the last few weeks, but I can't find it.
Other than bibliographies from various books and other publications, is there
a source (or sources)for lists of books and maybe magazine articles dealing
with OTR? Any Dunning type reference works?
I've found some unfamiliar titles in back issues of newsletters from early
groups available on the Old Time Radio Researcher's site:

Thanks to all who made this viewing possible (HINT: if you have any back
issues you could donate for them to scan, it would be appreciated!) I've
really enjoyed discovering things about the early days of OTR fandom from
these publications.
