Subject: NYOTR follow-up

Living only two towns away from Newark, there was no way I was going to miss
the NYOTR event despite the absence and non-participation of many FOTR
perennials. I had a good time visiting with friends. The highlight. as
Michael C. Gwynne has already recounted, was when the the Marilyn Monroe
impersonator Erica Smith regaled Arthur Anderson with a belated 90th birthday
salute by singing the breathy MM/JFK version of "Happy Birthday to You" and
"I Wanna Be Loved by You" replete with the "Boop-Boop-a-Doops."

Another highlight was when Listmaster Charlie Summers and I were hanging in
the hallway while a re-creation was going on. I asked Charlie "What show is
going on next door?" Mr. Summers answered "Quiet, Please." ...

... then I asked him while whispering "What show is going on next door?"

Yours in the ether and the nearby New Jersey swamp gas,

Derek Tague

Subject: Guest stars on Duffy's Tavern?

I have a question that I seriously need answered for research purposes about
the DUFFY'S TAVERN series.

It's common knowledge that Ed Gardner switched operations to Puerto Rico at
the start of the Fifties (to avoid income tax, supposedly), and that the
regular cast came to live and work there on the island where the episodes
were recorded.

But my question concerns the guest stars that appeared on the show at that
time. Did THEY have to come to Puerto Rico also, or were they piped into the
episode from New York or Hollywood? I'm trying to figure out where a
particular guest star might have been, geographically, when he did DUFFY'S in
1951.

Also, if the guests DID have to travel to Puerto Rico, I presume the
production company or the sponsor covered the cost of their transportation,
right?

Thanks to any and all who can supply an answer to this question.

Subject: Jack Benny re Fred Allen's death
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

The day after Fred Allen died, Jack Benny broadcast his personal comments,
obviously off the cuff, about the loss of his friend. It's obvious that he
was deeply shaken, and the fact that he made this special statement,
confirmed what he said - that he and Allen were old and good friends. I'm not
sure what the collectors' source is for the recording, but I have an mp3
copy. Perhaps Laura Leff can enlighten us.
