This Saturday, Those Were the Days begins its 44th year on the air by
highlighting the career of actor Tommy Cook. We'll share our 2011 conversation
with Mr. Cook (recorded at the home of his friend Terry Moore) and we'll hear
some of Tommy Cook's iconic roles, including Little Beaver on "Red Ryder,"
Baby
Alexander on "Blondie," and Junior on "The Life of Riley." We hope you'll join
us from 1 to 5 pm CST at WDCB ([removed] FM in Chicagoland, [removed]

Subject: DO WAH DIDDY

"Wanna tell ya 'bout a place called Do Wah Diddy.
It ain't no town and it ain't no City.
It's real small and real [removed] Wah Diddy."

Phil Harris -

We can only smile and imagine what and where that fabled place might be
and that's the power of real words, a grinning red face with a big toothy
smile.

In 1969 I was driving my 1936 Buick Century West on Sunset Blvd at LaBrea
one fine hot afternoon with the windows open and my elbow out the driver's
side coming to a stop in the outside lane at a red light.

Car pulled up to my left beside me and I heard a sigh and a guffaw.

I was used to expressions of admiration for that particular old ride from
my collection so it was with a gentle smile I turned to acknowledge the
admirer pulled up next to me as we waited for the green light.

Imagine my lame smile facing that big red-faced mug [removed] Harris!!!

Now that's a real car son," he said and I agreed, readying myself for a
nice conversation as we waited for what I knew to be what we call a 'coffee
and cake' light.

But, sadly it went green almost immediately as if to tell me, "That's all
ya gonna get son" and off we went.
I did note he turned around to view my beautiful chrome grill work at the
front of the car and waved bye bye.

Another sunny day in Hollywood where the stars come out not only at night.

Doooooooo Wahhhhh Diddy!!!!!!

Michael C. Gwynne
