I have a Mystic Knights of the Sea Minstrel Show labeled 36-11-04. I see that
only one episode is usually listed in catalogs and it has the date of
36-12-04 is usually given. Is this show misdated, or is it possibly a
different episode?

Subject: Radio Friendly?

QUESTION SPACE. Unless I am smitten by nostalgia, here is what you
often used to hear an announcer saying, in a most genuine, sincere
voice, at the close of a radio program in years long past: "We hope
YOU will be with us next Sunday at the same time."

Ah, ah, that all went away, did it not. I'll bet they ONCE said it
on television, but probably the closest they come to it now, here or
there, might be a mindless "see ya next time."

Those radio closes often would also THANK you for listening, too, right?

Subject: Tom Conway

Ron Sayles' note about Tom Conway, and Jim Arva's follow-up, reminded me
of my one and only memory of Tom Conway, an actor who never was in my radar
scope (unlike his more famous, younger brother).

I didn't look it up but I think it was in the mid sixties that Conway's
somewhat "unkempt" picture appeared on the front page of THE OREGONIAN, as
apparently it did in other major American newspapers. For whatever the
reason, I have always retained that image in my mind. This apparently
"forgotten" actor had been located in a run-down Venice, California hotel.
I can only imagine what happened to him after that, but he unfortunately
drew much media attention to his humiliating personal circumstances.

Subject: June SPERDVAC meeting

The next SPERDVAC meeting will be on Saturday, June 11 at the Mid-Valley
Library, 16244 Nordhoff St. (a few blocks west of the 405 freeway) in North
Hills. The guest will be singer Jerry Vale whose beautiful high-tenor voice
graced many of the most enchanting pop songs of the '50s and '60s, including
a parade of Italian-American favorites like "Innamorata (Sweetheart),"
"Volare," "Amore, Scusami," and his signature song, "Al Di La.," and his
biggest hit, "You Don't Know Me." Born in New York, Jerry began singing at
a young age eventually starting in radio on Peter Lind Hayes' CBS show and
guesting on many radio and TV variety shows including Ed Sullivan's Toast Of
The Town over the years.

The meeting begins at noon and is free and open to the public. Bring your
friends.
