Subject: Re: Quiet, Please inquiry

In response to Pamela Gitta's question, regarding the title of a
specific QP episode, I forwarded her request to OTR researcher and
former dealer, Ron Barnett, now retired in Vegas. He has an audio
copy of every show in this series and it is one of his favorites.

Jack, do you mean he has a copy of every *available* show of Quiet, Please?
If he has copies of shows not in circulation we need to talk!! QP is probably
my all time favorite OTR show.

Thanks,
Mike

Subject: Re: Fireside Chats

Robert Stout revealed that the CBS news people stood in awe of FDR's
microphone style from the very first "Chat" - he was easy and relaxed,
lighting, smoking and crushing out cigarettes as he addressed the nation. He
was acknowledged by radio people to be the equal of any professional.

The very phrase "Fireside Chat" was coined by the CBS news department
(they did the first broadcast) just before airtime. FDR was delighted, saying
that this was precisely the ambiance he wished to convey, good friends
conversing by the heathside.

     Sincerely,

     George Wagner

I'm wondering if the infamous April 20, 1947 episode of the FA show, in which
he is cut off the air for spoofing NBC, is in circulation. I've check the
usual Internet sites to no avail. Perhaps one of the clubs might have it, or
a collector out there? Perhaps a dealer?

In my opinion, Franklin Roosevelt was a master of using radio to communicate
with the people.
I have several of them and many of his speeches dubbed from an LP set issued
by the AFL-CIO.
The only other President who came over to me as being a real statesman was
John Kennedy. I don't think he used radio much, but his TV appearances and
press conferences were remarkable.
