Funny you should mention that. I was planning to work on that here shortly.
I have a number of those George Edwards Syndications that I have been
meaning to transfer and restore. Anyway, to answer your question, the 52
episode ( 15 min. serial) series of this is a dramatized adaptation of the
novel, as with the other series' of by the same producer.

Subject: RE: Gerlad Mohr as Johnny Dollar
Mike asked:
Johnny Dollar program, The Trans-Pacific Arson Matter. Johnny Dollar wasn't
played by Bob Bailey, as I would have expected, but Gerald Mohr.
This was a one time audition show from 29 August 1955. The series last
show has been broadcast 19 Sept. 1954 with John Lund as Johnny Dollar,
and the search was on for a new Johhny, as we know Mohr did not get the
part, Bob Bailey did as he would make his first appearance as Johnny
Dollar on 3 Oct 1955 in part one of The McCormack Matter the first story
in the five part series.

Not really OTR, but I believe there are some OTWM (oldtime western
movies) experts on this board, and I need your help. I recently acquired
a photo of an old western actor. Please help me identify him. Here is a
scan of his face, and his signature:

Subject: Everything's up-to-date in Kansas City
Jell-O Again!
Having been a big fan of the films of Robert Altman for some time now,
I eagerly went to an in-store appearance he made at Tower Records in NYC in
1996 to promote "Kansas City", his film about the jazz scene in 1932 Kansas
City, which co-starred Harry Belafonte. Before signing autographs, he spoke
about the latest film & took questions about his work. The inevitable question
"What are you working on next?" came up. Mr. Altman said he and Belafonte
wanted to dramatize the story of Gosden & Correll, & the A 'n' A phenomenon of
the early 1930s. He said he wanted to emphasize how some of A 'n' A's biggest
fans were, at one time, African-American. It's worth noting that Harry
Belafonte does make a couple of rederences to "Amos 'n' Andy" within the
narrative of "Kansas City"
Yours in the ether--

OTR
The syndicated technology section to my local newspaper mentions an
interesting web site today.
"[removed]" is said to feature webcasts of OTR.
A brief look-see at the website was intriguing; there are several
"stations" to listen to: one of the "stations" is called "Raw Radio"; the
description is as follows:
CURRENT FEATURE:Raw Radio featuring program pilots (Yours Truly Johnny
Dollar, Broadway is my Beat) candid recordings of Radio Rehearsal sessions
(Sam Spade, Rudy Vallee, Mercury Theater), also hear A 5 minute Pre-show
recording of Great Gildersleeve, and uncensored bloopers (by Bing Crosby,
Orson Welles and others) ,including the Classic Sealtest Variety Theater
remote from the Shamrock Hotel, that wasn't very lucky- everything that
could go wrong did.(Please note: This broadcast does contain language you
may find unsuitable for children)

Subject: Jekyll and Hyde
Re Bruce's question on Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
I'm only aware of a serial in 52 episodes produced in Australia by George
Edwards with the George Edwards players. This 15 minute serial was recorded
in the late 1930s and is readally available from OTR sites in mp3 format.
Producer George Edwards also starred in the serial and played many other
parts. he was known as "The man with a thousand voices".
This serial did not exist in Australia until these overseas copies came to
light recently. We OTR collectors in Australia can be very Thankful many of
our radio serials were exported overseas and that people interested in OTR
preserved these transcriptions hense many more Australian shows have
survived today.
In Australia only about 25 percent of transcriptions produced in the 1930s
to 60s exist today. Most were dumpt down old mine sharfts when country
radio stations had regular clean outs or many were sold to the board of
works who used them as road fill. And I cant tell you how often when
speaking to former radio station announcers or engineers how many times I
heard the story of them witnessing truck loads of transcription discs being
taken to the tip. Groan Groan!!

Subject: TV to Radio
Ron Sayles raises the interesting question of what radio shows began on
TV. There were several in the 1950s that eventually produced either
identical or entirely separate radio adaptations. Besides the most
obvious ones such as Have Gun, Will Travel and My Little Margie, I can
think of Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour (which began on radio with
Major Edward Bowes, left the air, made a comeback on TV, then added a
radio broadcast), Hopalong Cassidy, What's My Line?, Tom Corbett Space
Cadet and The $64,000 Question. All of this is detailed in my newest
volume, "Say Goodnight, Gracie," on pages 123-125.
