Subject: Christmas , Film, OTR
I received "Lady in the Lake" from Netflix during Christmas week, a
coincidence, as I didn't know it was set around Christmas. Part of one
scene includes a radio playing the end of "A Christmas Carol." Wonder if
it was a real transcription or just someone reading the lines for the movie?
BTW, it was an interesting (and unusual) approach to a mystery film.

Subject: Cleaning ETs
Hi, Joe.
The white substance is usually referred to as palmitic acid and it
often forms on the various kinds of "instananeous" ([removed], not
commercially pressed) records and transcriptions. It's easy to clean,
all you need is a little Windex and a soft toothbrush. Spray the
surface with a few squirts of Windex. Then, gently brush the entire
surface (following the groove direction) with the toothbrush and wipe
dry. I always finish with a distilled-water rinse (I spray distilled
water over the surface, then wipe dry with a clean cloth or towel).
If the surface is still dirty, repeat the process using a mixture of
regular dish washing detergent and water (I use regular blue "Dawn"
-- 5% Dawn and 95% water). Of course, it goes without saying that you
should be extra careful around the cracks where the lacquer is
flaking off!
As a side note, Windex is generally safe for cleaning instantaneous
transcriptions, but don't ever use Windex for cleaning commercial
shellac 78s! (Instead, use the the detergent and water mixture for
78s.)
Good luck!

Subject: Tales from Ivory Towers
I'm wondering if there are any episodes of "Tales from Ivory Towers" in
circulation. It is listed in the Goldin index, but I haven't found any
anywhere. It's a 15 minute children's program which adapted some 1930s
and 40s children's books, and was sponsored by the American Dental
Association. Anyone know if any of these are actually available?

I really hope someone write a book on her sometime. And Frank Nelson. And
Iris Adrian. And many of the other supporting players that have been
overlooked so long. I'd publish them! At least there Is someone doing a
Parley Baer book now.
