Dear David-

I can't speak to that; but I do know that Bill Nadel directed a
recreation/tribute at last year's FOTR that was well received.

A DVD of same may yet be available from lister Fred Berney.

David Rogers in issue #71 asked

Does anyone know if the BBC plan to (re) record any other Paul Temple
shows or in fact any other old shows?

Do you know of the other Paul Temple shows in circulation David? Gilbert
Case, Alex Affair, Geneva Mystery , Conrad Case, Jonathan Mystery, Lawrence
Affair, Paul Temple Intervenes, Madison Case, Sullivan Mystery. Those are
just the ones I could reach easily. Paul Temple has a lot of followers.

I didn't know until recently that ABC in Australia did a production of Paul
Temple and The Front Page Men as a half hour 8 parter in 1940 and Paul
Temple Intervenes in 1944.

David Rogers asked about the 'Paul Temple' BBC broadcasts.
This story is about radio here as well as in England. Well, so far as the
shortsightedness in disposing of many radio transcriptions. The Paul Temple
stories were multi-episode ones and for a number of years there have been
about 8 stories. 40+ episodes, hrough file-sharing. I have those eight and
enjoyed them very much. The program was on the air for over 30 years I think
the dates are: 1936-1968. It was said that the BBC had tossed most of them.

Given their popularity both here and in the UK the BBC soon realized that
they had thrown out a good cash cow. I also have heard the recently produced
'Sullivan Affair', which is a dramatization. The BBC has also released a
reading by Anthony Head of a Paul Temple script, The Kelby Affair. Both of
these are available through [removed] I suspect they are burrowing
through the cellar to find more.

I second Ron Sayles well-deserved accolades for Jim's latest book. Having
helped in a very small way from time-to-time on some of Jim's research, I
know that he will not go with anything until it can be documented. I
continue to be amazed at his output. Of course, he's already working on a
new book. I get tired just thinking about it.
Bravo, Jim

Subject: Super, man.

One of the comic books showed ol' Kal-el (his real name) taking his Clark
Kent suit, folding it into a little packet, and compressing it into the size
of a Long Island Railroad ticket with one clap of his super hands. It was
explained that the clothes were made of a special resiliant fiber that could
be uncompressed at the appropriate time.

This would have been in a comic from perhaps 1960, and it is of some
interest from the standpoint of anyone who teaches science because it shows
the sort of interest in science that kids had in those days. I think it's
significant that they felt comfortable mentioning this rather arcane level
of technology to a generation of thirteen-year-olds, an age group not
normally known for its interest in advances in fiber science.

Is it possible that our generation--born in the late '40's--was the last to
take a real interest in such things? I have noticed references to industry
in old radio shows that have a similar level of detail, things that would
interest an average person with a healthy interest in science and
engineering. Somewhere along the line, science fiction took a turn to
fantasy, where you merely need magic crystals and spells to do amazing
things. But the writers of Superman, and many of the old shows and comics,
apparently knew that they were dealing with a more
technologically-sophisticated crowd, people who could run a steel mill or
design an airliner.

This is the sort of thing you think about after you've just spent the
morning judging a science fair.

Subject: Burns and Allen Logs

I have a lot of B&A episodes and I really like their the a lot. I have
about 100 episodes and I have 10 that I cannot find a date of the
broadcast, and some I have used detective work to date, maybe.
I have been through the logs published by OTR Radio Researchers, Jerry
Haendiges logs, Audio Classic Archives and Radio Golden Index. and I
found out that 3 out 4 have about the same episodes date and one has
only a few (8 or 9).
what is amazing to me is that most of the situation comedies that have
a long history of 15 or 20 years seem to have close to complete logs,
but Burns and Allen have very few considering they were on the for over
600 episodes.
Bob Hope show are also hard to find date too.

I am I missing a more complete log of B & A ? Maybe someone knows the
date from a description of the following episode.
I think all are from the 1940's

Thank for any help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Blore was the quintessential Hollywood butler, best known for his
appearance in the Astaire & Rogers musicals such as "The Gay

including Preston Sturges' "Sullivan's Travels," "Love Happy" with
the Marx Brothers, and "Fancy Pants" with Bob Hope.

the webmaster figured it was so obvious and well known it didn't need
