Not to beat "the horse", but in a New York Times 1972 obit of
George Trendle, it is specifically mentioned that they identified
the Lone Ranger, as Dan Reid, one of six Texas Rangers.
That's typical of the kind of mistakes that get into obits. Captain
Dan Reid was the leader of the six Texas Rangers and the LR's older
brother.

it to the Times's sloppy reporting to fail to check that Dan Reid was the
Lone Ranger's brother.

I am amazed at all of the responses from OTR fans concerning their MP3
players. I never imagined ...
ME? Every morning when I wake up I have about the same old routine ... get
ready for work, go into the "office" of our home and check the local
newspaper online and then I check [removed]
They have one item for sale each day and a few times each month they have an
MP3 player of some sort. Which one did I get? The Rio Carbon 5gB (there is
now a 6gB) and paid about $75 for it. It holds about 1000 shows (depending
upon the size of the show, of course) and I can easily connect it to myy
computer and transfer programs back and forth. I can even creat a playlist.
I think it pretty flexible.
Being that I am a computer programmer it has the added function of looking
like a small harddrive to the computer so that I can trasfer other things
from the computer ... transport home ... and work on, say, reports,
spreadsheets, etc. Pretty convenient for me. A whole lot of player and I
didn't have to pay retail for it. Was it a factory refurb? Probably. Do I
care? No. It came with full mfg warranty and had never given me any
trouble (knock on wood).

"diplomatically done". it concerns suspicions that foreigners from a

britt - "but the police can't do a thing; neither can the federal
government."
kato - "why is that?"
britt - "diplomatic relations, kato. and the diplomatic immunity of
everyone connected with the consulate of any foreign county."
kato - "a case of red tape, eh, mr. britt?"

2/15
1932 - George Burns and Gracie Allen debuted as regulars on The Guy
Lombardo Show on CBS.
The point that really ought to be made here is that this was, literally, the
start of something far bigger. To wit:
Burns and Allen first made it to radio as comedy relief for bandleader Guy
Lombardo whose Robert Burns Panatella Program had been running on CBS since
the network was organized in 1927. The droll duo joined the show in early
1932. Parenthetically, not long afterward Burns and Allen went to the West
Coast to shoot a movie. Their radio contract required them to bear the
sizeable cost of maintaining telephone lines carrying their voices across
the nation, allowing them to continue to perform "live" on the show. "We
lost $200 a week every week we were on the radio," said Burns. "The phone
call was that much more than what we were getting."
On the other hand, at least a segment of listeners who were addicted to "the
sweetest music this side of heaven" balked, finding the interruption for a
few laughs not to their tastes. Burns reported in his memoir, The Third
Time Around, a college fraternity basing weekly dance parties around
Lombardo's ethereal gigs expressed strong disapproval with the sudden
adjustment in format. No matter, the show's ratings more than doubled in a
single year after Burns and Allen came aboard, to the extent that the
sponsor retained them but-in 1933-dumped Lombardo, his brothers and the
remainder of his entourage. Burns and Allen were the new headliners; the
greatly reduced music that persisted from then on played only second fiddle
to the comic sketches that had been a mainstay of the couple's earlier
vaudeville careers.

I doubt that the seance was on the radio. I have a recording of the 38-10-31
Houdini Seance. It is 26 minutes long with a detailed 6 minute modern
introduction describing all details of the seance. The introduction does not
describe any radio broadcast. The seance recording itself does not have any
type indication that it was on the radio. I checked the NYT radio listings
for that date and found nothing about Houdini. There was a presidential
speech that date.
