Subject: Ted Donaldson
I'm attempting to track what became of Ted Donaldson who
played Bud Anderson in the radio rendition of Father Knows
Best (1949-54). He earned significant credits in 19 films
(1944-52) and on Broadway as early as 1941. Born in New
York to a couple of prominent musicians on August 20, 1933,
after Father Knows Best left radio he retired from show
business. While he appeared with a couple of stage
productions in the 1960s, and reportedly had employment in
the late 1970s unrelated to entertainment, little else has
surfaced. Please contact me directly if you know what
became of him in the years following 1954 to the present.
Thanks.

Subject: Old Time Radio CD's in store
Walgreens is selling oldtime radio CD's for a $1. The ones I have seen
have 2 shows on a CD. These CD's play on regular CD players.
Among the shows available are Amos N' Andy, Father Knows Best, Great
Gildersleeve, Fibber McGee and Molly, Dimension X.
Have no connection with [removed] wanted OTR fans to know these
shows are available at such a reasonable price.

Subject: Bob Hope in Ohio
I was listening to a Bob Hope show and want to know it's broadcast
date. The show was from Cleveland, with lots of local and Ohio
references. He mentions the Ohio Sesquicentennial Which would have
been 1953 , he also makes references to "the Lost Weekend" and [removed]
Fields which would place it in the late 40's.
Well, I was in first grade at Coventry School in 1953, and we had to learn
how to spell--or at least pronounce-- 'sesquicentennial.' I would vote for
1953.
M Kinsler
an early reader, but still.

Keith Houdeshell asked about the broadcast date for Bob Hope's Cleveland
Sesquicentennial show.
My personal log shows the date of this broadcast to be March 19, 1946.
Should this prove to be wrong, I am prepared to deny under oath that I ever
wrote this.

I have a Sterling Silver tray that was presented to Lanny Ross by General

if there is a museum or society that would be interested in purchasing this

Subject: RE: Jack Webb (and Julie London)
No one has mentioned that Jack was once married to singer Julie London, a
she could "Cry Me A River"' any time, and a very, very attractive woman and
with a sexy voice.
Many years ago, there was an article in TV-Guide with a quote from Ms.
London; this was after her marriage to Webb had ended, and his show (probably
"Dragnet") was cancelled. She said something to the effect that "I wouldn't
want to wish Jack anything bad, but any divorced woman would know how I
feel." I don't know precisely what she meant, but it looked to me as though
she wasn't exactly wishing him well. I found it interesting that later, as
her career as a torch/lounge singer was waning, and she was remarried to
Bobby Troup (writer of "Route 66"), Webb hired them both for his new show,
"Emergency."
Thanx,
B. Ray

Subject: Cancellation of Classic Radio on WFUV
I guess The Golden Age of Radio is the only game left in town here in NYC.
I was listening to the regular Sunday midnight Classic Radio show on WFUV,
which is a Public Radio station run by Fordham University,
and they announced at the end that it was the last program of the series.
Here is the response I got from WFUV's Program Director.
Anybody else want to do a show? Maybe there's an opening!
- Thanks for your note. Adrian Cosentini, the producer, has done a good job
over the years. We felt the show had run its course, since Adrian has
only so many shows at his access. Over the years we've received a lot of
complaints about reruns and such.
WFUV is also a music-focused station, so that was another factor.
Best wishes,
Chuck Singleton
Program Director

Subject: Fibber's laundry
Matthew Bullis wondered about the episode where Fibber's laundry comes
back. This is one of my all-time favorites. You said, "I don't know why
the audience laughed at the jokes." I'm not sure which one you mean, if
it's just the basis of the show or what? It's a pretty good example of a
WW2-era "Fibber McGee and Molly" in that the McGees are not only surprised
by a war-time era laundry service returning all their clothes, but also the
fact that war-time Americans, suddenly with more money in their pockets,
were jamming nightclubs in record numbers. The McGees want to go to a
restaurant, only to find it's impossible to get [removed] and when they
can, discover the shortages take most good things off the menu. Finally,
they're tipped off to a good location to host their [removed] and it's
their own home.
I don't know if that helps. I remember hearing that episode for the first
time on WCAU-AM out of Philadelphia back in the early 80s and the writing
and visualizations were so strong, I could almost see the steam coming off
the McGees' coffee.

Obituaries I have read for operatic soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf such as this
one [removed]
state that she was the aunt of General H. Norman Schwarzkopf of Operation:
Desert Storm fame. Of course, Norman's father was also named H. Norman
Schwarzkopf,
one-time head of the New Jersey State Police (who led the investifation into
the Lindbergh baby kidnapping in the 1930s) and sometimes host of
"Gangbusters."
So just what is the relationship between Mme. Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf-fils?.
Would this mean that Elisabeth and Schwarzkopf-pere were siblings and that he
might have been born in Germany or Austria?
Speaking of opera, here's something from "Duffy's Tavern."
The Mad Russian: Say, bossy, you're writing an opera? I have the perfect title
for it -- "The Barber of Seville>"
Archie, the Manager: "Barber of Seville?"... Jascha, that's already been
wrote.
The Mad Russian: A city the size of Seville, there's only one barber?!
That's my all-time favourite joke.

Derek Tague

much better unit with a nice tone and loud volume if necessary.
Thanks for the info and tips on using it Don. I think I will try to upgrade
my Durabrand MP3 radio if possible and use the old one as a backup. At the
rate I listen to OTR my old one may wear out soon.
