Subject: My new boombox
I have a bunch of CDs with MP3 files of OTR on them, and things
are a little different from a few years ago when it was hard to
find an MP3 CD player that would handle the low rates that these
shows are usually recorded in.
I just got an RCA model RCD159 which handles my MP3 CDs (I did
have one that I have to check out on the computer because it
came up with a NO DISK error on this player), and it only cost
about $50, including shipping and tax.
It also has a LINE IN port to plug my MP3 player into.
So far, I'm quite happy. The only drawback I can see right now
is that the file ID information does not display, only the track/
file number. It will do for right now.
I would be interested in hearing about other CD/MP3 boomboxes,
however, you should probably mail my address, since this may be
only marginally on-topic.
Thanks,
-- Tom

Speaking of Ed Wynn, why are decent copies of the Texaco Fire Chief
(1932-35) so hard to find?

Subject: HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES V DISC
Just spoke with Soupy Sales and he affirmed that he had that disc for many
years until someone stole it from him while he was in Detroit in the mid 50's
I also learned that he was in charge of entertainment over the Intercom
while aboard ship in the navy and that he got the idea for the howl and
growl of
White Fang from that recording.
You can read more if you can manage to find the book SOUPY SEZ.
I think that's the title of the book.
[removed] might be of assistance too.
Soupy sez HI to all in the OTR Digest.

Subject: Hindenburg coverage
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Herb Morrison
was covering the Hindenburg landing at least partly as
a promotional tool for American Airlines, which at the
time was boasting that it had great connections with
the dirigible. Unfortunately I don't remember where I
saw this. Can someone either confirm that I'm right or
that my marbles have gone missing?

Mike Ogden asked:
I wonder what state and town Freddy was living in when he heard this series.
I'm told he was growing up in Steubenville, OH when this was on. Thanks for
your help so far!

If you can demonstrate that there are no copyrights on the materials -- and
they often can tell you if this is the case -- you can also get copies made.
I have a question.
Do you think we will ever get to a stage where all things are available unless
a library can prove that a copyright holder exists? This would shift the onus
as to who has to prove something. We would move from the situation now where
"everything is protected unless you can prove there is no owner" to a
situation where "things are free unless you can prove there is an owner."
My question comes from seeing pulp stories being made available on the
Internet where there is often a comment to the efftect that after
investigation no copyright holder was found to exist. Maybe there is a
copyright holder but they are not currently staking there claim.
Love, David
