A weekly [removed]
For the best in OTR Chat, join IRC (Internet Relay Chat), StarLink-IRC
Network, the channel name is #OldRadio. We meet Thursdays at 8 PM Eastern
and go on, and on! The oldest OTR Chat Channel, it has been in existence
over nine years, same time, same channel! Started by Lois Culver, widow
of actor Howard Culver, this is the place to be on Thursday night for
real-time OTR talk!
Our "regulars" include OTR actors, soundmen, collectors, listeners, and
others interested in enjoying OTR from points all over the world. Discussions
range from favorite shows to almost anything else under the sun (sometimes
it's hard for us to stay on-topic)...but even if it isn't always focused,
it's always a good time!
For more info, contact charlie@[removed]. We hope to see you there, this
week and every week!

It appears that there wasn't time to redo the 5/2/1949 episode of Fibber
McGee & Mollly ("Do a Good Turn McGee), bec ause the version released to the
airwaves has Wilcox c oughing and hacking and trying to speak, and finally
saying something like "I can't talk! Music!". Remarkable for a transcribed
program!

At [removed], there are eight Sky King programs of varying quality, but the
first one is in fine shape, with several opportunities to hear Mike Wallace,
including the ABC network cue at the end. One can imagine he had great fun
declaiming "SKY KING!"

Subject: Those Were the Days' 42nd anniversary show
Hello out there in Radioland!
This week, "Those Were the Days"--the old-time radio showcase launched by
Radio Hall of Famer Chuck Schaden in 1970 (and hosted by yours truly since
2009)--will celebrate its 42nd anniversary by taking a trip through the
Golden Age of Radio, five years at a time. We'll go back 80 years for a 1932
"Redbook Magazine Drama" and travel back 50 years for a 1962 tale of
"Suspense." In between, we'll travel to 1937 for a groundbreaking productioon
from "The Columbia Workshop," visit the World War II homefront with a 1942
episode of "Clara, Lu and Em," join Bing Crosby in 1947, as he breaks the
networks' taboo on pre-recorded radio with "Philco Radio Time," watch the
birth of the "adult Western" in 1952 with the very first episode of
"Gunsmoke," and tune into a story of the future on a 1957 "X Minus One." It's
a chance to take in the totality of the Golden Age of Radio in a mere four
hours, and we hope you'll join our celebration this Saturday from 1 to 5
pm CST at [removed].
Thanks for listening.

A few weeks ago I listened to an episode of a show I don't remember - Suspense
or Sherlock Holmes, maybe - about a British train that disappeared between two
stops on the line. Last night I listened to an episode of Boston Blackie with
the exact same plot. And I was wondering if this was a common occurrence. I
know that Suspense and Escape used the same scripts, and some of the science
fiction shows, but Boston Blackie? ---Dan Hughes, [removed]
