One of the most popular songs to be played was "Happy Birthday to You";
which was performed in many different languages just to get past the ban.
The original song is now, in fact, a copyrighted piece of music, though it
wasn't at the time.

It isn't any more. See [removed]

1943 The quiz show, The Better Half, was first heard on Mutual this
day. The program brought four married couples to compete in stunts

Lovejoy, debuted on ABC.

1906 - Hugh Gernsback of the Electro Importing Company advertised radio
receivers for sale for the low, low price of just $[removed] ($203 in 2016
dollars) in "Scientific American" magazine. The first ad selling the
gizmos guaranteed reception of about one mile.

1910 - Enrico Caruso and Emmy Destinn were heard via a telephone
transmitter; rigged by DeForest Radio-Telephone Company to broadcast
from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.

Subject:  The Broadcast (2015) movie

I saw a movie via Amazon Prime the other night titled The Broadcast. It uses
the 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast as a story device. The broadcast runs in
pieces throughout the movie as the main character experiences trials and
tribulations. There are some fairy gruesome events in it so if that is not to
your taste you may want to steer clear. But if you are curious how a modern
film maker pays tribute to the famous broadcast then this may be worth a look.

Subject:  New Year's OTR Resolutions

Folks;

   A few New Year's Resolutions I'd like to make that concern OTR and the
Digest:

   1) Post SummersTime archived episodes to the podcast at
[removed] - this past year I have been _terrible_ at posting
older episodes.

   2) Get more OTR-related audio and video posted to the pCloud-based OTR
Digest Shared Folder. And as a side-note, if you have anything you want to
share with the entire class, I can set up an upload folder which will allow
you to send files through any web browser directly to my personal pCloud
account so I can add the files to the shared folder.

   3) Finally get the &*)^#!!! server to stop hanging, requiring my
intervention. Some specific spam emails will shut down the server instead of
simply being rejected, and I gotta fix that.

         Charlie (who will probably think of more later)
