While listening to Fibber and Molly last night, I noticed something I had
never thought of before. It was not the Fibber McGee & Molly show brought to
you by Johnson's wax. It was the Johnson's wax program, w/Fibber McGee &
Molly.
My question is, how much influence on any particular show did the sponsor
have as far as content went? Also, I heard Molly make a statement that I
don't
understand. I don't recall what happened, but, Fibber had made a comment,
obviously wrong, and Molly said, I have a TL for you deary. What does TL
mean? I
have wracked my brain trying to come up with an answer that makes sense, but
have drawn a blank every time.

Group,

Regarding:

Wasn't Skitch Henderson the band leader for "The
Tonight Show" at one time?

I believe, and this is a looooong time ago, that Skitch Henderson was the
bandleader when Steve Allen was hosting NBC's late night talk/variety show.
I'm thinking that this was in the mid 1950's.

The best to you all,

Don Skuce

Just an aside:

XM Satellite Radio started its new XM Public Radio channel (133) at
midnight today. The rebroadcast of Leonard Lopate had, as his guests, Mickey
and Jan promoting their musical revue running in New York.

There was nothing in the interview about radio, but I was impressed with
the coincidence. You can listen to the show at the WNYC website at:

Subject: MP3 Boomboxes

Do any of you have recommendations for a boombox
that plays mp3 CDs? I have a Sony boombox that I
bought a couple of years ago, and it works quite
well,
but it doesn't have true resume.

A cousin is planning to buy one to play her CDs
and
she's asked me to help her in choosing the unit.

"kclarke5@[removed]" <kclarke5@[removed]; asked:

Wasn't Skitch Henderson the band leader for "The
Tonight Show" at one time? That show has had many
bands and band leaders over the many years it's been
on the air. If he was one of their band leaders, it
must have been back in the 1960's (pre-Doc Sevrinsen).
Could someone out there clarify this for me?

will answer most of your questions re Skitch
Henderson.

I remember seeing SH as a dapper young NBC staff
orchestra member who played piano for that group as we
both found ourselves wandering down the main hall
behind the the studios at the NBC building complex at
Sunset and Vine street in Hollywood, California. I
was first impressed by his Hollywood leading man
good looks and thought what a combination, his also
being a talented piano player as well. Well, Skitch
didn't follow up to that end, World War II rearing its
ugly head. He further impressed me by joining up with
the Army and I'd later see him visiting on leave in
those same halls in the uniform of an Aviation Cadet
trainee where he gained my respect and envy being
able to fly for the USAAF, as it was called in those
days. Subsequently he returned several times
more, in his officer's uniform, with wings, and later
decorative ribbons. In his later career he kept
up his flying skills owning and flying his own
aircraft I believe as I saw him in a video at the
controls of a Cessna model ostensibly flying to one of
his musical engagements.
