Just had a great idea for finding lost program. With all the fine minds on
this list, if one of us could build a time machine and then go back and
record the lost shows.
Guess I've been watching too many "7 Days" and "Time Tunnel Shows".
Fred, building a time machine is way too complicated. All you have to do is
visit any large city, find a cluttered, musty old curio shop run by an
eccentric old geezer and his wife, and buy the antique radio that receives
broadcasts from the past. Happens all the time on tv!

Subject: Firefighters
Hi, all. I recently came across a series that I
know nothing about. It's called "Firefighters". It's not mentioned in John
Dunning's book, and Vintage Radio Logs only says that it's probably from the
late 40's. Does anyone have any more information about this series?
Thanks for your help.

Subject: RE: Hoarding
Ted Davenport writes
We don't hoard them to keep them away from people, it is just the agreement
we had to make to get them.
Being an amateur collector interested only in listening, I am not that
familiar with the ins and outs of dealer economics. The discussion about
holding back expensive material until there are enough buyers to recover
cost was very informative. But there must also be lots of stuff out there
that was found in an attic or bought at an estate sale for $5, that is
hoarded just the same. Is there some general reason why people with
exclusive material will give copies to select individuals, but not want them
circulated? Anybody who is now rolling their eyes thinking this is a stupid
question with an obvious answer, that's the person I would like to hear
from, because I don't get it.

Subject: Got My Lunchbox
Hi listers.
When my wife, my daughter and I were at the grocery store doing our
shopping, my wife spotted something in the cerial isle that I had been
looking for. It was two boxes of Cheerios joined together with the small
Lone Ranger lunchbox in the middle. Sure am glad I found it.

Subject: a little OTR quiz
Over on the classical pianists list we have been quizzing each other
recently. Here is one that I would like to share with this group since it
involves an OTR personality that all of you will know, but I bet you didn't
know about his lineage.
Who was the Hollywood actor who was descended from Felix Mendelssohn, the
19th century composer?
Joe Salerno

Subject: Question Asked
Fred Berney writes:
Ted Davenport talked about people that will trade a show as long as it goes
no further. Ted, why would someone want a show kept uncirculated?
I am sure thay the circimstances vary. One of the common reasons is if a
collector with a medium or small collection finds some new material, they
want the "biggest bang for their buck". They will offer it to the large
collectors with the stipulation that it cannot be traded. This way, they can
make a trade with all of the large collectors. They might have lifted the
recordings from somewhere they shouldn't have and don't want to get caught.
I really don't know the reasons because I have never asked. I only honor
whatever restrictions are placed on the material when I get it.
