I've been reading about Mike Wallace as announcer, but no one yet has
mentioned him as Star. "The Crime Files of Flamond" was a crime drama mainly
broadcast on Mutual between 1953 and 1957, starring Everett Clark as Flamond.
I have one episode from May 3, 1948 starring Myron Wallace as Flamond,
sponsored by Brach's candy, also on Mutual. I don't have any other
information about Mike's run on the show.

I came across a reference to a newly published volume, "Doc Savage: The
Lost Radio Scripts of Lester Dent". Has anybody seen this? Is it worth
getting? Is it really a collection of radio scripts? It's quite
affordably priced (about $18--there's a special limited edition for
$50).

oh, you're remembering correctly, all right-- this was from the 4/23/39
show. i particularly love twinkle's entrance line: "Hello, Mr. Benny.
Are we ready for our daily tussle with Father Time?"
THAT'S IT!!! I'm glad I wasn't going crazy. You're right about the line
you quoted, too. I remembered it as soon as I read it, and it's a great
line.
Thanks also to Laura Leff for the information on Ed Beloin, who played
that character.
Also in #242, Stuart Lubin wrote:
I really cannot see the relationship between a man having a high-pitched
voice, and homosexuality. I think there is no relationship.
Stuart raises a good point, and perhaps I should have been more clear.
In my discussion, at least, I was referring to the characteristics of
the radio stock character homosexual or "sissy" character, not real
world people. I feel that this is analogous to ethnic stock characters
and others.

Subject: A question on boombox radios
The recent question about boombox radios reminded me of something.
I keep a small radio of that style by my bed for listening to OTR at
night. It only plays cassettes. (I have a wireless speaker there that
gets the signal from my PC down the hall for CDs, mp3, etc, but that's
another story).
The tape deck has just about given up the ghost, and I'd like to replace
the radio with one that also does mp3 CDs. However, after searching my
local stores, I've discovered that every radio of this style with a tape
deck only plays standard CDs. Every one that plays mp3 CDs doesn't have
a tape deck.
Can anyone recommend a good, small boombox-style radio that plays
cassettes AND mp3 on CD?
thanks,

I recently got hold of one episode of a series called Operation Danger from
CBS c1950.
Its a Cold War spy series. Does anyone know how many episodes survive and
are in circulation ? The episode I have is about Nazis and smuggling diamonds
in Post-War Europe. Reply off list if you have any episodes and would be
interested in a trade of some sort. Thanks !

Subject: The Death Of Little Kathy Fiscus
Thanks to Laurie Platt for mentioning the ordeal of Kathy Fiscus in OTR
Digest 243. I was around 16 at the time that happened in April 1949 and do
remember it very well. It was also mentioned a lot on radio, however I don't
know if there is anything available that was recorded. There was a song that
was written and recorded by Jimmy Osborne that was played quite frequently
after that event. It was called The Death Of Little Kathy Fiscus.
There is a web site where you can read more and listen to Jimmy Osborne
sing the song he wrote about this 1949 tragedy. The web site is Gary's

Click on the photo of Kathy and also listen to Jimmy's song.
Also thanks to Jim Cox for confirming that Myron (Mike) Wallace did do the
commercials on the Sky King radio program. Nice to know that I haven't lost
it -- yet :-)
