Subject: Tony's book request

Regarding Tony Baechler's posting:

While I found Jack's "PRIVATE EYELASHES" book wonderful, the name was
mispronounced by the NLS narrator. That was not a mis-spelling. If one is
blind and relying on a third party to read a book to them, even from a
computer, they should not judge errors as mis-spellings (hence the author's
fault). There is no reliable way of making a book read accurately, without
some mistake occurring somewhere. In short, there is no flawless system.

Regarding donating electronic copies of books to Bookshare, in this day and
age where the internet and electronics has advanced, acquiring and copying
said books is only made easier by Bookshare, which is why some authors
hesitate.

I purchased a book from McFarland that set me back $[removed] and I found a few
errors. Rather than go on the internet and cite the errors and blame it on
the author, I intend to make the corrections myself in my book, and be
content with that I have. it was worth the $95, even with a few errors, but
as detailed as it was, I cannot see myself criticing the publisher or author
for overlooking two small details on a book over 1,000 pages thick.

X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

Earlier this month on Jeopardy, there was an audio clue on Jeopardy in which
they played a clip from the radio show 'Information Please'. The clue was
something like 'This radio show was later made into an encyclopedia.' I'm
proud to say that I got the question right.

(That's the title of a famous old DC comics "Justice League of America"
story)

From: "Irene Theodore Heinstein" (IreneTH@[removed])

I think too much has been made of Carl Reiner's comment and the comments
are
beginning to make me uncomfortable ... I sure hope the name-trading stops."

Irene, I immensely enjoyed your personal essay. I can only say, for my part,
there wasn't the slightest tinge of either Anti-Semitism OR Semitism
in my post, or in how I viewed other's posts!

The topic just interests me informationally; as I mentioned, I've been
talking about such
thing since my NYU days, with comedian friend Wayne Fedderman.

As with most ethnic groups
Greek-Americans were always looking for 'successful' or well-known Greeks.
Once identified the word spread fast.

On a Human level, I totally understand that. But, as a child of those same
'60's when
the UN-themed Justice League story mentioned above was published, I have
always
bought into the Martin Luther King-style "color blind" (and by extension in
the concept,
"everything-blind") society goal. To clarify: I'm not so silly as to not see
cultural differences in
people; but I don't assign Merit - or DeMerit - based on those factors.

As an "Earthican," as FUTURAMA would call us, I claim kinship with Abraham
Lincoln, Dr. King,
William Shakespeare, [removed] as well as Jack Benny, Dennis Day, Eddie
Anderson, and Victor Borge!

Carl Reiner: Radio had some of the funniest comedians. With the exception of
Fred Allen, they were all Jewish - Jack Benny, Eddie Cantor, George Burns.

I've watched & enjoyed - as I always do - Carl in the current PBS series on
the subject.
But his comment here, tribal pride aside, is as factually incorrect as it is
clearly stated.
No harm in debating it!

Sorry for the length --

No apology required - thank you for it!
Best,
-Craig Wichman
