Rodney Bowcock writes about the recently announced 21st edition of the
Cincinnati OTR & NOstalgia convention:

Please, join us April 20-21, 2007 for the 21st event. If the
idea of a cozy weekend spent with friends old and new discussing all things
nostalgia appeals to you, this is without a doubt the place for you to be.
It's uncomplicated, unpretentious, and generally a whole lot of fun!
Besides, if we keep coming, Bob has to keep holding them!

Here, here, Rodney! But since #21 has a special allure. Bob Burchett could
advertise it the convention as "becoming legal." Since #21 is also tied into
the game of blackjack, maybe Prof. Ramlow can present shows with the words
"Black" and/or "Jack" in the title, such as "Boston Blackie" and "Jack
Armstrong, the All-American Boy."

Yours in the Etherville--
(Hon.) Derek Tague

For anyone that has ever wanted to produce or be part of
creating a radio drama, thet time is coming up for the 2006
Audio Theatre Workshop, June 18-24, 2006 in West Plains, Missouri.

Speaking as someone who has attended the Workshop during three different
summers, I endorse it wholeheartedly. You get to spend a week working with
some
of the best and most imaginative people involved in the field of audio drama
today. There are workshops and panels and presentations, and you get to
play hands-on with the very latest in audio technology. Meanwhile, you're
putting in long hours rehearsing your part or putting together sound effects
or
recording live sound in the field, because coming up at the end of the week
is
a live, 2-hour radio broadcast in front of a large and enthusiastic audience
that showcases everything you've learned during the program. The attendees
are of all ages, from high schoolers to retirees. What they all share is a
love of audio drama and an interest in exploring what can be done with the
medium in modern times. Whether you're an actor or a writer or a techie,
you'll
have a great time!

You may actually get a reply -- but no promises! He's still digging out

Karen Lerner inquired about radio appearances by Ossie Davis and his wife
Ruby Dee. In 1977 and 1978 they had their own show, "Story Hour," via the
Mutual Black Network. They read poetry and short stories written by
African-American writers and usually included an interview with a writer as
well.

I'm not sure I read carefully everything in the thread on husbands and
wives in OTR, so forgive me if I'm repeating anything already mentioned. Two
couples who were married and divorced during the OTR era (does that still
count?) are announcer James Matthews and actress Monty Margetts (NBC in San
Francisco made a big deal over it, they both told me years later) and also
Bill
Goodwin and Paula Winslowe were married for a short time in the early
thirties. Paula was occasionally on the Burns and Allen show while her ex
was the
announcer.

Did anyone already mention Lurene Tuttle and Melville Ruick? Hey,
that's three announces married to actresses. But let's not start another

I had another great time at the Cincinnati convention this year. I got
to see some friends, found some great treasures at the dealer tables,
and even got to be in a recreation again this year. Thankfully, I
didn't have to sing this time.

It's a real pleasure to watch the pros work, and it was a great
experience taking direction from Hal Stone.

A big thank you to all who made this convention happen this year, and a
huge thank you for deciding to do it again next year. I can only
imagine how much work it takes to make it all happen, but your efforts
really are appreciated.

And to all those who haven't gone yet, be sure to make plans for next
year.
