Subject: Fred Berney's GoFundMe page

Folks;

First thing I need to tell you is that I have temporarily removed
Fred's email address from the Digest list; I'll put it back once this
issue goes out. Please send replies to this Digest issue to me directly.

For those of you who do not know who Fred and Ellen Berney are, Fred
has been in the OTR hobby longer than I have. I first met Fred at FOTR,
and through FOTR we became good friends. When Fred was selected to
provide the FOTR convention with Video Recording, I helped out so he
could occasionally get back to his dealer's table, which Ellen mostly
ran. We also worked together on a number of projects over the years, and
I have always been available to help him wrangle recalcitrant computers
to their knees so he could get his work done. And he was always available
whenever I had a question about video recording, what hardware to use,
and how not to make a recording session look like an amature shot it.

And through all of that, he never ONCE mentioned he was in dire
strates, nor did he tell me he started a GoFundMe page back in 2018. It
was friend Jack French (another guy who's done more for this hobby than
he gets credit for) who pointed me to it this week.

About the only thing I can tell you about Fred is that he's been a
good guy and a good friend for the entire time I've known him. We have
occasionally disagreed on things, as all friends do, but we respected
each other's fields of knowledge and helped fill in gaps the other was
missing. (At least he did and continues to do so for me; I can only hope
I provided the same.)

Ellen bonded with my wife over nursing, and me [removed], hell,
everything. She was a sweet woman with a huge laugh, and I frequently
sat at their dealer table at various conventions just talking to them
about everything. And Ellen never missed asking about my daughter Katie.
I'm saddened to think she never will [removed] watched my own
mother go through this horrible disease where loss occurs long before
death, I can only sympathize with Fred at having to watch the woman he
dearly loves slowly disappear before his eyes.

Fred's done a helluva lot for the OTR hobby over the years, and even
more for me, so I would take it as a personal favor if you would visit
Fred's GoFundMe page and read over not just the 2018 initial post, but
the updates to it as well. I know things are difficult for everyone
right now, but if you have a few dollars you can spare, that would be
wonderful.

   The page is at:

   ...and thanks for reading.

         Charlie Summers
