Subject: Drought in Freeville

On Friday, Anne asked about the changes to the When Radio Was schedule. What
has happened is that, since Chuck Schaden is selecting all of the episodes
(and interviews) that will air on When Radio Was beginning with his debut on
October 9th, the episodes that were previously scheduled after that date have
been changed. HOWEVER, Chuck and I have spoken about the Superman serial and
he does plan to finish airing the remaining "Drought in Freeville" episodes
at some point in the not-too-distant future. He is sensitive to the fact
that many listeners will be unhappy if they do not get to hear the exciting
conclusion!

Subject: Dragnet on Radio & TV

Roger Keel asked:

were any of the Dragnet or Lone Ranger radio shows redone as TV
episodes?

I can't speak for THE LONE RANGER, but nearly all of the DRAGNET TV episodes
from the pilot of December 1951 through the sixth season (1956-57) came from
radio scripts, and about a quarter of the 1957-59 episodes were also
originally presented on radio - some from as far back as 1949.

In fact, an episode of DRAGNET 1967 was taken directly from a 1954 radio
episode. Anybody know which one? (Hint: it's NOT "The Big Little Jesus.")

My book, MY NAME'S FRIDAY, contains a log of the original TV episodes, which
includes the radio broadcast dates for those that were based on radio shows.

"Fortunately, the majority of Americans know the truth, regardless of real or
perceived attempts at obfuscation: America DOES NOT torture prisoners, and
America DOES NOT target civilians; no nation in history has been more of a
global force for good than America, and most of her citizens both recognize
that fact and take great pride in it." - Jeff Emanuel

Subject: Susan Siegel's OTR book

Having seen a copy of "A Reference Guide to Old Time Radio," Susan and Dave
Siegel's reference work re radio archives, I suspect that her latest work.
"Radio Scripts in Print," is probably going to be of great interest to many
OTR fans. The Reference Guide is superb. I wish I had both works before I
started my research in radio 12 years ago.

I believe at least one episode of Dragnet was done on TV after being on
radio. I don't know the sow title but it was about someone who burned a Bible
in their fireplace. Sorry, but that's all I remember about it.
