Bill Mackie asks about a radio program based upon "Ace Drummond" a comic
strip by Eddie Rickenbacker. I don't know anything about any radio version of
this fictional pilot, but the strip was drawn by Clayton Knight (1891-1969)

Knight was an illustrator who enlisted in the Lafayette Escadrille, and saw a
lot of action over the skies of France in WW I. He was shot down and gravely
injured but recovered to resume his art career, doing mostly aviation
illustrations, with his wife, Katherine Sturgis Knight, also an illustrator.
He was chosen by King Features to draw the newspaper strip of "Ace Drummond"
which had been created by Eddie Rickenbacker in 1934.

The strip told tales of youthful Ace, with his geezer mechanic, Jerry, having
air adventures from China to South America. Despite Knight's great drawings,
the strip was but a modest success and was dropped after a few years by King
Features.

Far more successful was the movie serial of Ace Drummond, first released in
1936. Its chapters continued to be shown in theaters through the 40s and then
it jumped to kids television in the early 50s for more re-runs.
