Once again, dirigible is a broad classification for any navigable
Lighter-than-air craft. A blimp can be a dirigible. A zeppelin can be a
dirigible. A blimp cannot be a zeppelin. Zeppelins are rigid, blimps are
not.

Subject: blimps, dirigibles and airships
Well, one difference between a blimp and a dirigible or airship or zeppelin
was the size and accomodations. A blimp has seating for a few people in
accomodations similar to a two-engine Cessna. Airships had cabin
attendants, a chef, and a daily newspaper for the passengers. Leave your
shoes outside your cabin at night, and they'd be shined in the morning.
It took the dream a long time to die. After World War II, Goodyear proposed
a very large airship, with service between New York and London.
Helium-filled, just like the Hindenburg was supposed to have been (we
wouldn't sell Germany helium in the '30's, which is why the H. used
hydrogen.)
Although airship travel was fairly rare, seasonal (they didn't fly in the
winter) and expensive, I'm surprised that there weren't any radio shows that
took place aboard one of the zeppelins. (At least I've never heard one.) It
was certainly the most luxurious means of getting across the Atlantic,
generally between Europe and South America.
Alas, the post-War Goodyear ship was never built. The problem with airships
is not that they'd burn, but that they'd crash, which was the fate of almost
all of them. They couldn't withstand the downdrafts in our uncivilized
American thunderstorms.
