Subject: Station Mgt. 101
I couldn't help but laugh at Jim Cox's wife's reaction to his
frustration with one (or group) of radio stations in his city. I
get the same reaction from my wife as I complain about 20 minutes
of dead air or dial tone-like hum. Who's minding the station?
Nobody except the [removed] it's "garbage in, garbage out"
or perhaps it's somewhat good stuff in and garbage out because of
a power surge or other electronic hic-cup.
And why cannot our wives understand why we are so upset? It's
because we love(d) the medium so much, and to see it in a coma
or, at least, vegetative state that it is in now, is terribly sad
and, we think, unnecessary. Jim's wife may well be right, we're
the only ones listening; smarter people wrote off today's radio
long ago.
And as a further aside: What are the chances WKJK will ever
make-good to advertisers the commercials that were not run
because it was actually carrying WHAS' programming? What are the
chances the logs will be corrected and the stations otherwise own
up to this in a report to the FCC?

Subject: The Fat Man
Been on a Fat Man kick lately. Listening to a MP3 CD with 54 Fat Man
episodes on it. The first 10 episodes have broadcast dates, starring Jay
Scott Smart as Brad Runyan, The Fat Man. The remaining episodes do not have
broadcast dates, but their titles all begin with "Murder" this and that like
the original Fat Man. These episodes are probably the Australian version Fat
Man. The Announcer has an Australian accent. They don't have the familiar
theme, and fewer music bridges. I like the theme which keeps running through
my mind. I think Jay Scott Smart does a fantastic job as the Fat Man! Wish
more episodes were available.
I have some questions about the Australian Fat Man: When was it broadcast?
Who plays the Fat Man? How many episodes were produced? Did they use the
same scripts as the US version? Whoever plays the Fat Man isn't in the same
league as Smart, but his delivery improves with the episodes, and is still
enjoyable listening.
