Subject: Cincinnati Awards

The Cincinnati Convention is coming to a close this evening . . .

Don Ramlow directed YOURS TRULY, JOHNNY DOLLAR, THE BICKERSONS, HAVE GUN-WILL
TRAVEL and SUSPENSE at the convention.

The vendor room gave me an opportunity to learn how MP3s were actually
encoded and made, and two vendors now responsible for
having found EARLY masters of radio programs GUNSMOKE and THE CAVALCADE OF
AMERICA, and their efforts of transferring them
to both CD and MP3. (I'm still a CD person.) And best yet, there are "lost"
episodes found of CAVALCADE so when they become
available REALLY SOON, I'll be the first customer.

Meeting up with everyone I see once a year is wonderful. The Hughes family,
Chris Holm, Steve Jansen, Rick Keating, and everyone else.

John Rayburn was a treat this year and his latest book (published by
McFarland), is great.

As for the awards given out, the winners are . . .

The Parley Baer Award for preserving and enjoying Old-Time Radio is John D.
Rayburn, our weekend guest!

The Dave Warren Award was introduced by Derek Tague, who spoke about Dave
Warren a bit before the award
was presented to John Rayburn (again!).

The Stone/Waterman Award was presented for "preserving Old-Time Radio" to
Fred Berney, who has helped considerably in
filming the events at conventions, which is just as impostant as the people
responsible back in the 1930s, 40s, and so on,
transcribing and recording shows to preserve the history of OTR.

The Radio Researchers Group (who needs no introduction), was also given the
Stone/Waterman Award, accepted by Ryan Ellett.
The Radio Researchers Group also sponsored the convention and everyone is
grateful for their assistance.

Bob Burchett closed the evening assuring us there will be another next year,
so I am already looking forward to next year - 364 days to go!

Subject: Any info about Sammie Hill?

Hello, does anyone have any info about radio actress Sammie Hill? She was
the young-voiced lady in many shows, such as Gunsmoke, Suspense, Yours Truly
Johnny Dollar, and others. I find no info about her on the internet.
Thanks a lot.
Matthew

Hello,

Two or three weeks ago there was a post to the digest about radio actor
Jeff David having had a heart attack and not expected to come out of it.

This was very disturbing news to me as I have thoroughly enjoyed his work at
FOTR. Can someone shed some light on his current condition?

Thanks,

Dan

Subject: Re: Claghorn/Leghorn

There's a great article about the confusion of the voices of Senator
Claghorn and Foghorn Leghorn on the Cartoon Research website. Cleared up
a lot of things for me!

[removed]

Thanks to Bruce and Michael for posting that article about Senator Claghorn
and Foghorn Leghorn, but the article had one bit of misinformation. It states
that Allen's Alley was written by "Allen and his co-writers", but I have read
that while Fred did indeed work with writers, all the Allen's Alley material
was written exclusively by him.

Thanks,
Mike
