Subject: Vague OTR Memories

During my days of being involved in a radio career as a youngster, I
sometimes worked calls to appear on broadcasts wherein it's a bit bewildering
to my recall just why I was on the show in the first place. I was what is
now termed a child actor. I worked from age 8 years old until age 19 when
due to my affiliation with the Califironia Air National Guard I was called to
military active duty in the [removed] Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In
actuality I was a younger voice. So why did I appear on shows such as The
Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy Show, The Bob Burns Show, The Rudy Vallee
Show, The Bing Crosby Show, The ,Amos and Andy Variety Show?

To the best of my recollection I appeared in the dramatizations of the show
portending to represent the activities of the show's headliner during the
time spanning between this and last week's show. Such being the case I have
faded memories of experiences I underwent during those calls.

For example I remember my astonishment on the Bob Burns show when at the end
of Mr. Burns bazooka performance he abruptly took the instrument down from
his lips and threw it onto the floor behind him, it making a metallic
clinking noise surely audible over the air for I listened for it whenever I
at home tuned in to the show, and for sure, knowing what to listen for, I
could hear those two metal pipes hitting the floor. It was also on the Bob
Burns Show where Spike Jones, of the zany comic band (Chloe, In Der Fuehrer's
Face, Cocktails for Two) smilingly accused me of perhaps being at fault for
one of his xylophone-like constructed cowbells busting off when he hit it
during one of his numbers. He called me Junior and that's what I faintly saw
Spike mouth and heard through the music him utter questionly when it happened
on the show, for during rehearsal he knew I used to wander around his crazy
instrument contraptions that produced his frenzied
music, on my word I touched nothing.

I remember looking at my Bing Crosby script to see the lyrics of the
scheduled programmed songs Bing was to sing, written on the page as like the
lines of a poem would be. And when on the Amos and Andy show, being told by
Freeman and Gosden not to speak the script's lines with any attempt at a
dialect.
And for the Rudy Vallee Seal Test Show my purchasing a new marooned paneled
sportcoat to wear before the audience to look good. What I did on the
program? I have no recollection, but I had to be playing some role in a
dramatization, for that's what I did.

I also remember Gracie Allen and George Burns of the Burns and Allen Show,
on just across the hall at the CBS Columbia Square studios from the Mayor of
the Town show I did, George puffing on his long cigar and Gracie continually
adjusting her hair nervously waiting to go through the studio doors onto the
stage of studio B.

These are just a few of the memories I have while doing Old Time Radio.

Regards.
