Subject: thoughts on Martin's thoughts

It's good to hear what Martin said about the theft of OTR information. For a
while I've been trying to spread the word on what Google is doing - scanning
all books without permission. It's just one reality to prove that the
internet is still the Wild West. The important thing is talking about this
subject so that people are Aware of it. You'd be surprised how often people
send me pictures for their books which are half off the internet! There's a
subliminal thought coursing around that anything on the web is free to use
for anything. Hopefully, with time will come further enlightenment.

I remember when my Paul Frees book came out, there was almost nothing on the
web about Paul. Now, I'm getting a wealth of info from his son that he forgot
to say the 1st time, for the 2nd edition which I'm working on now. And the
massive Verna Felton book we put out - over 600 pages! - came mostly from
family info, including great pictures that had been biding time in an old
chest in her niece's attic for years. These are the things that make books
valuable, and make money for authors so they keep having the wherewithal to
seek out More info for the betterment of books and man.

Hi all. When did Dennis Day join the cast of Jack's radio show? Also, who

Answer: Dennis Started on October 8, 1939. Larry Stevens took his place
in 1944. My opinion, Larry was never nearly as good as Dennis.

Thanks, Mike Ogden, for your information.
Do you mean to say that if LOC releases its stuff from the early 30s we will
get a Rathbone reading of "Hound of the Baskervilles"?
I now have part of episode 5, but none of the rest.
I have a friend who has been looking for the "Hound" for years.

Subject: Re: Gosden & Correll photos

Turn it over. On the back are 4 pix of Gosden & Correll made during an
"early" A/A b'cast, altho they don't look so young to me. I'm just
wondering where these pix came from and if there are any more to be found.

The only serial-era episode where photos were allowed to be taken during
the actual broadcast was that of August 22, 1935 -- an NBC staff
photographer followed them around thru the whole routine that evening and
snapped a whole series of shots in NBC Chicago Studio F Before, during,
and after the broadcast. If they show Correll and Gosden in sport clothes
and Gosden with a hat pushed back on his head, sitting at a table with
the mike between them, they're from that shoot. Another pic from that
shoot appears on page 160 of my book, as they leave the studio following
the sign-off.

(I never had that particular LP, but I do have the cassette release of
it.)

Subject: OTR Movies Heads Up

Howdy,

decent.)

Subject: Stealing of information
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

I want to give my two cents worth in on the topic of stealing and
using information without authorization. Any reputable author would
give due diligence to researching their information before ever putting
pen to paper. Sure, it might take some time, but would really be worth
it in the end. If, during the course of this research, they find some
information
that another author has previously used in their work and would like to
use in their work, then contact the author and get his/her permission
(hopefully in writing) to use it. Once they have it, they should list the
author's name in the book credits. If the originating author doesn't
give permission to use this information, then move on and look elsewhere.

Anyone who would purposefully use information (whether it was just a
quote or something more substantial) and claim it as their own, should
not only be banned from any OTR lists, but a list of their books should
be sent to bookstores and removed from the shelves there!

There is NOTHING more despicable than someone who tries to make
a quick buck using someone else's information and claiming it as their
own! I sure wouldn't.

Another thing: I think if anyone plans to write a book of any kind,
they
should be as thorough as possible! There are books out there with so
much varied information in them, it's hard to know which to believe. I'm
not talking about the historical parts (some authors might have missed or
not had access to some of those), but the actual dates and times they list.

Readers are going to accept the facts they read (for the most part) as
truth. It is the responsibility of every author to make sure their
information
is the truth and have it verified before it gets into print and put onto
stores
shelves.

As always,

Kenneth Clarke
