Subject: Inner Sanctum collection

In an effort to compile a list of all known existing Inner Sanctum episodes,
I have made a list of all titles and airdates to recordings known to exist.
If anyone has any episode not on this list, can you e-mail me so I can add
it to this list? (I'd also like a copy of any recording not on this list so
I can double-check the accuracy - many episodes floating about with
different titles are the same recordings.)
The AFRS rebroadcasts with alternate titles are included on this list, but
under their original title and airdate. A couple questionables are

maybe he wasn't quite in the league of Groucho or Fred Allen

To the contrary, his appearance on Fred Allen's NBC finale has Jack firing
off what are, IMO, better ad libs than Fred! In fact, one of the best of the
lot is (paraphrasing from memory):

Benny: [on part of his Vaudeville act] I stopped every show with it. (slight
silence)
Allen: Except this one. (huge laughter)
Benny: This one stopped ten minutes before I got on it! (big laughter)

Of course, this was a reference to Fred's chronic inability to end his
programs on time during his later years on NBC. I'm curious if anyone knows,
while Allen's beef with NBC about this was famous, what (if anything) was
known of his fellow comics' attitude towards the situation? Did they feel
NBC was at fault for cutting a program they pretty much knew would go long,
or did they feel Fred was at fault for his inability to comply with time
restraints? Or both?

There was a local (or regional) WBBM-Chicago-produced version of The
Whistler in 1946 (Sunday evenings, sponsored by Meister Brau beer).

Are there any airchecks existing and/or circulating of this version?

And what other regional and international versions of series are there with
airchecks still in existence? I saw this afternoon where Chuck Schaden has
the premiere episode of the Australian version of "Fibber McGee & Molly"
scheduled for some time in May on "Those Were the Days," and I've heard
Aussie versions of other series (the most immediate coming to mind being
"The Fat Man," "The Shadow" and "Inner Sanctum").

Hi,

Just heard an episode of the Jack Carson show.
The character of Norma Jean, sounds awfully
similar to Kathy (the youngest daughter) on Father Knows Best ...

Anyone have any info on this actress(es) ?

Subject: Groucho was overrated, imo

as an adlibber. He was very funny, but i somehow think much of his so called
adlibbing was ochestrated. I remember watching a tv show once, i think in the
60s or seventies, and groucho, jack benny, george burns, and possibly one
other comedian were sitting in a round-table format for the purpose of an
adlib session. Now this was supposed to be unrehearsed live chatter. I think
there was also a guy with them as sort of a moderaror. If score would have
been kept, groucher would have come in last. The best of the group by far was
easily george burns, he brought the house down time after time.

Subject: Alan Reed, Versatile Actor

Stephen in a recent message said:

I was just thinking recently about how tough it is for me NOT to picture
FRED FLINTSTONE any time I hear Alan Reed speak (like on "Life With Luigi",
for example). Having grown up with "The Flintstones", his voice is utterly
unmistakeable, and permanently associated (in my head) with the
aforementioned Mssr Flintstone.

In mixing up the career of Alan Reed with radio's comic Luigi and TV's
cartoon Flintstones, let's not forget that Alan was a more versatile actor
than just that. Please recall that in the 1952 theatrical movie "Viva
Zapata," the Marlon Brando classic, Alan played the renegade Pancho Villa to
Brando's rebel Emiliano Zapata.

Many of our radio/TV characters are capable of a whole lot more.
