Subject: Cincinnati Convention Discussion

Folks;

The post last issue about the Cincinnati Convention is sparking postings
which have nothing to do with Old-Time Radio, and are leaning into the realms
of convention management, television, etc. Where normally I'd have a good
feel for whether to include or reject them, in this case I am
[removed] On the one hand, I don't want the list to get
bogged-down in the minutae of what a nostalgia convention should be, on the
other hand it's possible that it may be of interest to a significant number
of subscribers. Alternativerly, it may be too much "inside baseball,"
something only those within shouting distance of Ohio really care about.

So thanks to my indecision, I'm going to punt the decision to YOU. I'd
appreciate if everyone would take a moment to drop a note to:

feedback003@[removed]

...with your thoughts on whether or not the Digest should discuss the
Cincy convention in any way other than to promote _this_ year's convention
(which isn't really up for [removed] course posts from Bob promoting this
year's con are going to be included). PLEASE understand I won't be responding
to any of the comments (I'm expecting to receive a whole lot of them), so if
you have questions about the list, please send them to the "usual" address.
Do NOT send postings yes-or-no to the Digest, as they will be summarily
deleted. And before a few people ask, no, this is not going to be some
pseudo-scientific tabulation; I will read the comments and certainly get a
feel for the mood of the subscriber base.

Until then, I'm going to hold all postings specifically about the
convention, the future of OTR conventions, what they should or should not be,
whether they should change, etc., etc., so feel free to send them in while
it's fresh in your mind if you like, just understand these posts won't appear
until I know better what y'all think about that discussion. (Posts on other
topics will continue to appear.)

         Charlie

Subject: Eddie Cantor weekday show?

I've never seen this mentioned in any of the otr books that I've read,
but I remember a half-hour weekday afternoon Eddie Cantor show circa
1955. The station it was on was either an ABC or a Mutual affiliate,
but I suppose the show might have been syndicated. It was on weekdays
at 4:00 or 4:30 where I lived in Albany, NY. I remember that Eddie
Cantor used to sign off with a version of the song "When You're
Smiling," with the line, "So till the next time, be full of good Cheer/
I hope that next time, I'll meet you right [removed]" The reference to
"next time" leads me to suspect syndication.

Does anyone know anything about this show?
