Subject: Who Will Follow in the Footsteps of John Todd
and Jay Silverheels?
Disney Studios is going to film a new Lone Ranger motion picture. Jerry
Bruckheimer, who produced the Pirates of the Caribbean and National
Treasure movies and who produces such hit TV shows as the three CSI
series, Without a Trace, and Cold Case, will produce the new Lone Ranger
movie.
Would John Todd and Jay Silverheels approve of the new Tonto? Disney has
announced that Johnny Depp will star as Tonto.

This TV website, which generously plugged both FOTR and the Mid-Atlantic
Nostalgia convention recently, is also covering attempts to revive The Green
Hornet and The Lone Ranger in the movies.
[removed]
Looks like the Hornet is a little closer to reality.
As much warmth and nostalgia these characters engender, particularly among
those of us who have had the chance to meet the people behind the
productions, I kind of have to agree with him that there doesn't seem to be
much point in bringing them back.
If they are true to the original series, the movies will be campy to the
point of unintentional comedy and if they aren't, well then that would be
worse, wouldn't it? They tried to make a new "teenaged" version of The Lone
Ranger for TV a couple of years ago and while I didn't see it, all the
critics called it the worst thing they had ever seen.

Excellent books have been written by Martin Grams Jr. in the last few years
about such series as 'Suspense', 'Inner Sanctum', 'I Love a Mystery', 'Sam
Spade' and 'Ellery Queen' and our thanks are due to Martin for these. So far
I
have not been able to find a book about the series 'The Whistler'. As there
were some 700 shows in the series, that ran from 1942 to 1945, with some 500
available, I find this strange; indeed it might be one of the 'many strange
tales' mentioned by 'The Whistler' in his weekly introduction.
Does anyone know of any book written or planned about 'The Whistler'? If
not, perhaps Martin will consider this for the future. Regrettably, I cannot
make it from England to FOTR this year to ask him about this.
