Subject: Batman Modern OTR?

I believe I have it on casette with a cover featuring comic art that
appears to have been drawn by Neil Adams, which fits the period of the 1966
TV show.

The Adam West show was indeed '66; but Neal Adams was not doing work for DC
yet, [removed]

There are also more than a few of these type of recordings for Superman,
usually being part of a set that includes a "free comic" or storybook.

...and the releases you speak of are likely the "PowerRecords," which
actually date from later, the '70's.

Jackson Beck ... did work all through the Hanna Barbera Superfriends
years, the Batman/Superman "Adventure Hours" and myriad of HB projects that
came along each year

He did indeed do work through those years - and many after! But I don't
believe he ever worked for HB, but rather for Filmation Studios. Ted Knight
fulfilled much of Jack's type roles for HB.

Actual OTR of Batman, as far as I know, is pretty rare. The Superman World's
Finest shows (from Radio Spirits) and a handful of two minute mystery type
shorts are all I've been able to dig up to collect.

I think there was another pilot, of sorts - Mr. Tollin?

Best,
-Craig W.

Subject: RE: Batman modern OTR?

Here's a little more information on the Batman otr/children's records. The
record sets that contained the comic book and where structured as "The
Action Comes Alive as you read" were released on the Power Records label, a
division of Peter Pan Industries. Credits were listed as Produced by Herb
Davidson and Charlotte Sanders for the Charlotte Russe on the back cover of
the comic, but different producers are listed on the two records I have;
Cornel Tanassy for Batman - "Stacked Cards", and Arthur Korb for Batman -
"Robin meets Man-Bat." There were at least 32 records released, as indicated
on the inside covers of the books. The numbering listed starts at 10, so
it's possible that there are no releases 1 thru 9. The records featured
characters from both DC and Marvel Comics plus the TV shows Space 1999 and
Star Trek.

I just listened to the two Batman records listed above, and Jackson Beck is
not in either one of them. I can't recognize any of the voices. Two
different sets of actors portray Batman and Robin. It's all pretty flat and
wouldn't appeal to anyone interested in otr. They probably recorded all the
records in one day with no rehearsal.

The only reason I still have these is because the comics were drawn by Neal
Adams. There's really no otr connection with these at all.
