A weekly [removed]
For the best in OTR Chat, join IRC (Internet Relay Chat), StarLink-IRC
Network, the channel name is #OldRadio. We meet Thursdays at 8 PM Eastern
and go on, and on! The oldest OTR Chat Channel, it has been in existence
over nine years, same time, same channel! Started by Lois Culver, widow
of actor Howard Culver, this is the place to be on Thursday night for
real-time OTR talk!
Our "regulars" include OTR actors, soundmen, collectors, listeners, and
others interested in enjoying OTR from points all over the world. Discussions
range from favorite shows to almost anything else under the sun (sometimes
it's hard for us to stay on-topic)...but even if it isn't always focused,
it's always a good time!
For more info, contact charlie@[removed]. We hope to see you there, this
week and every week!

CLASSICS & CURIOS
"Echoes of Songs and Laughter"
Episode 35
DREAMS AND MOMENTS TO REMEMBER
Edna St. Vincent Millay said that "Beauty is whatever gives you joy."
Certainly one of God's most beautiful joys and blessings is music, and
some of the most beautiful songs are on the show this week, songs
reflecting musical dreams and memories, songs I grew up with and
continue to enjoy to this very day. You'll hear Kitty Kallen softly
declare, it's all "Happy Talk," as the Pied Pipers invite us to "Dream."
The Oakridge Boys test your memory as they appropriately ask the musical
question, "Do You Remember These?" Remember the Four Lads? They
celebrate, "Moments to Remember." Andy Griffith affirms what a joy
"Precious Memories" are. And Bob Hope expresses his gentle joy with
"Thanks for the Memory." In a radio moment Bing Crosby and the Andrews
Sisters sing "I Can Dream, Can't I." A Guy Lombardo radio show segment
broadcasts memories of happy times with a Lombardo medley featuring
tunes like "Shine on Harvest Moon," "Button Up Your Overcoat," and "My
Gal Sal." Guy closes with his radio farewell, "Auld Lang Syne." Truly
old dreams are wonderful, but, as Doris Day and Les Brown remind us,
special new dreams do keep coming, as they perform "My Dreams Are
Gettin' Better All the Time." Like us, Perry Como is on a "A Dreamer's
Holiday," as we hear more memories and dreams from the Four Freshmen,
Woody Herman, Cliff Edwards (Disney's Jiminy Cricket) and others.
Finally, Kitty Kallen reprises "Happy Talk" as the show's closing theme,
and God has truly blessed us with the joyful beauty of music once again.
THE "DREAM THEME" WITH EDDIE HUBBARD ON VINTAGE ABC RADIO
Eddie, a mentor and friend, adds some of his own songs of dreaming on
this rebroadcast of his ABC Radio "Hubbard's Cupboard" show. It can't
get much better than Perry Como and "Dream Along With Me," "I'll See You
in My Dreams" by Eddie Howard, "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" by Louis
Armstrong, "I Dream of You" by Tommy Dorsey, and a reprise of "Dreamer's
Holiday," this time by Buddy Clark. There's more with "Dream Lover"
written and sung by Bobby Darin and songs by Glen Campbell, Dick Haymes,
the Platters, Charlie Spivak, and more. Eddie winds up this show with
extra songs by Peggy Lee and Tony Bennett, and finally a station news
cast about space launch safety closes this undated broadcast, probably
from 1989. There is also a brief station commercial during this broadcast.
Thanks to Jerry Haendiges Productions for adapting Eddie Hubbard's
original studio tapes for rebroadcast.

Make Believe Ballroom Time
Episode 1
This week's It's Make Believe Ballroom Time features a remote broadcast
of the Billy May Orchestra from The Hollywood Palladium from 12-07-53.
Billy has his Encores with him to spice up the vocals. This band has a
most unique sound with saxes wailing and brass playing great counterpart
phrasing. It's Billy May at his best. The band is tight, well-rehearsed
and enjoys playing the special [removed] only Billy May can score.
Then, we're off to New York City for the great Louis Armstrong
[removed]'s May 5, 1955 and this thirty minute program is remoted from
The Basin Street Club. This group was called Louis Armstrong and his All
Stars at various times. This recording features Trummy Young on
trombone, Barney Bigard clarinet, Billy Kyle piano, Arvell Shaw, bass
and Barrett Deems on drums. The night club atmosphere can be heard from
audience reaction to this [removed]'s just what it is a great show!

Hi Everyone,
A closer look at the short movie Back of the Mike suggests the radio cast and
sound effects crew shown
in the film are members of the WXYZ stock company. The bald,
bespectacled gentleman is John Todd who played Tonto on the Lone Ranger.
Another key voice in the film would appear to belong to Jay Michael. Can
anyone identify others in the film?
