I can understand some of Charlie's feelings about radio drama being dead as a
doornail. Radio is no longer the only source for the presentation of full cast
audio shows what with pod casting Sirius/XM and the internet so term "radio"
drama is a bit archaic. However it is not quite dead. For over 15 years
fifty-two weeks a year Imagination Theatre has been producing and syndicating
full cast shows to a network of commercial radio station much in the way it
was done in the old days except we send out CD's and not 16 inch transcription
discs. Plus the station can download the show directly from us. We're not the
only ones, for several years Carl Amari and The Falcon Pictures Group have
been producing and syndicating audio versions of "The Twilight Zone." Then
there is "Adventures in Odyssey" produced by the folks at Focus on the
Family.
Charlie is correct when he says that most full cast audio drama in not created
to be aired on a radio station and he's right that the shows are not produced
on a regular basis but he is in error when he says its dead as a door nail
when it comes to shows being done week in and week out for your local
commercial station. It's on life support true but hardly [removed] Albert

Subject: Favorite OTR Streams

Hi folks,

I recently won an iPod Touch as a door prize at a company party. The first
thing I did was load it up with music and of course lots of OTR programming.
I'm slowly but surely becoming more and more aware of how powerful this
little device is. One of the things that I have really been getting into
lately is streaming radio. I have been an avid shortwave listener for going
on 50 years. I like the fact that I can stream some of my favorites like the
BBC, Radio Netherlands, The Voice of Russia, Radio Canada International,
Deutsche Welle and many other worldwide services in English. Delivered
wirelessly from my high speed Internet connection to the easy chair in my
living room.

There are a couple of OTR streams that I am aware of. I've been listening to
Antioch AM 1710 and Yesterday USA so far. I also know that there is some OTR
on Live365 as well as some "apps" specifically for OTR. There must be others.
Which are your favorites? I'd like to make sure I'm listening to the best OTR
that this technology has to offer

Thanks,
Tom

...is anybody else still alive from "My Favourite Husband"/"I Love Lucy"?

Bob Schiller is the last survivor of the "Lucy" writing staff.

"Sol Saks, a veteran television writer and playwright who created
the classic 1960s sitcom "Bewitched," has died. He was 100."

There are chapter-length interviews--primarily on their OTR
work--with both Saks and Schiller in my 1999 book, "The Laugh
Crafters."

Subject: Chester on Radio Once More

Regular readers may remember me asking about particular Gunsmoke episodes a
few weeks ago. At the time I mentioned that I was putting together a show
for Radio Once More, and thanks to the generous help from several digest
readers, the show is put together and scheduled.

Chester is frequently portrayed as the affable and not terribly effective
assistant. A common plot device has prisoners getting the better of him and
escaping in the middle of the episode, setting up Matt for the chase and
final showdown. However, Chester had another side to him: fiercely loyal,
resourceful, and occasionally a remorseless killer. Our concept is to
examine this other side of Chester. We'll be listening to and discussing
episodes of the series which show parts of the character not usually seen.

Be sure to tune in this Friday, April 29th at 9:00pm EST. Go to
[removed] and click on "To Listen Click Here". We'll also be
kicking off ROM's Gunsmoke marathon weekend.
