Subject: Sign-on/Sign-off
Greetings fellow listers. I've got a couple of questions that I hope
someone can help with.
In the '20s and '30s, what were the regulations that stations had to follow
regarding sign-ons and sign-offs? How many hours per day did they have to
fill (I realize it could vary), and could they, for instance, sign off in
the afternoon, stay off for a few hours, and then sign back on in the
evening?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Sammy Jones

Subject: Rocky Jordan
In Digest #180 Kenneth Clarke asks about the Rocky Jordan series. It's one
of my favorite programs. Yes, it was set in post-WWII Cairo, at least most
of the episodes. A few early episodes were set in Istanbul.
Rocky Fortune was a short-lived series that starred Frank Sinatra.
There is a lot of information on Rocky Jordan available on the internet.
Check the following examples:

Nearly all of the series episodes are in circulation. I recommend them very
highly.

Subject: #OldRadio IRC Chat this Thursday Night!
A weekly [removed]
For the best in OTR Chat, join IRC (Internet Relay Chat), StarLink-IRC
Network, the channel name is #OldRadio. We meet Thursdays at 8 PM Eastern
and go on, and on! The oldest OTR Chat Channel, it has been in existence
over nine years, same time, same channel! Started by Lois Culver, widow
of actor Howard Culver, this is the place to be on Thursday night for
real-time OTR talk!
Our "regulars" include OTR actors, soundmen, collectors, listeners, and
others interested in enjoying OTR from points all over the world. Discussions
range from favorite shows to almost anything else under the sun (sometimes
it's hard for us to stay on-topic)...but even if it isn't always focused,
it's always a good time!
For more info, contact charlie@[removed]. We hope to see you there, this
week and every week!

simply what I would call about a 10-15 note "fanfare" before it segues into
"Wing To Wing" once again to close out with a final word from Harlow

Hope this helps a little

Subject: RE:Bold Venture, Rocky Fortune, People Are Funny
Hello.
I am a relatively recent addition to this list. I understand that there was a
recent discussion of Bold Venture by some of the members. I missed that. I am
doing a study of the Bold Venture series and I would appreciate any help in
reviewing the background and rationale for the series and why Bogart and
Bacall agreed to do a radio series at a time when their film careers would
have been much more lucrative.
I am also looking into the Rocky Fortune series from the same standpoint.
I can be contacted offline at [removed]@[removed]
Also, while digging through my collections, I ran across four 16 inch, 33 1/3
discs of People Are Funny shows. The labels are Acousatronic NBC radio
recordings and the Charles Michaelson Co is stamped on them, as well as dates
from 1964 and 1965. My info is that PAF went off the air on radio in 1960.
Does anyone have a suggestion about what I should do with these? I have no
use for them

Subject: another WJR question
Does anybody here remember Jukebox Johnny Russell or Tall Paul Dean? They
were two disc jockeys on WJR in the mid-1950s. I'd love to know that I'm not
the only one who remembers listening to them. I've always wondered what
happened to them.
