Subject: The Insidious Serpent - A Lost Shadow Adventure
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from text/html

There were 53 broadcasts of The Shadow in 1950, due to a quirk in the
calendar. The first day of the year fell on a Sunday and the last day
of the year also fell on a Sunday. Sunday, of course, was the day The
Shadow was aired over the Mutual Broadcasting System. The Shadow took
no summer break from fighting crime that year, so he racked up a grand
   total of fifty-three adventures.
And yet, sadly enough, not a single recording of a 1950 episode has
survived. There's no Shadow programs you can listen to from that
year. Actually four of the 1950 stories were rewrites of earlier
scripts, so you could cheat and listen to one of the earlier shows and
pretend it's the 1950 version. Oh, wait a minute. No, you can't do
that either, because none of those four earlier versions have survived
   in recorded form. Bummer!
"The Insidious Serpent" was broadcast April 2, 1950. It's one of
those missing fifty-three. Like the others, it's a lost episode. But
although you can't hear it, you can read about it on my weekly blog

It's a story of a sacred scroll hidden in a jungle [removed] an old
manuscript that carries a curse upon whomever touches it. Join Lamont
Cranston and Margo Lane as they try to help its current owner, a man
haunted by voodoo drums and a poisonous disappearing serpent. Oh
yeah, this was a good one!
