Subject: Still needed: Ford Sunday Evening Hour 1/24/1937
About a year ago, I posted a note about needing access to transcription discs
of this particular program. Since then, I have obtained recordings of the
preceeding week's program--but still coming up blank on the urgently needed
June 24, 1937. The interested parties will pay $1,[removed] for
first-generation playable discs for use in the final volume ([removed]) of The
Complete Josef Hofmann. The program comprised:
Ford Symphony
Victor Kolar, conductor
Profession of the Sardar from Caucasian Sketches by Ippolitov-Ivanov
Larghetto from Piano Concerto No. 2 in f by Chopin
Josef Hofmann, pianist
Land Sighting by Grieg
Grand Valse Brilliant by Chopin &
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 by Liszt
Josef Hofmann, pianist
Intermission: Talk by [removed] Cameron
Polonaise No. 2 by Liszt
Interpreting contemporary newspaper accounts (including the LA Times
column "Sparks from The Antennae") this work was apparently played by the
orchestra without Mr. Hofmann, but it is a work originally for piano solo.
Should that piano solo version have been played by Mr. Hofmann on the
broadcast, we would of course need that--the basic need is simply for the
Hofmann performances on the broacast--most likely the first half of the
concert.
Introduction and Cortege from "L'Coq d'Or by Rimsky-Korsakov
We Worship the King by Haydn
In truth, I subscribed to this list serve in connection with this search, but
I read it, with interest and pleasure, every day. Many thanks for it and for
any help (or suggestions) anyone might provide.

1937 Fred Allen and Jack Benny met in one of the biggest publicity
gags ever. It was called, "The Battle of the Century." The two comedians
locked horns in the ballroom of the Hotel Pierre, exchanging torrid
insults that were heard by the second largest audience in the history of
radio.
3/17
1933 Comedian Phil Baker was heard on network radio for the first time
on a regular basis when The Armour Jester was heard on the Blue network.
Baker rapidly rose to the top of the radio ratings.

1940 Light of the World was first heard on NBC. The soap opera was
unique in that it featured the Bible as the center of the story line.
