Harold Ziegler's loss touches me deeply.
I will miss his smiling face and cheerful disposition at the OTR
Conventions.
As one of a handful of surviving OTR performers, I get to meet, and
sometimes correspond, with a great many fans of Old Time Radio.
There was no one whose company I enjoyed more than Harold'[removed] I greatly
appreciated the videotapes and photos of my "performances"
that he would send me after each Convention.
Harold's cherubic face, (grinning at me from under his trademark derby) will
always be etched in my mind.
My sympathies and condolences go out to all his family members.

Subject: Re: PASSING OF HAROLD ZEIGLER
When I read this short message that Charlie posted Monday night I was
shocked. I still find it hard to believe. My one regret was that I
didn't get to know Harold better.
He was a great help to me the last few years, running the camera at
FOTR. Several people helped me each taking a 2 hour turn behind the
camera. We would chat for a few minutes as I set up the equipment and
when I once mentioned that could use some footage of the old
conventions to put together the 30th anniversary DVD, he sent me a
stack of DVDs with a lot of interviews that he had done over the years.
Another time he just shipped me copies of what he had shot at the
Cincinnati convention. People tell me I shoot a lot of footage, but I
don't remember ever seeing Harold without a camera. He really seemed
to love talking to guest and collectors and saving those comments on
video tape.
I have not idea how many of these interviews he did, but there must
be hundreds if not more. He must have recorded just about every guest
that attended both the FOTR convention and the Cincinnati convention.
I'm going to miss him.
Fred

Subject: Gene Pitney
Sort of old time radio connected. Many of us who
listen and enjoy the old radio programs will remember
hearing Gene Pitney's songs on the radio back in the
60's. Gene was found dead in his hotel room this
morning in Wales. He had given a performance the
night before that resulted in a standing ovation. His
manager said that he was stunned by Gene's death as he
never seemed so well. It appeared that he had lain
down for a rest and slipped away peacefully.
Regards,
Anne
