Subject: TV to radio or same time
A. Joseph Ross commenting on "Wild Bill Hickok" speculates it went from TV to
radio or perhaps aired at same time. He wonders if there are any other
programs in that small category.
The radio version began on Mutual in May 1951 and would air until February of
1956, mostly sponsored by Kellogg's [removed] both the [removed] and Canada.
The television version ("The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok") was syndicated
for local [removed] broadcasting so the dates are a little muddy. Brooks & Marsh
contend it was produced from 1951 to mid-50s with 113 total episodes. When it
was actually first screened may not be know but it was in early 1951. In any
case, it did not reach network status until CBS broadcast it in 1955 and ran
for three years there. Later ABC also aired it from 1957 to 1958.
Logical supposition would be that the two versions were intended to begin at
the same time.
Hopalong Cassidy had a similar history, but different. The radio versions
were "in the can" but producers couldn't get them aired until the TV version
(recorded at the same time) gathered momentum. Then both were on the air
during the same period.
There were also a few TV shows that spawned a later radio version, including
Have Gun-Will Travel, My Little Margie, Howdy Doody, etc.

Subject: Little House radio
Ryan Ellett asked
I'm wondering if the Little House on the Prairie book
series by Laura Ingalls Wilder was ever dramatized. Written in the 1930s
and early 40s, I think they were fairly popular children's literature
from their publication, yet I'm not
aware of their adaptation to radio. Anyone have further info on this?
Hallmark Playhouse on March 15, 1951 adapted The Long Winter by Laura
Ingalls Wilder into a 30 minute program. This is the only version I am
aware of but I'm sure there are those much more knowledgable than I on
the subject.

Hi Folks
I know a lot of Digest readers like a good ghost/horror tale on the radio. So
do I , of course. I see next week that BBC Radio 4 are doing a 2-part
dramatization of 'The Exorcist' ( 2 x 60' )

Folks;
Added a new show to the Radio on TV folder in the Digest's Copy folder; an
episode of Boston Blackie, starring Kent Taylor. Guest starring in this
episode originally airing on June 30, 1952 (this was a ZIV syndicated
program, so asume the date is suspect) are two names familiar to OTR fans,
Billy Halop and Peter Leeds.
If you need access to the Digest's Copy folder, drop me a note.
Charlie
