Subject: Dragnet - TV Soundchek?

I've been a lifelong Dragnet fan and for years have searched for any type of
Dragnet transcription disc, either original or Armed Forces network with no
luck.

Recently I thought I'd finally gotten lucky when I saw a set of Dragnet discs
pop up on eBay. When I clicked on the auction however I was surprised to
find that even though they were transcription discs they were of an episode
of the 1950's TV Show as opposed to the radio series. The disc picture showed
a label with the Electro-Vox name, along with "TV Soundchek" at the top.

My question is how common of a practice was it to make transcription
recordings of TV broadcasts? Why not use a tape recorder, kinescope, or film
copy considering the show was filmed anyway? I'm curious what insight our
experts can add on this practice.

Incidentally if anyone has an actual radio "Dragnet" disc collecting dust
that you would like to see find a new (good) home please contact me too!
