Just like his brother Don, he was also a daytime soap opera star. His brother,
Don was on "As The World Turns" from the beginning to end. Bob played Lt. Burt
Ramsey on General Hospital. He was a good cop turned bad. I can still remember
uncovering Cliff Stoddard as a good cop turned bad and Lt. Ramsey saying,
"There's nothing worse than a dirty cop" and then good ol' Burt himself turned
dirty. It was a mistake in the writing too. There's were no need to ruin his
character the way they did. Bob Hastings was wonderful as always.

ISHAM JONES PROGRAM

Isham Jones' orchestra was one of the most popular dance bands in the
1920's and 1930's, and on his radio program he was introduced as "one of
America's leading dance maestros." But he could swing as well, and on
this radio program Isham does just that with upbeat versions of tunes
like "You're [removed]," "Black Magic," and "Panama." Isham really gets things
moving with "Dallas Blues" and "I Found a New Baby." His radio theme
song was "Out of Space," replacing his earlier theme "I'll See You in My
Dreams." Jones first appeared on radio on station WJZ during the opening
of the Brunswick Salon on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in 1925.

Among his arrangers and musicians over the years were Gordon Jenkins,
Benny Goodman, John Kuhn (formerly with Sousa's Band), Harry Resor (one
of the greatest banjoists of all time), Roy Bargy (later Jimmy Durante's
musical director for 20 years), and Woody Herman. Isham was known as a
tough taskmaster and for being rather cold and distant, but listening to
his romantic compositions it would be hard to detect such a personality
trait. His compositions include "Swingin' Down the Lane," "I'll See You
in My Dreams," "It Had to Be You," and "The One I Love (Belongs to
Somebody Else)." Bing Crosby made one of my favorite recordings with
Isham in 1932, "Sweet Georgia Brown," while Bing was still singing in an
early jazz style.

Isham was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame as well as
the Songwriters Hall of Fame. See Wikipedia and [removed] for
details about Isham Jones' life and career.

This program is available in the Jerry Haendiges Collection (cat. #
