I remember this but I can't come up with a title, and my copy of it is
hiding. Dick Beals and Arthur Anderson were involved in the remake. Can
anyone
help?

Hi

We're looking for a specific radio drama without knowing much about it,
and this is a long shot, but perhaps you can help.

The story involves an orphan who escapes from his orphanage in Saratoga
Springs, NY, and reaches Schenectaday, where he finds a group of players on a
canal boat. They travel west along the Erie Canal, performing at each
town on the way, and reach Little Falls, NY. The boy is recaptured at the
Little Falls Opera House.

We understand that the play was first performed on radio in the 1930s, and
that the actor who played the boy produced it again in the 50s, this time
playing one of the adult parts. Our interest is that there are very few
plays which feature Little Falls, and if we can find it, we'd like to do it as
a radio drama here on Little Falls radio.

If you ever come across it, we'd love to know.

Thanks

Tom Laurenson

Subject: August issue: RADIO RECALL

The full-color PDF version of the August 2014 issue went out to subscribers
on August 1st. The B & W hard copy will be mailed out next weekend to the
other subscribers who prefer that version.

Our lead article is by veteran radio researcher, Stewart Wright, detailing
the writing career of Kathleen Hite, one of the most successful women in
western radio drama. She authored most of the scripts for "Ft. Laramie" and
many of those on "Gunsmoke" as well as "Escape", "The Judge" and "Suspense."
Later she replicated her success in writing scripts for many prime-time
television series.

Kathy Hammel continues her research into "Candy Matson" with an article
discussing the ups and downs of the first marriage of Natalie Park to Paul
Melvin Vickland. The two met where they both worked at San Francisco's NBC's
radio affiliate and they were married in Reno, NV on January 3, 1940. They
were divorced less than two years later but both married a second time.

Regular Digester Jim Widner delves into the mystery of the missing audio
segments from the original CBS breaking news of the Japanese attack on Pearl
Harbor on December 7, 1941. Jim concentrates on the consternation facing the
CBS news people who were broadcasting "The World Today" live, almost while
the bombs were still falling.

The fourth major article in this issue is by Don Ramlow, who has directed
more OTR re-creations at our hobby conventions than probably anyone else. In
his detailed piece, Don covers the show-biz career of Peg Lynch, the creator,
writer, and star of "Ethel & Albert." Since Don has directed Peg several
times doing her show at OTR conventions, he brings a personal insight to this
talented lady.

All this, plus Letters to the Editor, contact information on upcoming OTR
events in the [removed], and a reminder about one of the longest running radio
programs in American history, alternately hosted by a grandfather, a father,
and a son, all in the same family. Can you guess this WOR program?

If you'd like a free copy of this issue, just show up at the Metro Washington
OTR Club segment at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention, September18-20, in
Hunt Valley, MD <[removed]; and we'll hand
you one a copy.

Otherwise you may view past issues by pointing your mouse at <[removed]>
and click on "Radio Recall."
