Regarding the comments I've received about my mention of the DVD collection
of "Remember WENN" -- I apologize for not knowing that the commemorative
edition of DVDs, which was commercially released around 2006, would not
still be manufactured. Presumably they sold out. (But if they did, wouldn't
that have been an indication to the record producers of the series'
popularity and encourage them to make some more?)
I had no idea so much time had passed!

Bob Keller asks about "Remember WENN" [removed] The last time I did an internet
search, I found this site:

However, as I understand it, these are bootlegs and not official DVD
releases. The price has dropped quite a bit since I last looked - from

this time, and they may be copies from VHS tapes. I have heard that they are
pretty good copies, though, and some may include the intros with the AMC
host. What was his name?. Its too early in the [removed]

With regard to Dick's question
Who was Adrian John Doe? He shows up as a writer on YTJD and some other
mystery shows. Could this be a real name?
According to the script, Adrian Gendot (which could sound like "John Doe")
was the writer of the YTJD program "The Silent Queen Matter". To the best of
my knowledge, based on a review of all the scripts available, Mr. Gendot only
wrote this one Johnny Dollar program. I woul love to know if he wrote others
for whom the writer is "unknown"

Subject: Remember: WENN and Lucy
The question posited here about the retr-OTR TV series from the 1990s
"Remember WENN" reminded me of last night's (18th) ABC News "20/20" special
in which Barbara Walters and Peolple Magazine counted down the "greatest TV
shows of all time" and in which somebody callously referred to the current
favourite "Mad Men" as being AMC's first originally produced series. WRONG!
That honour belongs to Rupert Holmes's "Remember WENN."
SPOILER ALERT: if you hadn't seen last night's special:
"I Love Lucy" was proclaimed the greatest TV show of all time. It was nice to
see Digest-er & OTR convention (FOTR, SPERDVAC, etc.) re-creation director
Gregg Oppenheimer representing his father Jess, the creator of "I Love Lucy"
& its radio forerunner "My Favorite Husband," and talking about "Lucy's"
historical and cultural significance.
Way to go, Gregg! This, in turn, reminded me of an incident in which a
co-worker asked me if a client named "Greg" spelled his name with one "G" or
two. I replied, "Two 'G's,' one in the front and one in the back." Said
co-worker remarked, "What I meant was if he used two 'G's' at the end on his
name." Another contentious butt-in-sky co-worker chimed in with words to the
effect of "Our Greg has one 'G' at the end. Nobody named Greg spells his name
with two 'G's."
I replied "Hmm, I have a friend named Gregg Oppenheimer who spells his name
with two 'G's' at the end. His father created this little TV show from the
1950s you might've heard of. ..." [Think of Dana Carvey's Church Lady "could
it be SATAN!" shtick] "What was the name of that little TV show Jess
Oppenheimer created? It's right on the tip of my tongue. Maybe you've heard
of ... I LOVE LUCY!"
Apologies from the ether for all the CAPITALIZATION in this posting,
Derek Tague

Subject: Yiddish radio on Bob Edwards Show
Folks;
Apologies for being so late on this (I'm running behind as [removed]).
Earlier this week on The Bob Edwards Show on [removed] satellite
radio, Bob interviewed Henry Sapoznik, an award winning Klezmer musician and
Yiddish expert whose collection of 1920s-60s Yiddish radio programs are being
archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. They
don't play as much as I wanted to hear, but it's an interesting interview
about a part of OTR that isn't generally discussed.
You can purchase the show on Audible, listen on-demand with an
Internet account (even a demo account) for the next few days, or drop me a
note if you want to hear it.
Charlie
