X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

WSM's Eddie Stubbs has just given me the sad news that Doc Williams has died
at age 96. Doc ann his band, the Border Riders, joined Wheeling WV's WWVA
Jamboree in 1937! Doc also owned Wheeling Records, starting out with 78s in
the mid 40s. "The Parlor Is A Pleasant Place To Sit In Sunday Night," recorded
by Doc with his late wife Chickie as vocalist, has opened and closed my
"Bluegrass Ramble" radio show since 1973.

Subject: Feb issue of RADIO RECALL

The February 2011 full-color issue of RADIO RECALL has just been
emailed to subscribers in PDF format. The black & white hard copy
will be mailed out in two weeks to the rest of our subscribers.

This issue leads off with Part I of the history of radio's horror
show from Oklahoma City station WKY which aired over NBC Red Network
in the 40s: "Dark Fantasy." The author is esteemed OTR historian,
Karl Schadow, whose second home in at the Library of Congress. A
second lengthy piece is sound engineer Fred Berney's observations on
the recent (and scary) Library of Congress report on the future of
audio files.

Lone Ranger fan Mark Bush writes a tribute to Fred Foy and repeats
Fred's favorite story about a blooper at WXYZ on "Challenge of the
Yukon" that ends with an actor saying: "Those eyes, that fur, those
[removed]'s my wife." The complete results of the awards
recently issued by the internet's "Radio Once More" are set forth in
this issue, including the selectees to the Hall of Fame, four of whom
are members of Metro Washington OTR Club.

Ryan Ellette, who has a reputation as a great OTR researcher, has an
article on the career of radio writer and cowboy singer, Gomer Cool.
David Menefee follows with a piece on the 1929 "mike fright" that
struck Hollywood performers trying to read a radio script live on the
air.

All this plus: letters to the editor, news of upcoming OTR
conventions, and a plea to locate lost recordings of silver screen
stars who were briefly on radio. Our back cover features a 1951
advertisement from Australian radio advertising two of America's top
comedies being aired with Australian actors: "My Friend Irma" and
"Chipper Malloy and Connie." Ian Grieve, our friend from "Down-Under"
who provided this ad to us, explains the mystery of the second titled
series.
