Subject: Erratum
In Digest #377, I wrote,
Someone sent me a 1931 Mystery Dial Code-O-Graph that was so corroded as
to be unreadable.
Well, that was a typo. The first Code-O-Graph was in 1941, a decade
later.

Subject: Where You Least Expect It Dept.
Reading The New Yorker Talk Of The Town for Dec. 5 I
found:
"Billy F. Gibbons, the lead guitarist of the Texas
trio ZZ Top, prefers to sleep on the floor when he
stays in a hotel. Before he dozes off, he listens on
his laptop to old radio programs, such as "The Saint"
or "The Whistler." 'These antiquated sounds can pull
me out of my head,' Gibbons [removed]"
Someone should clue him in to Tales of the Texas
Rangers or maybe Topper.

In this week's New Yorker magazine (12-05-05) it says in part:
"Billy F. Gibbons, the lead guitarist of the Texas trio ZZ Top, prefers to
sleep on the floor when he stays in a hotel. Before he dozes off, he listens
on his laptop to old radio programs, such as "The Saint" or "The Whistler."

Subject: The Danvers Herald II
Last week's post about requests for radio memories from The Danvers Herald
nostalgia columnist generated a second column on the subject this week.
In it, the columnist discovers that OTR lives on in audio cassettes and on
the Internet.

This article on the Marx Brothers and Irving Brecher (of Life of Riley fame)
ran in this week's Jewish Journal.
It is an extensive interview with Brecher - who is 91 and still with us.

Well, if they're not going to issue a Jack Benny 39 cent stamp, they might
issue something that he'd appreciate just as well, like a two-cent stamp.

Subject: Radio related web sites
For a number of years I have maintained a list of links of radio related
web sites - sites that for the most part focus on radio drama, history,
clubs, commercial, etc.
Recently, I have updated the look and feel to give it a more "Google"
like appearance which I find very readable. The links I maintain have to
relate to radio and I try to keep them up to date as much as possible.
Given the life of some web sites, it is not an easy job.
I recently cleaned out every link that no longer seemed to exist and
currently have 571 links. There are many more out there than I could
ever keep up with unless I took it on a full time job! Considering that
my ten year old site has always been a labor of love and commercial
free, I have been forced to pursue life outside of my hobby! ;->
Anyway, if you know of other links that fit the bill, feel free to
contact me. The best way is via the main page of the links under the
"Add a link" section. The search function is pretty wide. If you type
in "mp3" for example, you will get a list of sites that feature in some
way, mp3 files.
I make no guarantee on the accuracy of the search results though I try
to review a site before I allow it into the database.

The 1980 edition of "Total Television" by Alex McNeil, doesn't list a show
under that name, and I doubt it existed. Wally Cox starred in two network
shows in the 1950s.
But those are both TV shows, and I figured the implication in his being
mentioned in the radio birthdays/deaths column was that "The Wally Cox Show" was on
the radio, not TV. Therefore "Total Television" wouldn't be the place to
look. I'm aware of Cox's TV work but had not heard anything about his being on
the radio (except maybe "Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts").
