Ok experts, was it Jack Benny or Fred Allen who coined the line "Batten,
Barton, Durstine & Osborn "sounded like a trunk falling down a flight of
stairs?" I always thought Allen but Stuart Elliott of The New York Times today
provides a dated citation - 11/21/48 - that says Jack Benny. I don't have my
Laura Leff book with me right now - does anyone know the answer?

That Dr. Jekyll with Kirk Douglas was partialy composed by Lionel Bart

What's fascinating, is that there's a scene towards the end, with Mr.
Hyde at a huge piano in a cemetary--
Very reminiscent, for whatever reasons, of a tableau in the much later
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA musical.
Interesting, because Andrew Lloud Webber, certainly would have seen the

I was wondering, if the flub
appeared in the east coast broadcast, did they try to repeat it for
the west coast, or did the folks in the west hear the script as

This was the 1/8/50 show, long after the show was being recorded for the
West Coast. And to anticipate the next question, most of Mary's classic
bloopers also started after the show was being recorded.

Hi Gang -
I recently saw the TV version of the Jack Benny Program featuring the
famous "Your Money or Your Life" routine. At the end of the program was
listed
the cast of characters. I am wondering who played the hold-up man.
Apparently it was one of these three actors:
Joseph Downey, Benny Rubin, or Harlan Warde (I know it was neither Lois
Corbett nor Joe Kearns).
I used to think that Sheldon Leonard played the part on the radio version,
but now I'm not so sure. If Leonard did not play the hold-up man on radio,
who did? One of the above?
