May I ask the List for their advice, please?(...reply off list, of course.)
It's not OTR related, except that - I do burn my own CD's on the Roxio Easy CD
Creator5 (ECDC). It's the Basic5 bundled in my new Gateway, not their full
service version. And, I'm running Windows XP, too, part of the Roxio problem
of Application Program Interface.

It now tells me "CreatorAPI cannot make a disc copy" And, it rejects blank
CD-R's. ...kerput! I do not have the CD-ROM to uninstall and install, I've
exhausted the tech guru on the discussion board, we can't fix the issue.

So, I thought the List might advise as you all have done so well, re: the MP3
postings recently.

What do you recommend as a "reliable" and stable CD Burner software and, if
you could add "why" you like it to make CD-R music disc, I'd really appreciate
the replies - off list. Thank you all.

Speaking of more recent radio dramas, I have also been seeking for

play. Anybody know about this one, or where I can obtain a copy?

John, the Earplay drama to which you refer is Wings by Arthur Kopit. The
story appeared on Earply in 1979 and Kopit revised it later into a
successful Broadway play about stroke and language disability.

It is a great story. I do have a copy I recorded off the air at the time of
its broadcast.

Just curious if anyone brings their kids to the
conventions? My boys are 11 and 15 and they'd love to
go since they are big OTR fans.

I'm hoping to bring my son, aged 13, providing
everything works out schedule-wise. He's wanting to
meet "Archie" and "Jughead" and "Rosemary" if they
will be there this year. Also hoping to bring a
friend along too.

Will be my first convention in several years, and
frankly, I've kind of been missing it.

Hope to see you all.

[removed] guess my mind wasn't working too well on that
previous post of mine! Not "Rosemary" .... but
"Betty" was what I meant to say, played, of course, by
Rosemary Rice. Oh well.

And, Hal, I'm really hoping you'll be there, as I'd
love to have the chance to meet you in person finally.

Take care, all.

It seems to me it was written by a Canadian, but I am not sure. I
vividly remember the story. She had a stroke and was trying to
communicate. No, I don't know where you can get a copy. Kurt

Please excuse if this information has already been posted. I just read of the
passing on January 13th of Phillip Crosby. He was the last surviving son from

Sad to hear of the death of old timer Bob Dryden. I worked wth him many
times over the years. I think he was on the TV show, Edge of Night on
which I was the audio engineer for a couple of years. Also while in radio
I was the engineer on "Casey, Crime Photographer" for a long time. Also
mentioned was Colonel H. Norman Schwartzkauf on Gangbusters who actually
had the rank of Colonel in the New Jersey State Police as I recall.

Hi Gang:

The passing of movie and stage dancer Ann Miller saddened me. I can't
think of any of her radio credentials--but I'm sure Ron Sayles can dig up a
couple.
My fondest memory of Ann Miller doesn't come from "Kiss Me, Kate" or
"Sugar Babies," but from the TV-ad for the Heinz Company's "Great American
Soup" she did for adman & OTR vet Stan Freberg. in the early 1970s. This ad
has often been cited as having had been the most expensive TV-commercial up
to that point as it featured Ann in a Busby Berkeley-type choreographed
production number with costumes, art deco sets, chorus girls, aerial shots,
and Ann dancing atop an eight-foot high soup can that rose from the floor.
The only reason I bring this up is because next week, we'll all be
subjected to expensive TV ads debuting during the Super Bowl. Can you imagine
what Pepsi and the other big companies could accomplish if they had the
foresight to hire the truly visionary Freberg and then let him have free rein
of the astronomical budgets they pour into such hucksterism?
I seriously doubt anybody can gauge what was the most expensive
commercial produced in the OTR era, but my guess would be that the
aformentioned Stan Freberg would be in the running with his six-and-a-half
minute mini-musical production of "Omaha!" for Butter-Nut Coffee would
definitely be in the running.
Also, does anybody know how Cole Porter got away with naming Ann
Miller's character in "Kiss Me, Kate," LOIS LANE? Did the Superman/DC people
get peeved?

"Ther I've said [removed] I'm glaaaaad!" (Cass Daley)

Yours/ether,

Derek Tague

Subject: Jack Benny's 20th Anniversary

I am listening for the first time to the CBS Radio Network Special
celebrating Jack's 20th year in radio. Does anyone know the original airdate
of this show (as I listen, it appears to be "sustaining", so I guess it
wouldn't be Sunday Night at 7). Also, didn't Milton Berle (The host of the
show) already have an exclusive contract with NBC by 1952? I realize he was
"loaned out from time to time, but I thought that was later on when his star
began to fade. Also, it seems that Berle was an unusal choice to be the host
(unless it was his position in the Friar's that determined it). Otherwise, I
would think George Burns, or Bob Hope or even Amos and Andy would be more
likely choices to host.

Any other information on this particular program would be appreciated.

Joe Postove
