Hi,
I have been watching reruns of Gunsmoke on TV. I know a number of actors who
appeared on Radio version, also appeared in the TV series. Actors like Parley
Baer, Howard McNear, John Dehner, Vic Perrin, Howard Culver, Harry Bartell,
just to name a few. I know that even Bill Conrad directed one of the shows. My
question is, did Georgia Ellis ever appear on the TV show??

The cartoonist for the "Lum and Abner" strip (that's me, folks) was
interviewed by KGAS Radio of Carthage, Texas on June 27. The two-minute
report is available online at
[removed] and also
at the NLAS website, [removed]. The fifth installment of
"Lum and Abner" will be published Sunday, July 3 at
[removed] The project needs sponsors to
continue, so if anyone wishes to encourage businesses to take a look at
advertising, or if you'd like to approach local newspaper editors about
carrying the printed version, all help will be appreciated. As you probably
realize, we are not working through a newspaper syndicate on this. Thanks
folks!

Recently upon listening to some old "CBS Radio Mystery Theater" shows from
the 1970s, I heard a newscaster named John Wingate and even one of his
"Wingate News Digest" newscasts from WOR, New York. Some research revealed
he
had a career dating back to the late 1940s, and fell on some hard times in
the late 1970s and 1980s. But my research loses track of him in 1989,
when he was 68 and broke. Anyone know whatever happened to him?

Subject: Two migrants named Amos and Andy
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain
I've just finished the best nonfiction book I've read in a long time: "The
Warmth of Other Suns," which details what author Isabel Wilkerson calls the
Great Migration -- the influx of black people from the South to the North and
West from 1915 to the 1970s. Although she lists the names of many famous
migrants -- from James Baldwin to Oprah Winfrey -- she omits two of the most
famous of all: Amos and Andy. If I have my radio history right, A&A worked on
a farm near Atlanta before moving to Chicago and then Harlem. Surely, that
dynamic duo deserved a mention. Oh, wait ... they never actually existed.
Nonetheless, I think a paragraph or two about these fictional migrants who
brought so much laughter to so many people wouldn't have been out of place.
Wonderful book nonetheless.
