Folks;
Issues have been a little irratic again this [removed] another hard
drive to hard failure (yeah, it's getting a little old). This did NOT
directly impact mail, everything was received and stored; it did inhibit my
ability to actually get to the list server from here, though (or any other
email, which I am only now slowly catching up on).
Everything's now back to "normal," whatever the heck that is.

The news is that a lengthy three-part video interview with Fred Foy,
recorded last year, is now available from the Archive of American

I want to thank you, Michael Biel, for your elaboration on the similarities
between Alec Templeton (whom, I must admit, I have never heard) and Victor
Borge and especially for sharing your experiences with him with all of us.
I just got through watching all six parts of the Danish documentary to which
you provided a link and I was very touched, especially by part six which
turned me teary. One big mistake in part one, at least I think it's a
mistake. -- They state that he was very lucky in that he appeared on the Ed
Sullivan Show six months after he arrived in the US which was 1941. The
graphic was of the TV show with Sullivan and Borge in front of the curtain.
Could he have been on a Sullivan radio program?

Subject: Rich man, poor man
Does anyone remember a crime story, possibly a serialized story, that
involved the old counting rhyme, "Rich man, poor man, beggar-man thief,
doctor, lawyer, Indian chief", or a variation on it that begins, "Tinker,
Tailor, soldier, sailor, etc."? In it, someone is killing off victims in
the order dictated by the rhyme, and the sleuth, (or sleuths), finally
figures out the pattern and hunts down the deranged killer. There may have
even been more than one program that used this plot device. I remember
hearing it, but can't recall what program it appeared in.

Subject: Writers wanted
For 35 years, Nostalgia DIgest Magazine has been sharing memories and history
with its readers. Every issue features articles about life during the Golden
Age of entertainment (radio, movies, music, and more), written by those who
lived it and those who love it.
Well, we're looking to add to our stable of writers--and hopefully that's
where you come in. We pay upon publication and would be happy to hear any
story ideas you might have. To those who are unfamiliar with the Digest,
sample copies are available from us (and an ever-growing list of stores that
carry the Digest is available at
[removed]), which should give you a
feel for the scope and size of the pieces we run. Please contact us at the
address above for more information and thanks for your interest!
BTW, the new issue includes a cover story about Bob Hope, and articles about
The Goldbergs, "Quiet Please", the 1934 film "The Silver Streak," actor Peter
Lorre, the history of Soundies, TV's "Hollywood Palace," football magazines,
and more.
