    ADMINISTRIVIA:

Yep, it happened again; the server sent out a single message
instead of including it in the working digest issue. It's
been temporarily patched again, perm fix in the works (more
    once everything's finalized). --cfs3

Subject: Death of Glenn Miller

Dear list members,

I do remember that there were some postings on the death of Glenn Miller
last year. Unfortunately I didn't save the links that were included in
some of the posts. Is there anybody that could provide me with some
hints/links on this issue?

Thank you very much,

Christian

Means a short commercial announcement that follows the show, just before
the system cue. A Cow Catcher is one that precedes the official open of
a program.

Subject: Gunsmoke, out takes, biography and more!

I first want to thank everyone who has been so patient with all my
requests so far. Yes, I do have another one. I will give it to you
first and then give you a couple of quick thoughts on Gunsmoke. Does
anybody have, preferrably on MP3, the gunsmoke outtakes and the gunsmoke
biography. If you can help, please contact me off list. I have been
listening to some of the first shows in the series. These shows are more
relevant than you might think. John Mestin knew his psychology. His
characters were all interesting. He had gone so far that these
characters were really people you would know. Matt was what he seemed,
but obviously more. There was a back story that was only ever hinted at,
as far as I know. However, when Matt had done something he was not
satisfied with he tended to become a bit distracted and testy, as do we
all. We know that Chester's father beat his mother, a line given in a
throaway fashon. In listening to the buffalo Hunter, you might just
recognize one of your old employers. Well, Mestin fooled me a couple of
times, doing things for reasons that I didn't expect. He was a masterful
writer and his stories were so much more interesting than Norman
Macdonald's. When I was younger, I heard some of these shows, but
because I only heard a small number I had no idea how complex the
characters and story were. An interesting point. In two shows near the
begining, Matt was injured, something that may have happened later, but I
only have the one disk so I don't know. On KNX or whereever I heard the
shows he is never injured. To hear this show from near the beginning is
a revelation. To hear the stories about ethics, keeping promises even
when you didn't want to make them, those are the things that will keep
Gunsmoke up-to-date forever, as long as there are people to listen,
because those values do not go out of date. Well, that's my feeling.
For anybody who has not listened to a lot of this show, do it! You won't
be sorry. Thanks again for your patience and your time. Kurt
