Subject: The Lone Ranger Movie Revisited

I don't intend to rehash the criticisms of the recent Lone Ranger movie, but
those who have an interest in sound effects might find the following article
that details the work that went into the sounds for the Lone Ranger movie as
interesting as I did. Here is the link:

I realize that this is on the periphery of OTR, but hopefully Charlie will let
it pass.
Thank you!

I wish to thank Al Hubin for kis kind comments about me, and my wife's

as it is. My best to all of you, GL Mercer

Subject: Cinnamon Bear mystery ...

For years, I'd heard that the name of the actor who played Jimmy Barton was a
mystery. But Wikipedia (which I understand should ONLY be taken with a grain
of salt) now lists that his name was Tommy Carr. Was this a recent find, or
are we still unsure?

Thanks!

Bill Wilson

12/4

1932 ... Winchell kept that gossip show going on the radio for 23
years. It was sponsored at first by Jergens lotion and, later, by Dryad
deodorant, Kaiser Frazer cars and Richard Hudnut shampoo.

I remember seeing Winchell on television sponsored by Gruen watches.
This would be about 1953 or so.

Subject: Nostalgia Digest begins its 40th year!

The new Winter issue of Nostalgia Digest is back from the printer, and we can
testify that no other magazine on the racks this month has Bob and Ray on the
cover! You'll also find articles about Bea Benaderet, the films of Frank
Capra, the Xmas traditions of Marshall Field's, terpsichorean tough guy
George Raft and a special piece by Digest founder Chuck Schaden about the
very first issue of this publication, which he began in 1974! (Hint: it was
much smaller then.) Information is available at [removed].

Subject: Joseph Kearns and the Nostalgia Digest Podcast

Charlie's reprinting of Dennis Crow's piece about the Cinnamon Bear reminded
me that the brand-new Nostalgia Digest Podcast for December is devoted to the
Crazy Quilt Dragon, the Whistler, the Man in Black, the guard of Jack Benny's
[removed] and the man who played them all (and a few more besides), actor
Joseph Kearns! You can download it any time through iTunes or by visiting
[removed] you'll find a full year's
worth of our podcasts, including our recent conversations with Bob Elliott
and Joan Benny!

Jim Scancarelli is at it again! Another homage to the Jack Benny show
in this week's continuing strips of Gasoline Alley. The floorwalker
appears every few months (or is it only at Christmastime?).
