Subject: Dick Olday, RIP
The old-time radio community lost one of its long-time stalwarts on May 17th
with the death of Richard A. Olday at the age of 74 in his home-town of
Depew, NY. Dick was one of the linchpins of the Old Time Radio & Nostalgia
Club of Buffalo for decades. At the time of his death, he was serving in both
a membership officer capacity and as their internet radio [removed]
Dick attended OTR conventions on a regular basis for many years and his
booming laugh and pleasant personality were enjoyed by vintage radio fans
throughout the country. He was a kind and very generous collector who shared
whatever he had with others, often with no trade in mind.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Arlene, and their three children:
Michael, MIchelle, and David as well as six grandchildren. Funeral will be
held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lancaster, NY on Thursday, May
21st. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Roswell Park
Cancer Institute, Elm & Carlton Streets, Buffalo, NY 14263. Telephone
716-845-2300.
Cards of sympathy and support should be mailed to:

Subject: Lum and Abner Festival 2015
I wanted to let everyone know about this year's Lum and Abner Festival, June
5-6, in Mena, Arkansas. Sam Brown, Tim Hollis, and I have invited a couple of
special guests, and we'll be staging a National Lum and Abner Society
program, much as we did from 1985 to 2005!
Here's what's going on.
On Friday, June 5, I've been invited to perform a "Lum and Abner Cartoon
Sketching Show" in Janssen Park at 4:00 [removed] I'll talk about Lum and Abner,
my comic strip work, etc. and draw the characters.
On Saturday, June 6, we'll be joined by John Rose (cartoonist, "Barney Google
and Snuffy Smith") and Mike Curtis (writer, "Dick Tracy") at the Ouachita
Little Theater. We'll have a "meet and greet" at 12:30, and a program
starting at 1:00 [removed] John will draw cartoons, Mike and I will talk about the
crossover of the "Dick Tracy" and "Lum and Abner" comic strips of last
summer, and we'll all perform a brand new Old Time Radio "Lum and Abner"
script in which the old fellows meet Snuffy Smith (John Rose) and Dick Tracy
(Mike Curtis)!
And there is so much more happening with the Lum and Abner Festival.
Please visit our website and I'll have links to lots more info!

I hope you can join us this year!
Thank you!
