I'm having trouble finding a broadcast date on one episode of "Lights
Out" from OTR. The episode is entitled, "And Adam Begot", but I can't seem
to
locate it anywhere. Any help will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Kenneth Clarke

Hi,
I could be completely wrong about this, but the Dark Fantasy show "I am
your Brother" seems like an episode of Quiet Please. The use of music/sound,
the strong narrative, and the story itself seem to paralell what I've heard
of Quiet Please. I am not sure that this has been discussed before, but was
there a relationship between these shows or their authors?
thanks,
Jim

Here's Suspense on TV. Sounds just like the Radio Show. Same music, organ,
Autolite commercials. It was still on the radio at the time of this show.

From Those Were The Days --
10/5
1930 - The New York Philharmonic Orchestra was first heard on the air
over CBS from Carnegie Hall. The Sunday afternoon concerts set CBS back
$15,000. Not per week, but for the entire season!
While this might have been the first CBS network broadcast of the NY
Philharmonic, they had been broadcast weekly on WEAF as far back as 1922 or
23. In fact, Western Electric engineers used the audio feed of these
broadcasts for experimenting with electrical recording in 1923 and 24, some
of which still exist from as early as Dec 11, 1923. There is no announcing
recorded on any of the ones I have.
1947 - A small Northern California company got a major boost from Bing
Crosby. The first show recorded on tape was broadcast on ABC. 'Der
Bingle' was so popular, that his taped show promoted wide distribution
of the new magnetic tape recorders that would become broadcast classics
-- the venerable Ampex 200.
Although I previously had several different dates for this broadcast, it now
seems that it was Oct 1, 1947. While it was mastered and edited on tape
(recording date was August 10) the tape was dubbed to disc and aired from the
disc. Additionally, the recordings were made on Jack Mullen's reconstructed
AEG Magnetophons. The Ampex machines were not yet ready. The guests on the
program were Peggy Lee and Gary Cooper.

Frank McGurn, re Straight Arrow information:
The only copies I have of the show are very bad quality, so I cant help there.
I agree that the Bear Mania book on the show is well done and has lots of
good, and correct information. It was written by William Harper who has many
old scripts and has done much research. No, there is no web site.
I will be glad to try to answer questions for you, if I can, via email.

Several years ago Radiola Records released an LP that contained a
program called "The Magic Radio." It featured Fibber McGee & Molly.
Fibber had rigged a radio so that I could tune in shows from
yesteryear.
Anyone have any ideas what series this was from or where the recording
originated.
