I have a One Man's Family episode of book 055 chapter 08 Climax to a
Manhunt. I suspect is from around the summer of 1946 but would anyone know
of the correct date?

according to the very fine radio log compiled by ed titus for members of one
man's family family:
august 26 1945

peace from kathy

Subject: Martha Tilton

Rich Pratz noted the passing of Martha Tilton. I remember tuning into a
weekday afternoon series over CBS from 1949-54 in which the liltin' Miss
Tilton was paired with a popular male vocalist on "The Curt Massey-Martha
Tilton Show" for Alka-Seltzer. Before they left the air every afternoon
those songbirds warbled lyrics to a bouncy tune I memorized:

"We'll sing the old songs,
We'll sing the new,
We'll sing the bright songs
And maybe we'll sing the blues
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, too
For you ... for you ... for you!"

She had been a vocalist with both the Jimmy Dorsey and Benny Goodman outfits
in the big band epoch, was a regular on Your Hit Parade and a semi-regular
on The Railroad Hour in addition to other radio fare. She's accredited a
half-dozen times in my book "Music Radio" ([removed]).

Well, it's Christmas time again (where did 2006 go???), and I'm happy to
announce that once again, the Billie the Brownie Players (affiliated with
[removed], the Milwaukee Area Radio Enthusiasts), will be performing a Billie
the Brownie script on live radio. This is an important year for Billie, being
his 75th birthday (the show first appeared on Milwaukee radio in 1931, for
Schusters Department Store). In honor of the occasion, we have a brand new
script written by our own Carol Boettcher, who performs the part of Billie.
Also on hand are Ralph Luedtke, playing Larry Teich's part (Larry developed
the character of Billie from an idea of the Schuster's advertising team, and
wrote the scripts for the 23 years that Billie was on WTMJ radio in
Milwaukee), Ron Sayles, (yes, the same Ron who does the births and death lists
for this newsletter) as the announcer, and I will once again be performing the
part of Santa.
Both of our shows will be streamed over the internet. This
Sunday, December 17, we will be on David Doyle's program on WOKY, Milwaukee
([removed]) at 9 [removed] Central Time, and on Friday, December 22, we will be
on Ron Krause's program on WTKM, Hartford, WI ([removed]) at 10 [removed]
    We're
pretty proud of our shows. First of all, how many of us have actually had the
chance to perform live radio, just like in the good old days, complete with
sound effects. Also, Billie was a local program in the city of Milwaukee.
Over our three years, we are proud to report that we took Billie national two
years ago. On the call in show on WTKM, we got a call from the State of
Washington, thanks to this newsletter. Last year we went international, when
we got a call from Japan during the show. We have nowhere to go but up (I
wonder if they listen to the radio on the space station?)
    We hope that any
of you who have a memory of Billie, or if you only want to relive some of the
fun we experienced as kids way back when, will give us a listen this year.
Merry Christmas to all - God bless us, everyone.

Mark Higgins (Ho, Ho, Ho)

I think the comments on Proquest are correct.
We have access to Proquest through our local (Pratt) library. I have
found it difficult to use their search engine. Some time ago I wanted
to read the Superman comics from the late thirties. When I searched
Superman the only hits I got were for ads that ran prior to comic
starting. Too find the actual comics I had to view each comic page till
I found the one with Superman.

You were close Andrew. The correct date is August 26, 1945. What you
have is the first half of this 30 minute episode which is in general
[removed] unless of course it's the second half which would mean
you have come across the missing 15 minute portion of the show. Since
the typical recorded transcription would only be capable of capturing
around 15 minutes of a 30 minute program it took two transcriptions to
completely record a half hour. Finding only one half of a surviving
radio program when searching out transcriptions is not [removed]
Just ask Ed Carr.

HI, While looking at an old University Theatre broadcast I had on
cassette of "Huckleberry Finn," I thought of some questions. First
and foremost I must confess the tape was bought twenty years ago at
Toys R Us of all places. It's worn and I'd love to hear a coppy of
this again. My questions. Is the Dean Stockwell who played Huck the
Same Dean Stockwell who played in Quantum Leap years later? Also Jim
was played by Felix Nelson. Who was he? And finally anyone know
when this was broadcast? I'm convinced that Hal Gibney makes a cameo
besides being the anouncer of Pap Finn as well. Meanwhile I want to
take a quick second and thank the people who made me feel welcome on
Radio Out Of The past and to all of you I hope your holidays are
filled with lots of otr. Matt

Just saw an impressive film directed by William Conrad of "Gunsmoke"
fame.
The title is 'Brainstorm'. The print shown by the Library of Congress
was pristine and, as a bonus, Stacy Harris (Agent Taylor on "This Is Your
FBI") had a meaty role.
    Highly recommended.
