With regard to "morality" shows, the first one that comes to mind for me is
"Martian Death March" on either X-1 or Dimension X.

My good friend Chris Holm responded with some Science Fiction examples like
Martian Death March. That brings to mind one of my all time favorites -
Nightfall. It contrasts the disappearance of two suns with the return of
Christ/Armageddon/end of life on earth.

Subject: Campana Balm's Home Town

Russ Butler dredged up memories of Campana's Italian Balm which were fondly
received in that in my youth I often passed by the headquarters of the
Campana Company. However the venue assuredly was not Batavia, NY but rather
Batavia, Illinois (a suburb west of Chicago). The headquarters building was
a tower structure and certainly would date to the 1930s. It was (and I
assume still is) quite an art deco landmark.

Hello All:

Rick Keating wrote:

station, network or cable, in any of the years since

Well, Rick, the Green Hornet was only on for one season, 1966-67. That
means 39 episodes, tops. Stations and cable networks generally like 5 day a
week runs of old shows and don't like things that only provide 8 weeks of
programming before having to change programs or begin reruns. So shows that
only last one or two seasons usually don't make syndication.

BTW, I was 9-10 years old during the GH TV series and I do remember it. It
was hugely popular with 9 year old boys, I can testify to that, as I and all
my friends watched it religoiusly. Guess it didn't do too well in other
demographics.

One of the best, most heartbreaking, most human stories to appear on that
series, X Minus One, and if any aliens heard it, I don't think they would
want this species as neighbors. Note the jewish sound to the music, to
me it sounds kind of like the soundtrack to The Eternal Light. Kurt

Walden Hughes wonders where he can get the WVXU Documentary, Cincinnati:
The War Years.

Walden, that is a premium offered by station WVXU when you pledge as
member. However, you can check with Mike Martini, one of the producers, who
says contact him if interested:

Here is the web page for the CD: [removed]

And Mike is a member of this digest, but here is his email
address: mmartini@[removed]

You would be doing the producers a great favor if you purchased a copy as
it was not made on the cheap and is very well done.

Who knows, maybe you can get him to interview. He has a lot of knowledge of
Cincinnati radio.

Subject: Films starring Ernest Tubb

Dear Folks,

a friend of mine is looking for vintage films starring the musician
Ernest Tubb. He named "Fighting Buckaroo" (1943), "Jamboree" (1944),
"Riding West" (without year), and "Hollywood Barn Dance" (1947). Does
anybody from this list know how to get hold of video tapes/copies of
these movies? Any help will be appreciated! Please contact me off list.
Thank you very much.

Subject: Straight Arrow's Packy

Dear OTR Lovers;
Peace.
I thought my research on the NABISCO promotion, Straight Arrow, had ended!
Not so! I came across a song book for sale with music/words by the Happy
Chappies, Fred Howard and Nat Vincent. I believe Fred Howard of the
Chappies is none other than the Fred Howard that played Packy on Straight
Arrow! I compared the photo on the book cover with photos of Fred during
his Straight Arrow days and their is a similarity! Can I get some input
from anyone that knew or worked with Fred? To see the cover click here:

Subject: "false names"

Elizabeth Minney posted:

I was listening to a "Frontier Gentleman" episode called "The Preacher"
broadcast October 19, 1958 and was stopped cold when the announcer, Bud
Sewell, stated that the actors were Waldo Epperson, Richard Perkins,
and Ray Wood. WOW! The voices I had been hearing were those of Ralph
Moody, Parley Baer and Vic Perrin.

I know that Vic Perrin and Parley Baer used the aliases Richard Perkins and
Waldo Epperson a number of times on various shows. William Conrad used
"Julius Crowbine". I used to kid Parley and call him Waldo. I did ask him
why he used a fictious name but cannot remember his answer. Even Nelson
Olmsted used an alias on a series. He had forgotten all about it until I
gave him a tape of the show.

I imagine the reason had something to do with their contracts. Someone I'm
sure will shed more light on this. But it's always fun to discover these
little gems.
