Subject: Women in Radio - Followup
I mentioned that after I did a short presentation on Women in Radio at
the Western Heritage Center, they asked me to be their noon time
lecturer last week. It went well. It was a small crowd ("crowd" is a
bit of a hyperbole) but the level of interest was high.
I have a PowerPoint that I've added to and tweaked for 10-15 years as I
used parts of it in my classroom when I was teaching and have presented
at our state teacher's conference and our city library a number of
times. Depending on the crowd and the specific topic, I cover, timeline
stye, the development of the hardware and then branch into the broadcast
content up to 1962. I have lots of sound samples embedded and play as
many as I can. Last week I added a piece about learning about local
history through "found sounds" and went through my Paper Tapes archive
web site ([removed]) as an example. During Q&A many of the
questions had to do with what the future of radio might be.
The presentation was video taped and I'll try to get a copy and get it
online. Our local paper showed up and did a piece on it (a slow news day.)

As things tend to blossom, our weekly paper was there and will run a
story in their next issue. Then I get a call from our local CBS TV
station and they want to do a story about my finding all those paper
tapes years ago.
And my plan, last June, when I retired, was to slip into [removed]
