A blogger has a good article on Joyce at http:
[removed] - it should still
be on the first page.

I read the article. Thanks, [removed]

I've heard a few of Joyce's broadcasts on [removed] I agree he was
despicable. Before I read the blog you referred to, I assumed he was a
British-born traitor. It seems that he was, in fact, an American-born traitor
to
Britain who was tried, condemned to death, and executed under a technicality.
He deserved prosecution for various crimes - maybe for treason against
America,
since he continued broadcasting against the Allies throughout the war.
Anyhow, my question is: Did Joyce's German broadcasts cause the deaths or
injuries of any British soldiers or sailors - like causing convoys to sail
near
German submarines, or lure Army units into ambushes? If so, he deserved to be
prosecuted for those [removed] and maybe put to death for them.
I have no respect for him, and certainly not for his last "testament" before
he
was hanged at:
[removed]
... but I wonder if his prosecution could have been handled better.

X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

With the 5th anniversary of the death of Frances Langford coming up (July
11th) I thought I would pass along a somewhat unusual story of how I
happened to meet her.

I'm a State Trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol. Sometime back in
1985-88 I was working a midnight shift and about 3 am I was sent to a crash
on
private property in Jensen Beach, Fl. The crash occurred on a service road
that led up to the rear property of Ms Langford. I was familiar with her
movies and USO tours and the 'Bickersons' radio show with her and Don Ameche
so she certainly wasn't an unknown property owner to me.

I went to the scene first by way of Indian River Drive and found a rental
vehicle 'wrapped' around a tree by the dirt road. Some college kids on
spring break decided to see where the road led to and tried to test the speed
of
the vehicle as well. They went out of control on a curve and with the dirt
road managed to launch it into the tree. It was impossible for a wrecker
to hook up to the vehicle from the side the car was coming from so we would
have to approach it on the drive from the front of the house.

I went to Ms Langford's front door and knocked. Again this was early
morning. She comes to the door in robe and curlers and wants to know what I
want. I apologized for waking her and advised her of the crash and how we
needed her to unlock her front gate to access the scene from that way. She
advised me in no uncertain terms the car could just remain on the property as
the kids weren't supposed to be trespassing anyway. I told her she was correct
but I thought that Hertz might like to get their car back. She relented
and opened the gate for me and I assured her I would be responsible for
locking it back.

Anyway we get the wrecker to the car and hauled it off and I cited the
driver and that was the end of that.

Many times I thought of going back to her house at a 'reasonable' hour and
on the pretext of apologizing for waking her just let her know I loved her
movies and radio shows. Never did. That was an opportunity I kick myself
for missing.
