Subject: Suspense Episodes
An excellent book on Suspense is "Suspense Twenty Years of Thrills and
Chills by Martin Grams, Jr. with a forward by June Havoc. ISBN 1-57502-675-9.
It
lists all of the programs in order from Forcast #4 - The Lodger aired on July
22, 1940 which had Noreen Gammill, Edmund Gwenn, Joseph Kears, Herbert
Marshall, and Lurene and directed by Alfred Hitchcock to Episode 945. Also
gives
lots of background and a listing for the TV series.
It is about $30 new and $24 used. Amazon has it.

Hi All,
I recently learned of the existance of six episodes of Vic & Sade that are
missing from my collection. I found these plots on the David Goldin website.
Am hoping that someone here can provide them. Any format is okay. Will pay
or trade.
9/21/1942---Rush has a dear friend in horrible trouble. Smelly Clark has
broken his [removed] is in blackest despair.
9/28/1942---Sade has a funny story to tell, but Vic knows that Princess
Moon-On-The-River is really Lolita Di Rienzi
10/30/1942---The Lodge has offered Vic a part time job as "Traveling
Moderator". There's some travel involved and no pay for the first two years.
In fact, Vic has to pay eleven twelfths of his travel expenses!
12/29/1942---E. Tyson Stoogeer has been drummed out of the All-Star
Marching Team. They're planning to start their own marching team and march
for money!
4/13/1943---Out on the porch with Uncle Fletcher and Dottie Brainfeeble.
The story of the amazing Roy Dejectedly and his strange family.
5/4/1943---Chuck Brainfeeble visits Sade with a gross of "Little Leather
Ringmasters". He proposes to use them to repay his $40 debt to Vic, and
won't take no for an answer.
Thanks!

Subject: 1970's interviews of New Yorkers
Hello all. I just happened across this book, recently posted at Project
Gutenberg. It is copyrighted but may be freely redistributed. There are
100 interviews of somewhat famous New Yorkers listed including many
broadcasters and other radio people. One name that immediately jumped out
at me was Himan Brown. Others include Isaac Asimov and various other
actors and directors. The book is available both in plain text and
.rtf. Some of you might find it interesting.
[removed]
I'm not going to include the full contents here because it's a bit
long. The introduction is also interesting reading. The author got his
start as a secretary for a TV soap writer. If people would like to see
more of his interviews, you should write to him directly. He has
apparently more which haven't been released. He also interviewed many
older movie stars such as Geraldine Fitzgerald and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

Subject: Leave Us Face It
Just finished listening to the Duffy's Tavern episode where Deems Taylor narrates the "Symphonic"
version of "Leave Us Face It (We're In Love)". Funny stuff! I love comedy based on music, so
this was a treat for me, as was the earlier episode introducing the song. I actually own the
sheet music for the song so maybe I indirectly contributed to the "28 cents" of profit that Archie
claims to have collected from its sales when he was grilled on the subject by Eddie the Waiter.

Subject: Farewell Dave Holland
The most recent issue of Joe Southern's Lone Ranger Fan Club letter carries
the sad news of the passing of both Tom Gill and Dave Holland. Dave was the
author of "From Out of the Past: A Pictorial History of The Lone Ranger" and
one of the foremost authorities on the history of the character on radio and
TV. Anyone with serious interest in the Ranger should have a copy of this
book, which is still available at the website [removed]
according to Joe.
I met Dave at the 60th anniversary celebration of the Lone Ranger held at
Lone Pine, CA in June, 1993. Not only was he a great fan and driving force
in keep interest in the western genre alive, but a discerning Lone Ranger
aficionado. He confessed to me that his favorite episode in the series
wasn't the 30th anniversary program from January, 1953, but "The War Horse",
(April 18, 1952) , my favorite too, which doesn't even have a villain. It's
just the story of how the Ranger and Tonto help a young boy win a horse race
with a supposedly used-up cavalry horse. It was adapted for a 15-minute
episode on Decca records as well, and never fails to bring a tear to my eye
when I hear it. Rest in peace, Dave.

Subject: 39 cent stamp
This might have been addressed earlier, but I heard an ad on KQV radio in
Pittsburgh campaigning for the Jack Benny stamp. KQV runs an OTR show. I
thought of Ms Leff, Jack Benny's greatest champion, and wondered if the spot
was run for a reduced rate.
In any case, I really hope the effort is successful. The man deserves a
stamp.

I'm amazed that NBC was able to boil the Goons down to three sides of a 3 x
5 card. It usually takes me the better part of three screens of email to
even get the personalities described.
NBC began airing the half-hour BBC show on October 20, 1955, Thursdays at
8:30. After the >show of November 10 there was a break, and the broadcasts
resumed on December 29 at the >same day and time. The last show was on July

According to the Goon Show site [removed]
([removed])
Series 5 consisted of 26 shows running (in Britain) from 28 Sep 1954 to 22
Mar 1955. It's possible that they also picked up some episodes of Series 6
(which was 27 episodes long from 20 Sep 1955 to 20 Mar 1956, but with some
disruption due to a musicians' strike in Britain).
[removed]
Of course, one wonders what they did during the hiatus from March to
September 1955 ...
