Hi, everyone. There's a nice ode to Fred Allen and his legacy in this week's
Weekly Standard. [removed]

I've been listening to a few Fred Allen shows lately and there's a question
that has always bothered me. Maybe I just don't understand how the ratings
worked back in the day. But if I recall correctly, Allen's show received very
good ratings for several years, up until its legendary drop opposite Stop the
Music. My question maybe is twofold: First, is the story really that simple
or were there multiple factors that led to his quick ratings decline? Second,
if the show was so popular for so long, why wouldn't the network simply move
it to another time where it faced less competition and could hold on to more

Damon,

Thanks for the pointers to the OTR stations on iTunes I hadn't thought to
look for them there. Cool! I really appreciate you sharing that.

Radiolab has done a piece on Candid Camera. At the beginning there is a
fair amount of time devoted to Funt's experience in the AFRS and the
development of Candid Microphone. It's presented in an entertaining way.
