The Washington Post is not the only media outlet to be confused about the
beginnings of the Green Hornet. The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has a
two-page spread on the new GH movie, that states it's based on "the classic
comic book". You think these folks are too proud to check Wikipedia?

In fact, Wikipedia tells me that the Green Hornet ran in comic books during
the
1940s, that there was a brief tie-in with the 1960s TV series, and that NOW
Comics revived the Green Hornet in a comic book starting in 1989, with writers
who were certainly aware of the radio series.

Alan asked recently about an episode of The Jack Benny Show in which Jack
boxes with Rochester.

There is an episode of The Jack Benny Show in which he is preparing for his
boxing match with Fred Allen in which he has Rochester as a sparring
partner.

It's in line with the usual Jack Benny character. When they fight fair he
is losing so he cheap shots Rochester, making a joke about how "Rochester is
going to get a black eye," to which Eddie Anderson replied "You'll have to
peel me to prove it."

I've got my copies of "39 Forever" vol1 and vol2 by Laura Leff here in front
of me but can't find the specific episode immediately so I'm working from
memory.

As far as it "sparking an outcry," I hadn't heard that but it wouldn't
surprise me.

Hi Folks.
I noticed a few postings recently praising BBC Radio drama. Yes, we are very
lucky on this side of the pond that the BBC still does radio drama on a daily
basis. If its possible to download BBC Radio 4 via the net in the US, they
had an excellent supernatural thriller on the other night called 'Bad
Memories'. Definately worth a listen for those of you, like myself, who find
ghost stories great on the radio.
As an example of what the BBC still does, Gillian Reynolds wrote in London's
Daily Telegraph last week that in September 2011 BBC Radio 4 will be
broadcasting a drama about the Second World War on the Eastern Front in
Russia. It will be 8 hours long, and will be spread over the whole week. This
sounds like a 'must listen' ... !
Cheers ! Graeme

Subject: Jinny Tiu?

Does anyone remember this child prodigy of the 50s?

She performed on so many variety shows in the 50s, then disappeared.

I did a google search on her and it shows that she has performed in Waikiki
at some sheraton Hotels, but not much else is available.

She seemed so very gifted.

I would love to know what happened to her as the years went on.

thanks
