Subject: Miss Pinkerton

Kenneth Clarke asks:

Now a question: Who was known as "Miss Pinkerton"? In "Private
Eyelashes" by Jack French, two women's names are listed. One is Mary
Vance, the other is Hilda Adams. Which one was character on the OTR
program?

The answer, I believe, is Mary Vance. I got a Radio Recorders
transcription of the audition show for this series a few weeks ago, so I
just listened to it recently. According to what I've read, the audition
is the only surviving/circulating episode of the series.

Subject: Speed Gibson -- ISP, Where Was Thy Sting?

JLF notes,

Another great serial for kids (and adults) is
"Speed Gibson" and is readily available.

Speed Gibson was aired in a more innocent time, where an organization
like the International Secret Police didn't sound rather threatening.

I loved the opening -- the drone of an aircraft, and someone
transmitting, "Ceiling zero!" several times. I was waiting for the sound
of a crash, but none was heard.

One thing that bothered me, though, was that one of the major characters
was killed rather thoroughly, though offstage (it /was/ a kid's show,
after all). Some weeks later, the character reappeared, clearly no longer
dead, but no explanation was ever given as to what happened.

It's with a saddness that I hear of the passing of Irving Brecher, the creator
of the "The Life of Riley" the show upon which I spent several seasons playing
"Junior Riley." It was through Mr. Brecher I had the opportunity to meet
Groucho Marx. I met his brother, Chico, through my family who happened to buy
a used car from him, if you can believe. Small world isn't it?

I attempted to reseach my photos trying to find a picture I might have had of
him during the days of "Riley", but with no success. I'll keep looking.

Regards,

Conrad Binyon

I just wanted to send a big thanks to everyone who helped me (both on
and off list) find shows to listen to with my son. We've just started
Cinnamon Bear and are enjoying it quite a bit.

We were delighted that the bear sounds like he is voiced by the same
person who portrayed Major Mike in our favorite show, Jerry of the
Circus. One person who wrote to me said that there was speculation that
Jimmy in Cinnamon Bear also played Jerry, but my son and I think Jimmy
sounds more like one of the school boys (I can't recall his name off
hand; he was a friend of Jerry who got lots of demerits) from Jerry at
Fairoaks.

I really appreciate all the suggestions. These will keep us going for
many months to come!

Subject: Easy Money

Frank McGurn asks about this 1940 series.

According to Jay Hickerson's "Utlimate History" (one of my OTR
bibles) "Easy Money" was a dramatic series exposing rackets preying
on unsuspecting people was an NBC program that only ran from 1-12-46
to 9-13-46. No copies survive.

NBC used the title again, this time in a mystery show, that ran from
10-3-54 to 6-5-55, and five copies of the latter have survived.
