Subject: LDS President Passes

Note - the passing of a religious leader is does not
usually qualify as a subject for old-time radio, but
this is, I believe, an exception because of the
person's connection with radio from the 1930s onward.

Gordon B. Hinckley, 15th President of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon), died at
age 97 in Salt Lake City at 7 PM Sunday evening. While
he was known more for his spiritual leadership
activities, he began employment around 1935 in the LDS
Church radio and publications department. Over the
years, he wrote and produced many programs that were
heard over station KSL, as well as many other stations
via syndication. President Hinckley also wrote and
produced print and film presentations for the church.
He also worked with Bonneville International, the
church's media arm.

This is a message about the Dennis Day Show (not A Day in the Life of Dennis
Day). There was a radio show on the air called Dennis Day Show from Sep 19
1954 to March 13 1955. Does anyone know if it was composed of original
episodes or if it was a soundtrack from the previously broadcast TV show
called Dennis Day Show which aired from Feb through August 1954?

Subject: The First "The Second Mrs. Burton"

Dennis Crow advises us of an interview of Sharon
Douglas and her son, regarding her work. Between six
months and a year ago, Frank Bresee interviewed Ms.
Douglas for his satellite program on the Yesterday USA
site. I do not know if it has been aired yet, and I
do not know whether Frank, or his co-host, Walden
Hughes, would entertain requests to repeat a given
broadcast. You might want to ask them, and that would
be easy because Walden subscribes and contributes to
this Digest.

I will say that both Frank Bresee and Walden Hughes do
excellent interviews of people who were performers.
You should not miss them. The interviews are very
professional. Clips of the artists' work are also
included.

While we're on the subject of "The Second Mrs.
Burton", it seemed to me and others that the writer
was considered much more important than anyone else on
the show because that tongue twister, Hector Chevigny,
got daily credit in the second line of the
introduction. I am not the first one to be aware of
this. I believe I read a comment about this in one of
the books, possibly one by Jim Cox. Who knew what the
pecking order was? On "Portia Faces Life", I remember
that the lead actress, Lucille Wall, received daily
billing in the introduction.

Signed the contract today. You can start making your hotel
reservations. Remember to ask for Betty when you call.
Cincinnati North is the new name of the hotel. [removed]
As I said before I've been assured you will have a clean room
and towels by the new people at the hotel. If you had a bad
experience last year give the new owners a chance. It will
help them and the convention. I need to to meet the
required room rental nights, or we won't be able to continue
with the convention.
They did get the door fixed to the dealers room. No need to
nail a 2 x 4 across the door to secure the room.
Make your plans to attend this year. April 11, 12. In
the past many come on Thursday to get a early start.
As many of you know nothing is planned, so you will
have plenty of to visit with old friends, and make some
]new ones.
The dealers room will be open sometime Thursday after 6:00.
If nothing is going on in that room Thursday it could be
 open earlier.
  Bob Burchett

Subject: Question about Infornation Please

Earlier this month on Jeopardy, there was an audio clue on Jeopardy in which
they played a clip from the radio show 'Information Please'. The clue was
something like 'This radio show was later made into an encyclopedia.' I'm
proud to say that I got the question right.

I don't have the right to question Jeopardy, but I use to buy he
"Information Please Almanac" Is an almanac the same as an encyclopedia ?
I don't think so.

According to Marion Webster:
Almanac: 1 *:* a publication containing astronomical and meteorological
data for a given year and often including a miscellany of other information

encyclopedia: *:* a work that contains information on all branches of
knowledge or treats comprehensively a particular branch of knowledge usually
in articles arranged
alphabetically often by subject.
