I know this is a stretch for Old Time Radio, but just received the Ellery
Queen
70's TV Show on DVD. When I watched the pilot episode, guess who is in it as
an announcer, but Harry VonZell. What a great surprise, but sadly not
credited,
what a shame. Just if anybody wants to rent this.

Jim Hilliker asked: I sometimes hear the "Music and the Spoken Word"
broadcasts
from
the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on KNX-1070 from 5:30 to 6 am on Sundays. Is
this the oldest network radio broadcast still on the air? How far in
advance is each week's show recorded? Also, how many CBS affiliates carry
this broadcast?
According to Wikipedia, Music and the Spoken Word has been broadcasting since
July 15, 1929. The 7th Day Adventist broadcast Voice of Prophecy goes back
nearly as long, to October 19, 2919, but there have been some name changes
along
the way --- the title used now originated in 1937 or '41, depending on which
article you read. The fundamentalist Radio Bible Hour dates back to 1935, and
the Lutheran Hour goes back to 1930. The Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts began
in
1931, and I wonder if other opera or orchestra performance series might be
just
as old, but not on a national basis. The oldest continuous news broadcast
that I
could find on Wikipedia was the CBS World News Roundup, going since 1938.
