I have three undated Ted Lewis shows on my web site:

These were recorded on a home recorder live.

I was able to get copies of those 7 Truth or Consequences shows

Michael Berger quotes Slate:
". . .The supposed panic was so tiny as to be practically immeasurable
on the
night of the broadcast. Despite repeated assertions to the contrary in
the PBS and NPR programs, almost nobody was fooled by Welles' [removed]"
This still did not seem to stop the relatively new Federal
Communications Commission and Congress from wanting to punish CBS and or
change certain rules for networks. So it must have been a big enough
impact to bring it to their attention despite what Slate implies.

Michael Berger posted about the article in the Slate debunking the WOW
hysteria myth.
Thanks for this link Michael.
Another thing I wondered about in the PBS program - Peter Bogdanovich.
What was his connection to the event? The manner in which he was
presented seemed to indicate that he had some knowledge or connection to
the event or the people. Yet I see from a wiki article that he was not
born until a year after the broadcast took place. Anything he reports is
not first hand experience. So why him? Why not someone who lived thru
the event?
Another one of life's mysteries.

Subject: Percentage of US households with radios in 1938

Perhaps like many OTR subscribers, I watched the American Experience
documentary on the War of the Worlds. During the course of the program, it was
stated as fact that 80% of American households had radios in 1938. I seem to
recall a previous discussion in this forum that spoke about a far lower number
of households that had radios at that time. I seem to recall a figure closer
to 20%. Does anyone have figures on how many US households had radios in 1938
or other years for that matter? Thanks.
