I've often heard the story of how Bing Crosby encouraged ABC to use magnetic
tape to prerecord his shows, and that led others to follow the same route.
But how were his shows pre-tape recorded? On large glass disks? On wire?
Oh, and by the way, magnetic tape didn't just "come along;" it was developed
by the Germans during WW2 and we profited from taking it, along with their
rocket scientists :)

I would love to get copies of this program. I remember listening to
it as a child. Anyway you could just send it over the Internet using
something like Dropbox, Pcloud or sendthisfile.
-) The Eternal Light. 719 episodes.

Subject: The Glowing Dial LIVE and Halloween Shows
Hello friends,
First I'd like to announce that The Glowing Dial LIVE will have its inaugural
broadcast this Sunday, October 16 at 4pm-7pm Eastern.
This show is an extension of my usual tri-weekly podcast, The Glowing Dial.
The podcast can be heard at my site [removed] as well as
at Jerry Haendiges' Olde Tyme Radio Network which can be found at
[removed] .
We'll have a new episode premiering also on Sunday October 16th. I'll send an
announcement that day with show details.
Now to The Glowing Dial LIVE. The blurb below will explain it all. Sorry for
duplication of information, it's late and I wanna go to bed ;-)
The Glowing Dial LIVE with Big John and Company!
This will be an extension of our ongoing tri-weekly podcasts which will
continue as usual.
With the LIVE show, we hope to be able to take calls from you, our listeners!
You can call in (one at a time for now) via SKYPE and talk with us and even
request old time radio shows!
If we have the show at hand, we'll play it for you almost immediately!
There will also be a chat room active during the show so you can chat with us!
You'll have to go to [removed] to access the chat room.
Our LIVE episodes will be archived on our "Showreel" page at Mixlr as well as
at The Glowing Dial Page.
It's free to sign up at Mixlr, so no worries there.
The Glowing Dial LIVE will be airing on Sundays, twice a month, from 4pm to
7pm EST.
You will be able to hear the show LIVE at The Glowing Dial Page, using the
embedded player on our "Shows" section of the page.

for updates and show dates!
The PREMIERE episode of The Glowing Dial LIVE will be Sunday, October 16 from

SKYPE into the show and talk OTR and Nostalgia with us and even request a
show!
Our SKYPE account name is: The Glowing Dial LIVE
Be sure to make us one of your regular contacts!
Please do not call outside of show times and please wait until we "open the
Skype lines" before calling.
Other LIVE episodes will be:
October 30th, 2016 4-7pm EST (our Halloween show -- should be fun)
November 13, 2016 4-7 pm EST
November 27, 2016 4-7 pm EST
December 11, 2016 4-7 pm EST
December 25, 2016 4-7 pm EST (our Christmas show -- Yuletide cheer for all)
Broadcast dates for 2017 to be announced very soon!
That's all for now. Hope like heck this all comes out readable when I convert
it to plain text.
John W. Matthews
PS - I am hoping to get some nice interviews (for the LIVE show) with some of
you knowledgeable people out there in our OTR community.
If anyone (especially Martin Grams, Jr.) would like to do an interview with
us, please contact me off-list at glowingdial@[removed] .
I plan to do these interviews Live on air via Skype.
PPS - Oh yeah, about Halloween shows. First off, our LIVE show of October
30th will be celebrating Halloween and the 78th anniversary of War Of The
Worlds as
presented by Orson Welles and The Mercury Theatre. We'll have our usual LIVE
show, then I'll be playing our 2003 tribute to said scarefest and that will
start around 7:30pm Eastern.
I have planned the start time so that WOTW will start at exactly 8pm Eastern.
Sit back for the evening and listen to radio history.
Now as for other suggestions for great Halloween OTR,
Suspense - Fugue In C Minor with Vincent Price and Ida Lupino
Suspense - The House In Cyprus Canyon with Robert Taylor and Cathy Lewis
The Mercury Summer Theatre Of The Air - The Hitchhiker with Orson Welles and
Alice Frost
The Hall Of Fantasy - The Shadow People with Richard Thorne (listen to this
one in the dark)
from Arch Oboler's Drop Dead album, "The Dark" and "Chicken Heart" (remakes
of 2 classic Lights Out stories no longer available)
There ya go. See you on the radio!
John
