This Week's Classics & Curios Show:

"Echoes of Songs and Laughter"

Episode 159

EDDIE HUBBARD'S "SWEET SONGS"

Time for an Eddie Hubbard Special featuring recordings of "sweet" songs.
Among my favorites are "Candy" by Johnny Mercer and the Pied Pipers,
"Sweethearts on Parade" by Kenny Gardner and Guy Lombardo, "Sugar Time"
by the McGuire Sisters, "When My Sugar Walks Down the Street" by Nat
King Cole, "Sugar Blues" by Clyde McCoy, and "Candy Kisses" by Tony Bennett.

My very top favorite on this Special is "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Bing
Crosby who had recently joined the Isham Jones orchestra in 1932. This
recording features Bing early in his career doing some "sweet" scat
singing as he captures the song's wonderful rhythm and jazz joy.

Along the way Eddie tells the story behind Carmen Lombardo's composition
of "Sweethearts on Parade." And the show ends with a news report from
November 15, 1989.

All in all, it is indeed a "sweet" time as we hear one of the greatest
DJ's in the history of radio.

Special thanks to Jerry Haendiges Productions for expert remastering of
the original Eddie Hubbard studio tapes. .

I recently listened to all 130 episodes of the radio serial "Magic Island".
I would listen to the shows whenever I was in the car. I enjoyed the serial.
Went searching for more shows like this. Found "Moon Over Africa". This
show only has 26 episodes. And, I am grateful for that as I did not care too
much for it. Are there any more serials such as "Magic Island" available?

Folks;

As those of you who read my Nostalgic Rumblings blog at
[removed] know (and I thank you both), I recently had a
pocket watch made in the style of the XM Satellite Radio studio clock,
designed and manufactured before the merger with the original XM logo. This
got me to [removed] there any photographs of studio clocks from the OTR
era? Were they just clocks, or were they stylized with network logos or other
graphics?
