Subject: Fibber's laundry comes back in 1944
Hello, does anyone know the joke behind Fibber and Molly's laundry coming
back in January 1944? I don't know why the audience laughed at the jokes.
Thanks a lot.

When i read the various mail on the Digest I am supprised to learn that
may of the contributers to OTR Digest are authors of Books that have to do
with OTR. I being new to the digest would be pleased to know the titles of
these books I love to read. I am at the library several times a month
looking for reading material.
Possibly you authors could supply a list of you books so I could look for
them at our libary.

Early last year I purchased at Walmart a Durabrand radio that plays all my
OTR MP3 disc's for $[removed] I have a Sony radio/MP3 boombox that plays about
75% of them and it cost $[removed] Some of my disc's have between 100-125 shows
on them and they all play with no problem on the Durabrand.
I too have a newer (blue) Walmart Durabrand radio. I also had the older
(grey) model. Both play all the MP3 recordings I have. The new player is a
much better unit with a nice tone and loud volume if necessary. The only
problem I had was battery consumption. The old unit went through six D
cells in about 12 hours. I bought a 110 volt converter that plugs into the
cigarette lighter and keep that in the car. I never tested the new radio on
batteries, but assume it would be similar. I also carry an extension cord
so I can plug it in wherever I am visiting and place it along the side of
the bed.
The only negatives are the player plays things in DOS short filename order
(not Windows long filename order) so some programs get out of sequence, and
the display has a very bright blue light. I cover the display to hide the
light at night.
I don't recall when I bought the newer player but it is probably 15-18
months old. I never turn it off. It stays on in pause during the day and
plays all night. This radio has about 4,000 hours of MP3 playing on it. If
you turn the unit off or switch to the radio function, it will not remember
where it was on the CD or MP3 disc. I have one CD with 180+ programs on it
that plays fine on the Durabrand players.
Finding these in the stores is catch as catch can. It is often out of
stock. It is no longer on their website. The radio was supplied by Lenoxx
Electronics Corp. and their website is gone, so they may be out of
production or out of business. The model # is Cd-2086. It's made by
somebody in China, so there may be an alternate source. Now I wish I had a

I find many of the MP3 players will not play typical OTR data rates. I
carry a CD to test them when going to the store. They will all play the
high quality rates the kids use for their music, but the lower rates get
neglected.

I don't know if it counts as a "radio appearance" but I have one of those

Subject: date of Bob Hope show
I was listening to a Bob Hope show and want to know it's broadcast
date. The show was from Cleveland, with lots of local and Ohio
references. He mentions the Ohio Sesquicentennial Which would have
been 1953 , he also makes references to "the Lost Weekend" and [removed]
Fields which would place it in the late 40's. It was sponsored by
Pepsodent, and featured Gov. Frank Lausche in a skit, this was no
help since Pepsodent was Hope's sponser until 53 and Lausche was
Gov. until 59.
Thanks in advance
