Hello digesters,
I am researching the history of the United Way. During the
old time radio era, the United Way was known as the Community Chest (Red
Feather campaign) and I'm trying to track down a a syndicated series from 1946
called "The Adventures of the Red Feather Man". OTR researchers group and
Goldin list about a dozen shows in existence. Does anyone know where I can
obtain copies?
Cheers,
Ivan

Thanks to the actors who joined me: Sam Brown, Tim Hollis, Daron McDaniel,
and Kyle Cage. Our music is composed and performed by the talented Marc
Ridgeway.
I hope you all will have fun with it too!

...your smart phone is filled with episodes of Gunsmoke.
...you have a large amount of shelf space dedicated to radio transcriptions.
...you feel justified to see on TV that the Lone Ranger movie fell far
short of its anticipated box office when it failed to break $30 million
on opening weekend. Hopefully this means they won't try this again.

My pal Michael Leannah posted::
You know you're really a lover of Old Time Radio [removed]
to which I add:
-- you actually pay money to see badly reviewed movie versions of the
Shadow, the Green Hornet, and the Lone Ranger just because of their OTR
connections even though you know you'll be disappointed;
-- you have BearManor Media's website added to your "Favorites";
-- you acquire an OTR-themed book and the first thing you do is peruse the
Acknowledgments and Bibliography just to see how many people from the hobby
you actually know;
-- you refer to arguing couples you know as "the Bickersons";
-- your wallet contains a folded-up piece of paper with "The Lone Ranger's
Creed" thereupon;
-- the only reason you buy now-marginalized, rarely advertised, second-tier
brands like Barbasol, Oxydol, and Horlick's is because of their OTR pedigree;
-- you can't listen to a "Shadow Traffic" report without thinking of Lamont
Cranston;
-- you actually use outdated OTR-era pronunciations such as "PROH-tee-in"
(protein), "AV-ee-ay-tor" (aviator), a "hard G" for "Los Angeles," and
"MUR-seh-deez" (rather than her post-Oscar win version, "mur- SAY-deez") for
"Mercedes McCambridge";
-- you use 1930s trade paper terms like "ether" to refer to radio;
-- you need to collect yourself upon hearing the names "Bob and Ray" and
realize that "Elliott and Goulding" are being referred to and not the
venerable OTR convention S-FX team of "Robert Mott and Ray Erlenborn";
-- you spell the word "television" as "t--------n" replete with the
Victorian-era styled dashes as if it were a dirty word;
-- you cannot watch a "Gunsmoke" or "Dragnet" rerun without thinking "the
radio version was better!";
-- you're actually getting excited about the upcoming 75th anniversary of
"WOTW";
-- you cannot envision that there will not be an OTR-themed convention
happening near Newark Airport this October.
Yours in 1930s trade paper terms,
Derek Tague

Subject: Lone Ranger Movie
Having read all the comments on the new Lone Ranger movie, I thought I'd
share an item I heard on an NPR or PRI program last week regarding the
film industry. What drives current movies is the fact that more money
is made from showing the movies in China and Russia than in the US.
Movie studios make movies which they think will appeal to those
audiences. This means large, spectacular visual effects and little or no
plot nuances. Or, as a friend of mine commented on the latest Star Trek
movies, they took out all the intellectual drama that was the hallmark
of Star Trek and replaced it with a lot of explosions.
Unfortunately, that's the film industry now, and most films conform.
