CBS Sunday Morning had a brief story this morning about the new Lone
Ranger [removed] discussing the history of the character they got it
mostly wrong, what a surprise. Brace Beamer played the role on radio
thru most of the Depression. I would have said it [removed]

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Theo, otherwise known as
Gary Hart has passed away, due to complications with Pneumonia. He was only
73 years old.

He had many friends in the OTR community. His collection of shows
and his knowledge will be sorely missed. He was a member of otrplus since
2007, and was a long time member of The Cobalt Club. He was a founding
member of some of the early Yahoo groups in 1999 & 2000 and was a major
leader in helping to promote the rebirth of OTR to many of it's current fans.
His contributions were many and his knowledge will be missed. It was through
his efforts that the collections of I Love A Mystery, Our Miss Brooks, and
Richard Diamond sound as good as they do currently.

Gary was an avid OTR collector for many years, and I had the privilege of
being an OTR friend for about a dozen years now.

We spoke on the phone about 2-3 times per month as well as conversed by emails.

Gary was originally from California and moved to Canada many years ago,
choosing to live in Burnaby, British Columbia. He has been cremated and has
been returned to California to be buried with the rest of his family.

Best regards

Art

Subject: I saw the Lone Ranger movie

I was hoping for the best but overall I must say I was disappointed.

If you don't want to know stop reading now.

In general, I personally felt that the subject was not treated with the
respect I would have hoped for. Too humorous a treatment of the
characters, even a travesty IMO. Normal people will probably find it
cute and entertaining, and to be sure there are some genuinely humorous
moments. There is no reason the Ranger and Tonto could not have enjoyed
a humorous moment among themselves. I wouldn't normally go see it again
myself and personally, I hope they don't make anymore.

 recordings on tape

IF anyone can help with this that would be great.

Does anyone live near
Detroit and interested in helping acquire some old radio that was thought to
be lost forever?

The Detroit public library has a large collection of Ernie
Harwell cassettes and reel to reel tapes.
They do allow copies to be made but
unfortunately I do NOT live near Detroit. Am looking for a volunteer to copy
them.

The Detroit Library has among others:
on cassette
1956 Colts vs Rams
1940 World Series game 1 (Partial)
9-20-58 Orioles vs Yanks (Wilhelm
no-hitter)
1946 Playoff games 1-2 (partial)
Nashville vs Atlanta 6-11-1947
1954 Yale-Army (partial)
Tribute to Harry Heilmann
Numerous interviews

On
reel to reel
1953 Braves vs Giants
1955 Colts vs Rams & Redskins (possibly
partials?)
1955 Colts vs 49ers 2nd half
4-14-56 Tigers vs Pirates with Mel Ott
1961 Tigers vs Yanks (partial)
Something called all-time Tigers aircheck from
9-21-69

The descriptions were pretty vague and the library hasn't listened
to them to give an accurate description. None of these itmes are available
anywhere that I am aware of.
