Got a programming question. What network did Love Story Dramas air on and
what was the day and timeslot?
Thanks,
Matt

Subject: Johnny Dollar Question
When the show moved to New York, Bob Readick took the role for a short time,
and then it went to Mandel Kramer.
The Readick Dollar was quite different than Bob Bailey'[removed] and Kramer's was
much more Bailey-like, and considering what few resources were being invested
in the show during Kramer's run, his performance was quite exceptional.
Does anyone know if Readick was the first choice to replace Bailey? Was he
asked to leave or have a contract expire? Was Kramer the first choice and
unavailable at the time, so the role went to Readick? Are there any other
background stories about the move of Dollar and Suspense to New York?
(Suspense did not survive the change unblemished, while Dollar did once
Kramer got the role).
Separately, does anyone know if Bob Bailey did any TV where we might be able
to catch a glimpse of him on TVLand or some other rerun channel?
Thanks!
Joe Webb

One thing I noticed - thanks to good friend and
tipper-offer Derek Tague - was the 100th Anniversary of Variety, and a
plethora of historical material on its web pages URL [removed]
I hope they took note of that wonderful Columbia Workshop musical, "Radio
Primer," which includes a very funny song about Variety magazine and its
unique
jargon. ("An independent station is an 'indy,' Chicago's either 'Chi' or it
is
'Windy'...)

Off hand, I wonder what Webb would have made about current TV shows like
The Shield (of which I'm also a fan), which features crooked police
officers as its protagonists? Hmmm, something to consider.
I have to wonder what he would've thought of shows like the "Law & Order"
franchise that so obviously borrow from him.

Subject: Rocky Jordan
In Digest 159, Jerry made mention of Rocky Jordan (albeit in a different
context) and it remined me of some earlier Digest discussion on this series.
I have been listening to Rocky on our deck these warm spring afternoons and
am quiet enjoying - it is the second or third time through for me on this
series.
I heard an episode this week that reminded me of a question I raised in the
digest in 2004 (Vol 2004 #352) about different versions of the same episode
- Delmonte sponsorship with complete orchestration vs no commercials and
only organ accompaniment.
Tom Van der Voort suggested (in #354) that these organ only epsidoes came
from the third incarnartion of Rocky Jordan "The third, about which there is
very little information, ran from 7/6/52 to 6/26/53. I suspect this is the
iteration with organ fill that again stared Jack Moyles. In any event, I
have thirteen of the organ music programs in my collection. They are all
AFRTS rebroadcasts. Several are repeats of earlier programs. I can say with
complete assurance that the scripts are roughly the same but that the
programs are remakes, not rebroadcasts."
Listening to one such organ music episode the other day, it ended with the
announcer saying that Rocky Jordan was a presentation of the AFRTS. Since
the "T" didn't enter the name of the service until 1954, these shows were
remade after the third run of Rocky ended. Very good remakes - generally
the same cast (Moyles/Novello).
If you haven't yet listened to the series, I would strongly recommend it.
