Subject: Obscure OTR show
I recently received an inquiry from a Californian researcher compiling data
on "Babe" Egan, a popular band leader of "The Hollywood Redheads" 1920-1940.
This researcher, Jeanie Gayle Pool, is seeking information on a network radio
show of the 1930s in which Babe was featured.
The program was called "The B Women" (or "For Ladies Only") and it was a
comedy about four women detectives. Pool has been unable to find any
confirmation of this.
Thanks for any assistance,
Jack French

RIP, Ben Kibler
I heard from Ben early last week that he had been diagnosed with a
fast-moving cancer and he had anywhere from 3 to 10 weeks left. The
end came sooner. A member of the family responded to an instant message
that he had passed away at 1am Saturday morning at his Michigan home.
Ben was very good and generous to me when I made my return to the hobby
after a long hiatus a little over 10 years ago. It was great to work with
him and I knew him as relentless when it came to tracking down log details.
Though I had collected since the 1970s and through the 1980s, I had a lot to
learn about how the hobby had changed by the time I had returned. He guided
me through all kinds of topics in the "new" hobby.
If any of you have files in your collection with a designation like "[bk]" or
something close to that, that file went through Ben and that designation meant
that he had listened to and verified that program. If you go on the hobby's
hubs, or find caches of shows among collectors, especially from the
mid-2000s, you can find thousands of recordings with this designation. I
learned a lot from him and it increased my enjoyment of my long-time hobby.
He helped me track down dates of hundreds of programs.
Over the years Ben's contribution to the hobby was doing original log
research and straightening out many of OTTER's problems through the years.
He also assisted in organizing the collections of newspaper radio listings
that are on the [removed] site.
Like many others, I will miss him greatly.
I received details about upcoming funeral services from Ben's family that
services will be held on Saturday, July 18th at 10:00am at the Pixley Funeral
Home, 322 W. University Drive, Rochester, MI 48307. That have requested that
donations be made to The American Cancer Society in lieu of sending flowers.
A memorial page has been created for him
