Did not know how many on this group caught that Al Goodman died today.
Former writer for Jack Benny

Well, I know that Al Gordon died last week, and his funeral was last
Friday. Is there also an Al Goodman or did you get the wrong
information from somewhere?

Subject: OTR TAPES YOURS FOR THE ASKING

Ed Corcoran, who co-hosted one of the earliest and most
respected Golden Age of Radio programs with, Dick Bertell, on WTIC
Hartford CT,passed away not too long ago.

It was Ed's private collection that made the program (which to
this day, can still be downloaded on the internet). Dorothy, so popular.

Ed's widow, is seeking an appreciative home for close to a
thousand reel to reel audio tapes that Ed had amassed over the years.

She is aware of the changes that have occured in the way otr is
collected today non-the-less she hopes to be able to find one or more
folks who are able to deal with open reels and who are ready to
discover the hidden treasures that made Ed Corcoran a true
pioneer collector. The price is right: If you can travel to
Connecticut. The reels are yours for the asking. If you are unable
to make it to Ct.
but would like to acquire a number of reels, as long as you are
willing to pay the shipigmg cost.

Subject: June Issue, RADIO RECALL

The full-color PDF version of RADIO RECALL was just emailed to all
subscribers who prefer this version; the B & W hard copy will be mailed to
the remainder of subscribers on or about June 10th.

This issue leads off with Part I of OTR historian Stewart Wright's detailed
article on the history of the CBS crime show, "Pursuit." Stewart includes new
details recently gleaned on his recent trip to Thousand Oaks Library in CA
about this excellent 1949-52 series.

John C. Abbott, author of the "Johnny Dollar" trilogy, has an article
entitled "Ham on Wry" which is about "The Magnificent Montague," the
delightful NBC comedy starring Monty Woolley. Diligent Digester Irene
Heinstein contributes an historical review of the first "radio guide
sections" that appeared in newspapers in the early 1920s.

The radio show that was later published as a short story which then became
the basis of a screen play that resulted in a classic movie on TV which now
is memorialized in a Cleveland museum is the subject of another fascinating
article. Hint: Jean Shepherd is at the bottom of all [removed] the story
revolves around a Red Ryder B-B gun for Christmas. Read all about it.

Our roving correspondent, Jim Snyder, tells us about two OTR venues in
Arizona, which will be of interest to those living nearby, those traveling
through the state, and/or assorted snow birds. Jim discusses a radio museum
in Scottsdale and the OTR club in Tucson.

Details on the next Newark OTR convention, CATON, are set forth by its
organizers: Sean Dougherty, Craig Wickman, and Steven M. Lewis. All this in
June [removed] Letters to the Editor, radio program testing in 1934,
how J. David Goldin trapped a Library of Congress former supervisor who stole
nearly 1,000 audio recording, plus assorted vintage ads, including one for
"Ned Jordan, Federal Ace" from 1942.

Subject: The Lone Ranger - An Observation

I was born in 1951 and thus missed most of the Golden Age. While I "think" I
have some recollection of hearing The Lone Ranger on radio, most of my
memories are from the TV series.

I hadn't listened to many Lone Ranger radio episodes though I have a fairly
large collection (mainly from Terry Salomonson's site) until the recent Radio
Spirits set "Iron Horse". Once the weather warmed up here in southern
Ontario, I hit my deck and listened to all 13 episodes of The Iron Spur
series. That so interested me, I went back to before the beginning of the
Legion of the Black Arrow story arc and listened to all episodes right
through to the start of the Iron Spur. I am now hooked on the Lone Ranger and
I am continuing my deck listening whenever the weather (and my schedule)
align.

What dawned on me as I was listening to these episodes is that I am as far
removed in time from when Striker wrote these episodes as Striker was from
the era he was portraying - about 70 years from me to Striker and 70 years
from Striker to the building of the railway.

If there are any Lone Ranger experts here, do you know if the Joan Barkley
character appears in any more episodes after the Iron Spur series?

Hi-Yo Silver, Awaaay.

Archie
