Subject: Martians land in upstate New York
With the 70th anniversary of the Mercury Theater on the Air
presentation of "War of the Worlds" there have been some commemorative
re-enactments. One of the best(we believe) will happen to the hour on
Thursday, October 30th at 8:00 PM. WSKG Public Broadcasting in
Binghamton will present its own production of the [removed] Wells / Howard
Koch "War of the Worlds".
There's been concern expressed here on the Digest and elsewhere about
some re-enactments turning campy, shifting the scene out of New Jersey
to the local area or just not getting it right. So let me assure
everyone: the WSKG production will be, first of all, _live_ radio,
including live music and sound effects, and true to the script. And as
much as possible we're going to use authentic equipment, including RCA
44DX microphones.
It will be heard on WSKG Public Radio ([removed] Binghamton / [removed] Ithaca /
[removed] Oneonta / [removed] Corning-Elmira / [removed] Hornell). We're not
streaming our programs on the web but will archive "WotW" on our
website [removed].
There will be some departures from the 1938 Orson Welles production. We
will perform before a studio audience -- including at least one person
who was listening in on 30 October 1938. And for those who want to see
how it's all done we're going to simulcast the radio performance on
WSKG-TV. The video will also be on the Web.

Subject: By the way, who is buried in Grant's tomb?
The answer is, of course, Mrs. Grant.
Wonder whether anyone answered it that way?
