Paula Keiser's 15-Oct-2010 commentary on "breaking the fourth wall"
during "Burns and Allen" (and "Ellery Queen") attracted my immediate
attention, since so very few people even know what the term "breaking
the fourth wall" MEANS.
For those who are curious, you can find further information on
Wikipedia; the relevant article (just for once!) is mercifully
brief:

Subject: Pepsi cola lyrics
Here are the words to the Pepsi commercial, as I remember them:
Pepsi Cola hits the spot.
12 full ounces, that's a lot.
Twice as much for a nickel, too
Nickel, nickel, nickel, nickel (fade away)
Did I leave out anything?

Subject: Jim Shean RIP
This week the FOTR Convention at Newark announced the final
scheduling of the re-creations following the awards banquet to be
held on Saturday evening, October 23rd. Among them is an episode from
"The Adventures of Superman" written by Jim Shean.
Although I'd interviewed Jim a few times years ago, chiefly about his
scripting "Bobby Benson and the B-Bar-B Riders", I hadn't had
contact with him in quite a while. I asked his friend (and Mutual's
first Bobby Benson) Ivan Cury to pass on to Jim the news of his
script being performed at Newark as I knew that would please Jim.
Sadly, Ivan had to tell me that Jim had died a few years ago.
I alerted ace OTR researcher, Irene Heinstein, who quickly determined
that although no obituaries were ever published regarding Jim's
death, he had passed away in Fullerton, CA on July 30, 2007 at the
age of 81. He was survived by two sons; his wife Janice had preceded
him in death in 2000.
I was able to locate one of Jim's sons, who told me that his father
had specifically requested cremation, a small, private family-only
service, and no obituary. So even though a few folks in the Los
Angeles area may have eventually learned of Jim's death, it
apparently was too late to merit a notice in SPERDVAC'S "Radiogram."
Therefore this posting may be the first announcement of Jim's passing
to most in the OTR community.
While Jim was the principle writer on the "Bobby Benson" series, he
was a prolific radio author and also wrote episodes of "Grand Central
Station", "Curtain Time", "Adventures of Superman", and "David
Harding, Counterspy" among others. After the Golden Age of Radio
ended, he moved from the NYC area to southern California. In
retirement he was in occasional contact with Don Knotts (who played
Windy Wales), Bob Novak (the show's director) and Ivan Cury. All four
of them attended a SPERDVAC convention. Now Ivan Cury is the only
member of that foursome who is still alive. (Clive Rice, the other
"Bobby Benson", is alive and well in Roanoke, VA.)

Subject: This week's FOTR Convention
Since no one else seems to have mentioned it, don't forget about this
week's Friends of Old-Radio Convention. I'll be there, hanging around the
coffee pot every morning, so stop by and say hello (might want to wait until
after my first cup, [removed] ;)
For those not able to attend, I'll try to get pics and stuff posted daily
to ther blog at [removed] , but we all know how tough it is
to get that done along with the other stuff going on the entire long weekend,
so don't be too upset if I don't get a lot posted until next week.
