Selznick certainly was a hands-on producer whose famous multi-page memos
drove his directors to distraction. Speilberg, on the other hand, IS a
director who sometimes take on producer--or more
often--executive producing responsibilities.
True enough, which leads into my original point (that I could've stated
more clearly): when producing ("Poltergeist", WB animation, HBO miniseries)
Steven S.'s input is rumored to often bleed back into the Director's

Subject: re: family theater, most under rated show?
I have just finally got caught up on my digest reading for the most part,
and lately, I have been thinking about the trends of media presentation, and
Family Theater in particular.
In about 7 digests, I only found one reference to this series.
Lest I get in to a rant about dramatic feedback, and what we are all doing
to each other, just want to shift focus a bit.
I found on a newsgroup about a couple-dozen Family Theaters. I had forgotten
about this series. As a kid I loved it.
Probably tended for a time to take on most of the values the program
espoused.
As I grew older, I discarded most of these values, in favor of a liberal
bent of mind.
Now, I find myself relistening to these shows, and missing their original
core values.
I'd like to know where I could find a complete archive of the series,
assuming it exists.
I have trolled the net, and come up with some interesting references to
Father Paten, who started the whole thing.
But, lest these shows, with their core values be lost through indifference,
I'd like to re-draw attention to this seemingly forgotten series.
And, yes I have done my own best to forget it, but it can't be that easily
dismissed.
I saw Phil Railback's post on the subject, and I'd like to re-echo his
request for logs, or any other info on this series.
Thanks for listening.
regards

Subject: Re: BBC Invasion recordings
The recording - as Michael Biel guessed - is on a double LP "The Second
World War", issued by the BBC, but it contains only
0'28" of the original 3'38" as preserved in the BBC archives.
There it is filed under "D-Day broadcasts (with English commentary)-b'cast
made by the BBC to occupied Europe on day of Allied invasion of France, at
[removed] ([removed]). version with English commentary superimposed, as heard
by home listeners".
That complete recording set is 53'26" long and encludes 16 sides with
[removed]é [removed] in various languages, Eisenhower, King Haakon VII
(Norw.), Dr Gerbrandy (NL), Hubert Pierlot (F),De Gaulle, Pierre Dupong
(Lux.), [removed] (Poland).
You won't, sorry to say, probably get a dub from the Beeb - except that you
have an extreme rare recording they are missing in their archive, in
exchange.
