Does such a studio exist today? How about the radio shows??
Dear Mr. Schmid,
The Museum of Radio and Television suggested I contact you. We are
currently producing a documentary for public television on Woody Guthrie
and I would be most appreciative for your help. We are hoping to find a
radio studio from the late 1930s and early 1940s in the United States, as
well as a recording studio from the mid-1940s where we might film some
sequences for our documentary. I am also looking for any radio broadcasts
1937-39, when Woody Guthrie was at KFVD. I am wondering whether you might
have any leads for how I might locate such a studio and possible
broadcasts, and whether they even exist!
In advance, thank you very much for your help, and I hope to hear from you.

Subject: Our Miss Brooks
Hi All,
Is there anyoone here on this list who was connected with the Radio
production of Our Miss Brooks?
A few friends of mine and I are putting together a fairly complete set of
OMB and could use some insight which does not seem to be available via the
internet.
Please contact me off list about this.
Thanks,
PAtrick

Subject: Jughead - I mean Hal Stone
Hal wrote:
Irene, if I'm not mistaken, you did get a copy of my book, right. If not, I
explained in it that the Original NBC Archie, Charlie Mullen, was drafted
following the end of WWII.
Thanks for the info, Hal. As you know I not only bought your book, but
read it and loved it. Your 'jaunty' style is excellent. However, I must
confess that I have not memorized the book, and decided to go straight to
the horse's mouth for an answer.
Being such a good and funny writer, I think you should consider a 'blog' -
everyone else is doing it.
However, you also wrote:
It's not the first time Dunning was wrong. I started playing "Jughead" on
NBC in 1944. I was 13, and I was 13 in 1944.
Hal, weren't you also 13 for part of 1945? If your birthday is Jan 1, I
apologize for bringing this up.
Finally, in today's newsletter, Derek Tague asked:
This might come off as a dumb question but here goes; Is this James Dobson
the same dude who runs the Focus on the Family radio ministry?
I also wondered when I heard his name. Do you know if it's the same James
Dobson?
I will not discuss the SF Giants but will emphasize that team loyalty is
very important to me and after almost 60 years of being a Giants fan I will
continue but I sure wish this season was over. I believe you deserted the
Dodgers? Is that correct? For some team named after a snake?
There I was a little kid, listening to Archie Andrews every Saturday
morning, never imagining that someday I would actually get to know Jughead,
and occasionally argue with him. <music, maestro> 'Fairy tales can come
true, it can happen to you, if you're young at heart'
Take care,
Irini

Subject: COTRA UPDATE
Hi all,
I thought you would be interested in hearing about this fledgling yet
dynamic organization. Devon Wilkins can be reached at:
theharness@[removed].
COTRA UPDATE
Welcome to the introductory issue of COTRA update!
Thanks to my recent contacts with people like Jon at
[removed]
, Bill Sparks and his staff at
[removed]
, and the warm and friendly folks who participate in Bill's old-time radio
chat each
week, a long-stifled dream of mine has been rekindled.
I was only a child of ten when what has come to be known as the golden age
of radio
ended, but I vividly recall feeling a profound sense of loss.
In the intervening years, I have discovered, much to my delight, that
episodes of
programs that originated in the
[removed]
and several other countries are still readily available.
Sadly, however, the same can't be said of shows that originated here in
Canada.
To deprive Canadians and others around the world of such quality programming
is,
in my view, a shameful abduction of a piece of Canadiana.
In an attempt to remedy that situation, I am announcing the establishment of
COTRA-the
Canadian Old-Time Radio Alliance.
We will lobby the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the
Academy of Canadian Radio
and Television Artists, the Musicians'
Union
, the National Hockey League, and the appropriate politicians to take the
necessary
steps to free up tapes that have been stored in vaults for years.
It may well be that many of those memorable moments have already been
destroyed,
but we must do what we can to salvage what remains before it, too, is lost
forever.
I realize that most of us don't have the monetary resources to put into an
advocacy
effort of this nature, but it has been proven time and again that there is
strength
in numbers.
I have already approached one well-known musician in an effort to garner his
moral
support.
If you, too, will lend your name to a cause that is near and dear to all our
hearts,
there's no telling what we might be able to accomplish.
For the most part, I will use only numbers to impress the individual,
organization,
or government body at whom I am targeting our advocacy.
But on occasion, such as when personal interviews are imminent, I will ask
you to
sign a letter or petition.
In turn, I will keep you up-to-date as to COTRA's progress.
So how about it?
Will you take out free membership in COTRA by telling me that I can depend
on your
support?
Will you pass this along to other old-time radio enthusiasts, and encourage
them
to join us?
COTRA looks forward to hearing from you.
Best regards, Devon Wilkins.
