He can be heard in the voice of everyone who believes in freedom.
He can be seen in the strong hands of the compassionate, who reach out

He lives in all those who believe in liberty, democracy, and adventure!

I don't know if this has been covered here or not, but someone on the
Antique Radio Forum brought up an interesting point. He found the scripts
and it appears that Mary's famous Chiss Sweese "flub" and the Drew Pearson
flub were scripted.

Subject: Baking tapes
Hello, everyone.
Been away because I switched from dialup to DSL and lost my old email address
and had trouble getting back onto the Digest.
Finally made it back. And, I read Ed Carr's request for how long to bake
tapes. The usual temperature is 120 to 130 degrees Farenheit. The time in
the baking oven depends on how bad the tape is -- but -- the usual time is
between 8 and 10 hours.
By the way, it seems that ONLY back coated tapes have this problem. The
biggest offenders are Ampex 406, Ampex 456 Grand Master, Scotch 808 and
Scotch 226 and sometimes Scotch 250, with Scotch 250 being notorious for
constant print through. Last of all, even Ampex cassette tapes with the same
numbers had that problem.
As an aside: An engineer friend of mine who worked at NBC TV in Burbank told
me that Ampex negotiated a possible contract with NBC to supply one inch
video tapes for the entire network. The tapes that NBC were to try out were
Ampex 406 and 456 Grand Master. If all went well it meant that Ampex would
have the biggest sales coup of the 70s. Tons of money coming in! NBC turned
the contract down when they found that some of the rolls of 1 inch tape were
shedding and sticking.
All of this is mute, of course, because tape is no longer the only method in
broadcasting video,
Glad to be back.
My best to all!
Ken Greenwald
