I've heard of the items you've mentioned, and have puzzled over them myself.
Jack was certainly doing the Master of Ceremonies "thing" at the time, and
he wasn't doing much with his MGM contract. So it's entirely possible that
he could have done these radio broadcasts.
However, it's always been a rather significant claim that Jack's "first
words on radio" were those spoken on his Ed Sullivan
appearance. Jack himself
makes no mention of any earlier radio appearances in "Sunday Nights
at Seven".
Jack also claimed well into the 1960s that his "debut on radio" was on the
Ed Sullivan program.
History sometimes rewrites itself due to poor memories or bad archiving. In
the early years on radio, Jack's radio anniversary is celebrated based on
1932 ([removed], 5/2/37 was announced as Jack's 5th anniversary in
radio). However,
the show of 5/5/40 is announced as Jack's 9th anniversary, and Jack's 10th
anniversary is celebrated by NBC in 1941. Something happened that made the
math go awry, and I wish I had a conclusive answer as to what it was.

This was performed last night here at FOTR. It was one of the best
things they have done in a long time. It was a pastiche of sorts with
the script being an original written by Edgar Farr Russell, who has
entered other scripts in the convention's script contest in the past
(and won). His was about the Wright Brothers, a 20th century phenomenon.
YOU ARE THERE never scripted any subject matter from the 20th century
according to Robert Lewis Shayon, who was the producer of the series for
CBS (and who was here at the convention this year also promoting his
2001 book "Odyssey in Prime Time" which I recommend.).
So far, this has been a good year for the re-creations here at the
convention as they have all been excellent. My hat off especially to
Steve Lewis and his Gotham Radio players who did Morton Wishengard's
"The Battle of the Warsaw Ghetto." Excellent!

Folks;
With the end of the Sunday morning informal panel, the 2004 Friends of
Old-Time Radio Convention is completed. I know I've been a little remiss in
posting updates either here or on the blog at [removed]
but I've been pretty busy over the last few days. And then there's that
pesky car [removed]
But I'll have some time later today to explain that, since I'm going to
be at the Holliday Inn for another unplanned day. I'm expecting to use that
time to get some pics of the convention up on the blog, so check
occasionally throughout the day (or use any RSS aggrigator to keep an eye
on it for you).
