Subject: Suspense's recycled scripts
According to Martin Grams' work "Suspense: Twenty Years of Thrills and
Chills," there were 31 times when Suspense used scripts from other
series (2 of those were repeated, so it's more accurately 30). This
excludes those done on Escape, of which there were many.
I have posted a spreadsheet of these with Suspense broadcast dates and titles
and those of the corresponding shows at
[removed]
Among the series represented were The Chase, The Clock, Creeps by Night,
Indictment, Inner Sanctum (2), Mysterious Traveler (6), On Stage (4), Philip
Morris Playhouse (4), Radio City Playhouse (4), Starring Boris Karloff, Tales
of Fatima, Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, and The Whistler (3).
In addition, there is a long-rumored connection to The Shadow "Nightmare at
Gaelsbury" and Suspense "The Kettler Method" -- there would be many
connections between the two series, but this is early in the Suspense run.
The connection might be writer Peter Barry, who wrote the Suspense play, but
also wrote on the Shadow. RadioGoldindex, however, lists Jerry Devine as the
author of the Shadow episode.
Fourteen of the original non-Suspense shows do not seem to exist. I know
Martin watches this
newsletter, so I would appreciate his letting me know if I have missed
anything, or if perhaps he has uncovered anynew links to Suspense's version
of "recycling."
