Subject: Fantasy OTR Visit

Mike K. asked about a fantasy visit to any OTR setting. Here's my current
wish list:

1.	Visiting my old (and very best) friend, Fibber McGee, and his lovely
wife, Molly (who I named my dog after (no offense, Molly, it is meant as an
honor!!)).
2.	Riding the range with Jayce Pearson of the Texas Rangers.
3.	Taking it on the chin (and hopefully ducking more successfully) with
my old pal, Johnny Dollar.
4.	Getting my hair (what there is of it) cut by Floyd Munson, while
saying hi to my old pal, Gildersleeve.
5.	Seeing the City of Angels darker side with my buddy Joe Friday.
6.	Having Ice Cream with my little pal, Charlie McCarthy.
7.	Taking Connie Brooks on a proper date (and putting Phillip Boynton
in his place, the poor ignorant soul).
8.	And finally (and maybe this applies more to the movies and TV show,
but it still fits, kinda), smacking around my "buddy" Bud Abbott so he will
leave my real buddy Lou Costello alone (and maybe seeing a mummy or
Frankenstein's monster or Mr. Hyde or (to tie it into OTR) Bela Lugosi in
the bargain).

That's all I can think of at this moment. I'm sure once I hit send, I'll
think of a dozen more.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

Subject: Re: Fantasy OTR Visit

Mike K brought up the idea of Fantasy OTR Visit.

A year ago I was taking a 3D-Foundations class as part of my work on a
degree in art (retirement is a wonderful thing) and I had an assignment
to build a mini-exhibition, portable, that would allow the viewer to
have some kind of experience. I decided to give them the opportunity to
experience Old Time Radio.

I built a small wooden case, styled after a steamer trunk, and placed
into it items related to radio, such as an actual transcription disc, a
78 RPM record, a copy of a Radio Stars magazine, a reel of paper-based
recording tape, a crystal radio, the book "Radio for Beginners"
published 1943 for the War Department, a package of ration stamps, a
reel of wire from a wire recorder, a box of radio tubes, a wax cylinder,
an old set of headphones, and Philco portable radio.

For my demonstration, and the required class critique, I played OTR from
my iPad that fit in the box next to the radio. However, if I was to
bring the project to completion (not a requirement for this assignment)
I would have an AM transmitter and an mp3 player streaming OTR from
behind a false panel in the box and tune in with the portable radio.

I have a photo of the project on my web site. Just scroll all the way
to the bottom and click on an image to enlarge it:

Evidently Meredith Granger recently passed away from a heart attack.

I am terribly saddened by this news. I can't even think to write.

That stupid Cincinnati OTR Convention made me care way too much about
   way too many people.
