Subject: Stan Freberg/When Radio Was Program
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from text/html
Does anyone know why Stan Freberg is being replaced by Chuck Schaden
on the syndicated program show"When Radio Was"?
I listen to Stan almost daily and Chuck on Satudays. I enjoy both. I
will miss Stan. I believe he just turned 80.(Chuck is 72) He has some
great CD sets available with all of his early material. His book,"It
only hurts when I laugh" is good reading, too.

Ron

Subject: Korla Pandit
I replied off list to Stuart Lubin's questions about Korla Pandit with a
link to the Korla Pandit website. The obituary posted there gave personal
information, real name, parents names, so my curiosity was piqued and given
his age I hoped to find his family in the 1930 census, the last one released
for public access, and the only one he'd be in since he was born in 1921.
I found the Redd family in the 1930 Census living in Hannibal, Missouri.
This is a summary:
Father: Ernest G. Redd, age 47 [died in LA in 1966]
Mother: Doshia Redd, age 42 [died in LA in 1977]
7 children: 3 girls, 4 boys ranging in age from 4 to 19. John Roland Redd
aka Korla Pandit was 8, second [removed]
Doshia Redd's mother was also living with the family.
The entire family was born in Missouri.
His father was a pastor.
Then the surprise -- race for all family members was given as Negro.
I then checked the 1920 census even though John Roland was not born yet to
confirm the classification.
On that census the race of the parents and 5 children was given as mulatto.
The subject of his race is discussed in full including genealogical studies.
Lots of interesting info.
This is the first history page on the web site.

I've seen radio logs in which there was a 15 minute show named "Carolina

Could that be the show you're looking for?
Also, someone sent me a CD of Carolina's record output from the 40s. Nice to
have these numbers back in circulation.

Well!

Perhaps they Crosby authors meant to say that Bob
appeared on Jack's show for about 3 years in the early 50s?
Perhaps. But let's keep in mind Wikipedia's inherent
faults. _Anyone_ can edit or change an entry. And I'd
be willing to bet that many people are relying on
other Internet-based information when writing a
Wikipedia entry. In my view, Wikipedia should never be
used as a primary source of information. Nor
secondary. It's fluidity makes it unreliable.
But since anyone can correct an entry, did you correct
the erroneous information about Jack Benny in the Bob
Crosby entry?

Help! I need some broadcast dates for a couple of eps of the :Boston
Blackie" series. The eps titles are "The Lee Chow Murder Case" and "The
Worthington Ghost". All that I've been able to discover is that both of
these
eps were broadcast in the 1940's. Does anyone know when these programs
were initially broadcast? If so, I'd appreciate the information.

Is it just me, or am I noticing more actors, announcers, directors, etc.
getting their just mention on the IMDb site? Being now a couple of
generations removed from radio's golden age, I think those in charge are
simply are not aware of how many movie/TV people got their start in radio.
Since the site does solicit input, seems perhaps some of our historians here
have been doing a bit of guerilla updating/education. True or not true?
