Subject: LIVE HORROR RADIO ON THE AIR AGAIN

Dear Friends,
LIVE HORROR RADIO ON THE AIR AGAIN!
Hopefully, many of you will be interested in a live horror radio show I
will be producing on Saturday 23 April at [removed] (GMT): which is about
10am EST (I think). It will be live on air and webcast as well as having
a studio audience. My collaborator, Mary Traynor, is a former BBC
producer and we have a professional live musician so the technical
standard will be high. The actors (including horror host) and sound
effects team have been enjoying intensive training too: and all of them
will even be in 1940s costume too. It will be broadcast via:
w [removed]
We have developed an old-style show called The Train of Terror and our
opening show will be a 30-minute all-new horror play called IN THE PIT
and is filled with blood, guts and irony. It aims to be pure radio as it
is set in a deep, dark coalmine. It is a brand new script in the OTR
style and owes a lot to Lights Out, Mysterious Traveler, ISM and The
Witch's Tale!
At a later date we will have a CD with recordings of the live event and
rehearsal, interviews, a short documentary and some photographs - I will
post information about that upon release.
I hope as many of you as possible can listen!
If any of you will be in South Wales and want to be in the studio
audience, places can be booked via: w [removed] Any feedback will
be welcome too.
Best wishes,
Dr Richard J. Hand,

Subject: "Empire of the Air"

Recent references to David Ossman's dramatic production of "Empire of the
Air" intrigue me. I am ashamed to say that this is something of which I have
not been aware. I have both the video and the original book, two special
parts of my personal archives, which now definitely should include the radio
version!

Can anyone tell me where and how I may obtain a copy and in what format(s)?

I am intrigued by the anniversary broadcast from Maj. Armstrong's tower in
Alpine NJ. Unfortunately, I no longer live in northern New Jersey but in
southern Virginia! Drat! What also intrigues me is the hearty cooperation
of the FCC in allowing the unique broadcasting situation for the anniversary.
Bravo to all concerned!

Bestus, Lee Munsick

Subject: Cincinnati report

I had a great time at Cincinnati this year. Highlights include:

1) Spending way too much in the dealers room. I brought home cassettes,
audio-CDs, MP3 CDs, videotapes, books, and comics.

2) I got cast in a recreation this year! I was the announcer during the
production of Our Miss Brooks. What a thrill to work with the professionals
and the very talented non-professionals. I felt a little out of my league up
there, but everyone was very nice and very helpful. They even tolerated my
singing, which should qualify them for sainthood. (that song is still in my
head - dream girl, dream [removed])

3) Seeing old friends and meeting new ones. There's too many to name all of
them, so lets just say it was great meeting/seeing all of you.

4) Cleaning up during the raffle. I hit on 11 out of 30 raffle tickets -
almost 37%. It was a little embarrassing being so lucky, but I did win some
great prizes.

4) The soap. The best part of the whole weekend happened as soon as I got
there. I'm sure many of you remember my "cast steel" question from a couple
of weeks ago. Well, as soon as I came through the door, Lennell
Herbert-Marshall presented me with my very own bar of Castile soap. What
fun! Thank you, Lennell!

A big thanks to everyone involved in the convention, from the organizers, to
the dealers, to the stars, to the attendees. I had a great time.

Dear Folks-

Following up on Arthur Anderson's visit the other day, I'll be on WOBM

All buzzing about our lecture/demo/mini-recreation, also featuring The Wife

From: "William Vest III" <tsukasasan@[removed];

This is probably a silly question but I'll ask anyway. I realize in the
40's that broadcasting was limited (as far as the news was concerned).
However, was there ever radio broadcasts from the war? More specifically
from the front lines?

George Hicks of NBC broadcast his account from London of the D-Day
invasion as witnessed from an American Naval flagship a few miles off
the coast of France. The sounds of aircraft and the bombardment can be
heard in the background. However this was not a live broadcast but a
wire recording Hicks made while aboard the ship.
On the morning of D-Day, Ed Haaker, also of NBC in London described his
flight over the invasion area with the 9th Air Force. Again, not a live
broadcast of the event.

There may have been some live broadcast from the front lines, I would
also be interested to know if there were.

Bill H.
